Fu Shiyue trapped her in front of him, lowering his head to stare at her flushed face. “You’re so unguarded around men, and you still dare to go to a bar?”

His eyes darkened, the light flickering in them as if something was stirring beneath the surface.

Lu Miao finally sensed that something was off about his aura. She placed her small hands against his chest and hurriedly pushed him away. “I—I’m going to sleep now. Please go out.”

Noticing the little girl’s resistance, Fu Shiyue let her go and stepped outside the door.

“Rest well. Don’t let your thoughts run wild.”

Lu Miao hid behind the door and said before closing it, “Although you’re my uncle’s friend, it’s not appropriate for a man and woman to stay together alone. You should leave tomorrow.”

After saying that, she quickly shut the door.

Fu Shiyue leaned against the windowsill, smoking a cigarette. The cold wind blew, easing the heat inside his body considerably.

Thinking about Lu Miao’s final words, he scoffed softly.

The little girl was young but thoughtful beyond her years.

Fu Shiyue didn’t take it too seriously. He stubbed out the cigarette, still feeling very uncomfortable below the waist. He took out his phone and called, “Send me a change of clothes.”

“Aren’t you at Lu Yan’s place? Why do you need to change clothes so late at night?”

“My clothes got dirty.”

His younger brother, ever so nosy, teased, “How’d your clothes get dirty? Damn, you didn’t happen to… you know, finish with the little lady, did you?”

Fu Shiyue’s face remained expressionless. “Do you want me to go to jail?”

The other chuckled. “Fifth brother, just a reminder—be careful. If you accidentally cross the line, Lu Yan won’t let you off.”

Fu Shiyue furrowed his brows. “Enough nonsense. Just send the clothes over.”

After hanging up, the heat surged up again. He glanced down, muttered a curse under his breath, and got up to go to the bathroom.

Lu Miao had slept late and was woken up by her phone ringing the next day. She reached under her pillow, answered with her eyes closed.

“Miao Miao, not up yet?”

Hearing Miss Xu’s voice, Lu Miao immediately opened her eyes and rubbed her hair, embarrassed. “I’m up now. I was just about to come find you.”

She had stood them up last night, and in their sister group chat, she jokingly said she would atone with her life. Miss Xu, being magnanimous, invited her for coffee, forgiving her.

Lu Miao wanted to hug Xu Jin and kiss her in gratitude, so she flooded the group chat with compliments: “Miss Xu is beautiful, kind-hearted, broad-minded, love you forever, muah~”

Xu Jin didn’t suspect Lu Miao was still in bed. “Alright, I just picked up Gege, now going to get you. Twenty minutes, downstairs at your place.”

Twenty minutes?!

Lu Miao sat straight up and saw her hair was a complete mess in the mirror. Tongue-tied, she stammered, “You… please drive slowly and be safe!”

She hung up hastily and rushed to the bathroom.

Opening her door, she noticed sunlight pouring into the living room, curtains fluttering.

The man was gone again.

The sofa was tidy, the chip bag she had eaten was cleared from the coffee table, and even the trash bin was emptied.

Do men who have been in the military all keep their homes this clean and orderly?

Lu Yan had his own cleanliness issues but never tidied up; he always called the cleaning lady.

Why was there such a difference when they all hung out together?

Lu Miao sighed, mature beyond her years.

She showered quickly, dried her hair, and came out wrapped in a towel.

Her phone vibrated. Thinking it was a message from Xu Jin, she opened it—it was an unknown number.

“Breakfast is on the table. Remember to eat before you leave.”

She glanced at the number’s location and almost thought it was a scam. If not for the message, she would have reported it immediately.

She couldn’t help replying, “Why is your number registered in Myanmar?”

“Forgot to change it.”

“So if you use this number to text me, could I be targeted by scammers?”

“…”

Lu Miao’s one sentence silenced the other side.

Soon, the number switched to a local one. “No, it won’t happen. Save this number.”

Tsk, such efficiency—was he always this quick?

Lu Miao caught the key point. “How did you get my number?”

Instant reply: “Your uncle gave it to me.”

“…”

She almost suspected Lu Yan had been kidnapped by this man—why did he have everything? Did she have any privacy left?

“Don’t go out tonight. Lock the door if you’re alone.”

Lu Miao raised an eyebrow in surprise, tentatively asked, “You’re not coming tonight?”

She rarely spoke so gently.

Fu Shiyue sat in the car, reading those words, already imagining how pleased she must be.

Now with no one watching her, she would run wild like a runaway horse.

The man warned seriously, “I’m going out of town for a couple of days. Stay home and behave. Call me if anything.”

Lu Miao scoffed. “Okay, got it.”

She tossed her phone aside, tidied herself up simply, and glanced at the dining table before leaving.

Hmm? How come everything there was her favorite?

Mustard greens dumplings, millet pumpkin porridge, Chen’s soy milk and fried dough sticks—nothing missing.

Lu Yan couldn’t have told him all this too, right?

Still basking in the freedom’s joy, Lu Miao grabbed her breakfast and happily went to meet her best friends.

Xu Jin’s car was parked in a conspicuous spot. Lu Miao got in and was greeted by a pleasant fragrance.

Wang Gege saw Lu Miao’s radiant smile. “What’s the good news? You’re so happy!”

“Nothing much. I’m just free now,” Lu Miao said, sipping soy milk.

Suddenly, Xu Jin asked, “Miao Miao, does your uncle treat you strictly?”

“He’s just bored with nothing to do all day.”

“So if he’s so free, doesn’t he have a girlfriend yet?”

Lu Miao was stunned. “Miss Xu, what are you getting at?”

“How would you feel if I became your aunt?”

“… I want to be your best friend, but you want to be my aunt.”

Lu Miao was speechless. “Miss Xu, have you ever heard the saying: the white dove in the church won’t kiss the crow?”

Xu Jin pondered. “You mean I’m not good enough for him?”

“No, he’s the crow.”

“How did he become the crow?”

“You don’t know. He’s rigid, old-fashioned, unfeeling, stubborn, obsessive-compulsive, and once he promises something, he absolutely follows through…”

Lu Miao went on and on about the man’s flaws, but didn’t mention any of his many virtues.

Xu Jin blinked. “Really? I find that pretty sexy.”

“… Really?”

Wang Gege added, “Miao Miao, maybe what you see as flaws are actually strengths to others?”

“Then tell me, what’s good about him?”

Xu Jin analyzed, “A man like that is stubborn but once he’s made up his mind, he won’t change. He must be very loyal to his wife.”

“Right, there aren’t many like that in the world. Anyone who becomes your aunt will be very lucky.”

Even Wang Gege agreed.

Was the man really that good?

Lu Miao raised an eyebrow, highly skeptical.

After coffee, Lu Miao took charge of lunch, then they all went to school together.

She didn’t want to attend the philosophy class, so she sneaked off to the bathroom.

Just rounding the corner, everything went black.

A figure suddenly lunged out, covering her mouth and dragging her into the restroom.
