Dragon Kingdom Arc: Chapter Five - The Battle of the Two Kings (Part I)
As the giant slowly drew his massive sword, the sound of the blade sliding from its scabbard was crisp and melodic, echoing like an ancient symphony.
With the sword’s extraction, a powerful aura surged from the giant, as if intent on tearing everything apart. The blade’s light intensified, seemingly illuminating the entire battlefield. Once fully unsheathed, the giant swung the weapon, the tip tracing a perfect arc through the air with boundless might as it descended toward the magic circle.
When the blade collided with the formation, the battlefield trembled. The immense impact felt as if it had frozen the surrounding air, leaving only the thunderous roar of the clash echoing across the field. Where the sword’s energy touched, everything was severed. The giant’s figure, framed by the sword’s aura, appeared even more towering and formidable—an unshakeable mountain, invincible.
The clash between the formation and the great sword was like lightning meeting a hurricane, sparking a heart-shaking explosion. Under the weight of this force, King Kai’s dominance proved overwhelming; everyone felt powerless, and the meticulously prepared formation collapsed in an instant.
As the formation crumbled, it was as if the sky had been ruthlessly torn open. A massive surge of energy, like a wild horse breaking free, swept outward, ferocious and capable of devouring everything in its path. Caught in the shockwave, the Martial Gods were tossed aside like autumn leaves in a gale, their bodies drifting and scattering in the chaotic air.
High above, a figure hung suspended in silence: King Kai. The divine sword in his grip still shimmered with cold light, but upon closer inspection, the radiance had lost its previous sharpness.
"You think you can trap me with mere tricks like these? Absolutely impossible!" He took a deep breath and resumed a combat stance. Though he appeared ready to continue, his face was pale as paper, sweat poured down like rain, and every breath seemed labored. His voice, once as thunderous as a storm, now sounded like fallen leaves in an autumn wind, carrying a trace of imperceptible fatigue and heaviness. He looked at his left hand and whispered, "Is this my limit?"
Lanya struggled to stand, a trickle of crimson blood spilling from the corner of her mouth like dew on a withered petal. Her gaze swept across the area; the once-majestic Martial Gods now lay scattered like broken sculptures. Lanya gritted her teeth, her fists clenched as if trying to concentrate all her fury and defiance. She let out a mournful, angry cry: "Damn it!" The sound was filled with despair and reluctance, and another mouthful of blood sprayed out, staining her clothes.
King Kai gazed at the ruined city, an indescribable emotion welling up within him. His previously indifferent gaze grew complex, as if the tragic scene had touched something deep inside. He drew a long breath, sheathed his sword, and turned to leave.
Yet, just as he turned, a fierce sword aura struck him from behind. By the time he sensed the danger, it was too late. The strike, swift as lightning, slammed into his back.
Finally, King Kai’s figure swayed in the sky, like a pawn toyed with by the hand of fate, and he plummeted from the heights. He looked up at the approaching figure: a female Martial God clad in golden armor, named Lisa. At this moment, the struggle within his heart was like an extinguished flame, with no hope of rekindling.
"Lisa, you came after all." His voice was weak and raspy, yet carried a sense of relief.
In Lisa’s eyes, loss and pain were intertwined like a torn night sky with dimming stars. A strange heat surged in her chest; her eyes grew bloodshot, and tears fell silently like broken pearls.
"Why did you do this? Why?" Her voice trembled, filled with confusion and rage.
King Kai smiled faintly, a smile bitter and self-deprecating. "Because I wanted to be king. To be the king of this world." His voice was firm and resolute, as if declaring his own destiny.
A flash of pity and disappointment crossed Lisa’s eyes. "You’ve changed. Completely changed. You are no longer the man I once loved." Her voice was heavy with endless sorrow.
King Kai laughed toward the sky, a sound filled with desolation and wild abandon. "Hahaha, yes, I have changed. I once longed for that innocent love, and for the days we fought side by side. But fate chose this path for me, and I can only walk it until the end."
Lisa: "Come back, King Kai. Your past honor and glory should not be forgotten. The Martial God Kingdom needs you. We need you to pull yourself together and use your strength to protect this land."

King Kai listened, a rebellious smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. He raised an eyebrow, seemingly unimpressed by Lisa's words. He said slowly: "Oh? Does the vast state machinery of the Martial God Kingdom need my help, or is it your heart—which has always been tethered to me—calling out? Lisa, you really are a clever and cunning woman."
His laughter echoed in the air, tinged with mockery and arrogance. Lisa frowned, anger surging in her chest: "What are you laughing at? Do you think the World Serpent you built can dominate the continent forever? Don't forget, no matter how powerful you are, you are ultimately bound by the rules and order of the Beast World. One day, their king will still consume you; it is only a matter of time."
"You are still as naive as before—that naivety is quite charming." King Kai vanished from Lisa’s sight.
Lisa shouted in anger: "So you were faking it!"
King Kai: "If I didn't feign weakness, how could I get you to let your guard down and draw you out?"
"Wind God: Void Cleaver!"
The sword aura drifted toward Lisa like silk. She stood motionless, as if dancing with the wind. In that instant, the dual blades in her hands erupted with brilliant white light, as if condensing the power of the stars. She closed her eyes slightly, sensing the surge of energy, and began to charge her weapons with power capable of shaking the heavens.
Just then, Lisa snapped her eyes open, flashing with resolve. "Heavenly God: Empress Impact!" she cried, her voice like celestial music piercing the battlefield.
At her call, the majestic phantom of a Heavenly Goddess manifested behind her, wielding dual blades. With a single strike, she blocked King Kai’s fierce 'Void Cleaver.' The clash of sword energy and intent was deafening, making the very air tremble.
King Kai was startled, cold sweat beading on his brow. He swallowed hard and channeled his power once more: "Wind God: Wind Erosion!" Suddenly, the entire battlefield was shrouded in wind, and countless wind blades whistled toward Lisa.
However, Lisa was undeterred. She raised her blades again, inhaling deeply to gather her strength. This time, she poured her entire being into the weapons. With a fierce swing, she released the energy, forming a dazzling beam of sword light.
The beam cut through the night like a meteor, colliding with King Kai’s wind blades. The collision produced a deafening roar as energy surged, clashed, and dissipated. Under the gaze of many, Lisa’s attack broke through, forcing King Kai to retreat repeatedly.
A look of admiration flashed in King Kai’s eyes. "Your Heavenly Dual Blades have not lost their edge with the passage of time. However, against my divine artifact, they are still slightly lacking."
Lisa smiled, her blades glinting coldly in the sun. "You are wrong, King Kai. My blades do not seek the ultimate in power, but the ultimate in speed. It was you who taught me how to become a qualified and powerful Martial God. But today, I am not just here to spar; I am here to wake you from this stubborn obsession."
She looked up at the sky, her voice filled with piety and resolve: "God, have you heard my call? I need your power. Please grant me the strength to save the one who matters most."
The words faded on the wind. Lisa’s arms spread wide like a phoenix unfolding its wings, as if to embrace the boundless firmament. Behind her, a brilliant radiance erupted like the rising sun, illuminating the world. A massive, six-winged angel silhouette became clear—a figure of breathtaking, elegant beauty.
The angel’s wings were as pure as the clouds, white and flawless, creating a holy breeze as they fluttered. Her eyes, like the brightest stars in the night sky, glowed with solemn sanctity. Her presence seemed to coat the space in a holy light, inspiring involuntary awe.
King Kai smirked playfully, his sword cutting through the air, driving a fierce aura directly at Lisa. Yet, she showed no fear; her eyes burned with determination as she met his attack head-on.
"Lisa, your power has ascended!" King Kai’s voice thundered, filled with deep admiration for his opponent. Lisa did not respond; her gaze was deep and resolute, as if she could swallow any obstacle. Her weapons shimmered in the moonlight, tracing graceful arcs through the air.

In the clash with King Kai, Lisa moved with ghostly agility, every strike precise and lethal. Suddenly, a smile played on her lips—a smile of confidence and composure.
"If I do not improve myself, would I not be failing this chaotic age?" Lisa whispered. The words were soft, yet they struck King Kai’s heart like a heavy hammer. Her left blade surged with power, forcing King Kai back several meters.
Lisa leaped, gripping her weapons with both hands and crossing them. In that moment, she seemed to merge with the heavens, releasing a heart-shaking force.
"Heavenly God: Empress Frontline!" With her command, a brilliant light erupted from her mysterious weapon—a meteor piercing the darkness, blinding and magnificent. Everything in its path, from solid rock to heavy armor, was reduced to nothingness by this peerless might.
Lisa swung her blades again, a sharp aura pointing directly at her opponent. King Kai, refusing to yield, fought like a god of the gale, unleashing his 'Wind God: Void Cleaver' technique. The resulting collision created a deafening explosion and a violent shockwave.
In the heat of the exchange, Lisa tucked away her left blade, flashed forward, and appeared before King Kai like a ghost. She threw a punch with all her might, striking his face. King Kai grunted, reeling, but immediately countered with a blow to her midsection. Lisa winced, but her reaction was lightning-fast; she grabbed his arm and twisted, breaking free of his hold.
However, King Kai’s power far exceeded human imagination. With a sudden backhand, his hand clamped onto her throat like an iron vise, hoisting her into the air with ease. Their eyes locked, as if crossing time and space, filled with complex, unspoken emotions. Yet, standing on the precipice of life and death, all words felt pale and powerless.
King Kai’s voice was low and cold, like a wind from the netherworld: "I am tired of this entanglement. Now, hand over Ye Heng."
Lisa’s eyes turned sharp as a blade. She gritted her teeth, meeting his gaze without a hint of fear: "And if I refuse?"
King Kai sneered, his expression cruel and ruthless: "Then do not blame me for being merciless." His voice pierced the heart like an icicle, chilling to the bone.
She straightened her spine and let out a heaven-shaking cry: "Then I shall give it my all!" The shout was like a tiger descending the mountain, earth-shattering. As her voice fell, a powerful Martial God force erupted from within her like a volcanic explosion, creating an invisible shockwave that warped the surrounding air.
Under the impact, King Kai was sent reeling, like a ship battered by giant waves, swaying in the storm. He was blown back hundreds of meters, his body tracing an arc through the air before crashing into the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.
King Kai struggled to stand, wiping the blood from his lips, his eyes still burning with an indomitable spirit. He turned toward Lisa, brandishing his weapon. A green-blue sword aura coalesced, striking out like lightning toward her.
Lisa’s eyes brightened. She stood her ground, chest out, meeting the strike. The aura hit her, producing a thunderous roar. Yet, to everyone’s shock, Lisa stood completely unharmed, as if the blade had merely brushed past her.
She looked at King Kai, a flash of complex emotion in her eyes. Memories flooded back like a tide, pulling her into deep reflection. She remembered the days they fought side by side, the life-and-death trials they had endured, and the happy times they had once shared...
