At the very instant Chen Yu sensed that overwhelming murderous intent, his expression changed dramatically. Especially when he met Ling’er’s eyes, his whole body began to tremble uncontrollably.

This—this couldn’t possibly be human!

“Who are you?!” Chen Yu gasped, his voice betraying his fear.

Though he sensed no aura whatsoever from Ling’er, everything about her was far too strange!

Suddenly, sparks began to drift through the air, one by one. Tiny flames flickered into existence before Chen Yu’s eyes.

Ling’er said nothing, simply standing there, her gaze fixed on him. That look alone was enough to make his scalp tingle with terror.

In the blink of an eye, Chen Yu darted away like a bullet!

He once again forced his martial arts, learned from Ye Wan’er, to their limit, boosting his inner energy to its peak. Yet the terror this girl stirred in him did not diminish in the slightest. He dared not linger and fled at once!

A martial artist at full strength could run faster than a car, so in just a few minutes he had escaped the bustling city district.

Yet Chen Yu was nothing if not cunning.

He always left himself a backup plan. At once, he made a phone call, his face twisted with malice.

“It’s all that bitch’s fault, making me use this favor early. But if you dare come after me—no matter who you are, tonight will be your grave!”

No one knew that among the three great families of Linhai, the Liu family had already formed a secret alliance with him.

And the Liu family’s foundation rested on a true master of inner strength!

Inside the hotel, Ling’er looked at Jiang Xiaotian, a little lost and helpless. She called his name, gently pushing him.

But Jiang Xiaotian showed no response—he was little more than a corpse now, only a faint breath left.

His internal organs were hemorrhaging; even if he were rushed to a hospital, it would be too late.

Sensing the thin thread of spiritual energy within him, Ling’er realized something and sighed.

“You really are a fool. Kind-hearted people will never become true powerhouses.”

Her words sounded like complaint, like she was sulking.

But when she remembered how Jiang Xiaotian had thrown himself into danger for her, Ling’er’s nose stung with emotion.

She carried him back into the room and laid him gently on the bed.

Then she bent down and kissed him.

The fading spark of Jiang Xiaotian’s life suddenly blossomed into vigor!

The Dragon’s Saliva, it was said, could knit flesh to bone and snatch life from the jaws of death!

His shattered limbs began to mend rapidly, and his ravaged organs healed under the surge of spiritual energy!

Ling’er watched him and suddenly smiled. She glanced out the window, gave a cold snort, and gradually faded into the shadows.

“Heh, I wonder what brings you to me so late at night?” A hunched old man drifted out from among the trees.

Chen Yu bowed in greeting. “Master Liu, forgive me for disturbing you, but I’ve run into a bit of danger and need your help.”

“Oh?” Liu Changsheng looked a little surprised.

He had already firmly established himself at the initial stage of inner strength, so he naturally knew Chen Yu’s true abilities.

“I would have thought that beneath the level of inner strength, no one could be your match. Did you offend a master?”

Chen Yu’s eyes flickered. “No, this person is very young, but her techniques are bizarre. She may not be very strong, since I couldn’t sense any aura from her, but it’s all so strange. Could she be a master of divine strength?”

The thought made him shiver with lingering fear.

But Liu Changsheng shook his head. “If you can’t sense any aura, there are only two possibilities. Either her strength is far beyond yours, or she’s truly weak. If she was so powerful, do you think you could have escaped?”

At this, Chen Yu’s mind cleared. He’d simply been frightened—how disgraceful!

“Enough, whoever she is, if she comes, we’ll capture her. If she’s a true master, I’ll handle her myself!” Liu Changsheng’s words brimmed with confidence.

In Linhai, no matter how powerful you were, you had to show the Liu family some respect!

Chen Yu was perhaps the most likely to step into the realm of inner strength in the shortest time, and Liu Changsheng was keen to befriend him, so he was happy to help.

Chen Yu was overjoyed, his greed growing. Ling’er was so unique—if he could fuse with her, it might bring him unimaginable benefits. He absolutely could not let such an opportunity slip away!

“To be honest, Master Liu, I want that girl. With her, tonight I could truly become an inner strength master!”

Liu Changsheng nodded his aged head. “Oh? In that case, she’s yours.”

“Thank you, Master Liu!” Chen Yu’s heart surged with excitement once again.

Liu Changsheng smiled but said nothing more.

He simply stood there in silence, yet no one would dare underestimate him.

No one knew how much time passed, when Liu Changsheng suddenly opened his eyes.

“Hmm?” He turned in confusion, noticing that the ever-rustling woods had abruptly fallen silent.

The quiet was absolute—a deathly silence, so still it was terrifying!

Then, bit by bit, sparks drifted in from who-knew-where.

Even Liu Changsheng, who had seen much in his life, could not help but frown.

Strange! Far too strange!

As the sparks in the air grew denser, they could clearly feel the temperature around them rising!

Chen Yu glanced at Liu Changsheng, who was just as wary of their surroundings.

Liu Changsheng continually surveyed the area, when suddenly he narrowed his eyes.

In the distance, a massive ball of fire was drifting toward them.

“Hmph! Playing tricks!” he scoffed, making no effort to conceal his power. His inner force surged outward, enveloping both himself and Chen Yu.

This was a true master! The power Chen Yu had hastily forced out was a mere fraction—at most a tenth—of Liu Changsheng’s level.

As the fire drew near, the two finally saw who was approaching.

It was still that delicate young girl, but now she seemed to have changed clothes, dressed in the lavish finery of an ancient imperial consort—regal, magnificent, as if favored by heaven itself!

“Miss Ling’er, you still have time to dress up at a moment like this? Should I say women are all scatterbrained, or that you’re simply foolish? You really dared to chase after us. Do you think I’m actually afraid of you?”

Liu Changsheng, however, remained silent. Indeed, he could sense no aura from this girl either—but it was all too unnatural!

Her eyes were like those of a legendary dragon; every time he met her gaze, he felt an inexplicable oppression.

“Young lady, I am Liu Changsheng of the Liu family. Would you not grant us some courtesy and withdraw?” Having lived so many years, Liu Changsheng knew when to change tactics.

Chen Yu grew anxious at this. “Master Liu! We can’t let her go!”

Liu Changsheng was about to reply when Ling’er spoke coldly, “What you did to that girl is none of my concern. If you wish to harm me, I will return the favor. But if you lay a hand on Jiang Xiaotian—you die.”

Step by step, she advanced, her very presence pressing down on them, making it hard to breathe.

Seeing Ling’er show him no respect, Liu Changsheng grew angry. “Hmph! Little girl, I don’t care who you are! In Linhai City, you’re the first to ignore me. I advise you, turn back now! I am protecting this man.”

Ling’er suddenly halted, finally turning her gaze to Liu Changsheng. She asked disdainfully, “Just you?”

“Yes, just me!” Liu Changsheng unleashed all his power, his aura billowing, whipping his clothes into a frenzy and bending the trees around them as if in a storm!

Ling’er smiled again.

Then, fire erupted from her body!

Two flames whirled above her head, slowly shaping into a pair of crimson-gold dragon horns, their heat so intense the air itself shimmered and warped.

As the fire faded from her arms, it revealed a patch of azure-blue dragon scales, strikingly vivid under the moonlight.

The great ball of fire behind her contracted rapidly, undulating behind her like an angry tail, scorching everything it touched to ashes!

Under the quivering, terrified stares of the two men, Ling’er fixed her gaze on Chen Yu.

It was as if a dragon’s roar shook the heavens, looking down on all beneath it!

“I want you dead!”
