Volume One, Chapter 13: The Importance of Snake Eggs
At a moment when Meng Yuan was feeling deeply distressed, the system’s voice suddenly rang out.
“Congratulations, host, on successfully laying two snake eggs. According to system regulations, each hatchling grants 100 points. Additionally, points accumulate based on the hatchlings’ spiritual power levels. However, since your hatchlings have not yet hatched, their spiritual levels are currently unknown. Therefore, the system has credited 200 points to your account for now. You may check your balance in the system space.”
Life must go on despite sorrow. Meng Yuan opened the system space and indeed saw the points balance displayed as 200.
“You may enter the system store following the prompts,” the system advised.
A large arrow guided Meng Yuan through the operation, which was simple, requiring only two steps.
The system store was divided into sections: medicine, tools, snacks, and so forth.
Medicine was essential. Meng Yuan exchanged points for a box each of fever reducers, anti-inflammatory drugs, cold medicine, iodine solution, and band-aids.
As for the other sections, she glanced through each to familiarize herself with the offerings, ensuring that in times of danger she could quickly recall and redeem what she needed.
“Host, as this is your first childbirth, the system will gift you a complimentary postnatal body recovery function. Subsequent uses of this function will require point redemption,” the system informed.
The system had been shielding her from bodily pain, yet she still felt the lingering discomfort and exhaustion after giving birth. In an instant, however, her body lightened, and her spirit revived.
Indeed, having a system was a blessing.
Colonel Rested did not return immediately to the Federation but headed to the hospital instead.
Inside the incubator lay two silver-white snake eggs, motionless but emitting a faint breath of life.
The director stood respectfully beside him, responding, “Colonel, the hospital’s instruments cannot detect the spiritual power levels of these two eggs. I fear... their spiritual power levels may be formidable.”
Neither the Empire nor the entire galaxy had ever witnessed newborn hatchlings possessing high-level spiritual power. Could these hatchlings break this rule?
A faint hope glimmered on the director’s face. Should these two hatchlings display powerful spiritual power upon hatching, it would become a major promotional asset for the hospital, surpassing even the Royal Hospital to become the premier medical institution of the Hilna Empire.
“Return them to the manor in five days.”
“What?” The director was stunned and puzzled by the colonel’s words.
“Colonel, the Hilna First People’s Hospital is a property of the Wolzan family. Should these two eggs hatch with strong spiritual power, more noblewomen will likely choose our hospital for childbirth in the future, helping to win favor with many officials...”
“That’s enough. Don’t let me hear such talk again. If the family is dissatisfied with my current position, they are free to select other heirs for training,” the colonel interrupted sharply.
“Yes, sir.” The director’s expression darkened.
After the colonel left, the director made an encrypted call to the family—something Rested was unaware of.
At the Rebel Alliance headquarters, agents under Hekun’s orders successfully relayed the news back.
When the alliance leader learned his son had offspring, he was so excited he collapsed into his chair.
“My... my son has offspring, finally an heir.”
“Congratulations, leader. The family and alliance have successors,” officials around him offered their felicitations.
Leader Wenli rose, laughing heartily. “Ha ha ha, two children! My son is truly remarkable.”
Hearing there were two children, the officials exchanged glances.
“Leader, since the young master’s spiritual power is so strong, it’s rare for him to have offspring at all. One child alone would shock us; two—should we confirm whether the young master has been deceived?”
The leader showed utmost trust. “No need. Hekun personally verified it; there’s no mistake.”
“That’s wonderful. The alliance’s hope has appeared.”
“Please order someone to bring back the young master and his little heirs.”
“Well...” The leader frowned. “My grandsons are currently in the hands of a colonel in the Hilna Empire. Which brave warrior can lead troops to retrieve them?”
A strong bear beastman stood, volunteering, “I do, leader. I am willing.”
“I will go as well, leader.”
Soon crocodile and wolf beastmen also rose, eager to journey to the Hilna Empire.
To them, the Wenli family had always been the alliance’s leaders and a symbol of faith. Retrieving the Wenli heirs would be a supreme honor and beneficial to their own clans.
“But which colonel of the Hilna Empire?”
Someone spoke up, downplaying the colonel as just another officer—someone they could simply kill if met in combat—except for one.
Colonel Rested.
His record was well known. Taciturn and cold as ice, he fought only the strongest on the battlefield, advancing with lightning speed. Many alliance generals had been either killed by a single stroke or died from spiritual power overload at his hands.
He was like a demon risen from the underworld—those who met him were doomed and could swiftly write their wills.
“Colonel Res-ted,” someone whispered, their voices stiffening in place, as if trying to utter words freezing at minus thirty-six degrees.
“Leader, I have recent injuries and am unfit for long journeys,” Rested said, sitting down.
Soon, others began making excuses as well.
The leader, seeing their cowardice, felt troubled. Without any SSS+ level spiritual power experts among them, his son Hekun, though the alliance’s strongest, only possessed SSS level. If not for the red-list warrant in the Hilna Empire forbidding his killing, Hekun would have died multiple times.
“I, leader of the Rebel Alliance, cannot find a single talent to confront an enemy colonel? Wouldn’t that be a laughingstock?” The leader’s face reddened with anger.
“Speak! Today you must come up with a plan, or no one leaves.” With that, the leader settled firmly into his chair. Without his command, no one dared to stand.
After a long silence and as the leader’s expression darkened, a wolf beastman official suddenly stood.
“Leader, some time ago, our family rescued a bloodied wolf cub found in another galaxy. Because of kinship, we took him in and cared for him. However, this cub has grown fierce and disobedient, respecting no one except one.”
The leader’s interest piqued. “Oh? Whom does this wolf cub respect?”
He guessed it would be himself, the Rebel Alliance leader—who wouldn’t respect him? Just as he prepared for flattering words, an unexpected name surprised him.
“None other than young master Hekun.”
“I think his abilities are not lacking. Since he respects young master Hekun, why not send him to rescue Hekun’s children? He would surely obey such an order.”
