Lu Guoxun had already taken a step out the door when he suddenly remembered something he had forgotten to say. He closed the door and returned to the room where Lu Miao was staying.

Just as he was about to knock, he saw Lu Miao open the door, her head turned as if she were speaking to someone inside. Upon seeing him, Lu Miao let out an irrepressible shriek and immediately moved to slam the door shut.

Lu Guoxun’s face darkened like coal. He quickly wedged his foot in the door and let out a thunderous roar, "Lu Miao! You get out here right now! I saw everything!"

Terrified, Lu Miao fought with all her might to hold the door closed. "Uncle, you saw wrong!"

"My eyes aren't failing me! Who is that man in your room? If you don't tell me right now, you can just die here today!"

Though she was panicking inside, she feigned composure on the surface. "A man? What man? There’s no man in my room!"

"Don't try to fool me! Open this door!"

Lu Guoxun was strong, and Lu Miao was barely able to hold him back, sweat beading on the tip of her nose from anxiety.

Suddenly, a figure loomed over her, the heat from his chest pressing against her back. Lu Miao trembled and turned to glare at the man who had approached her with such nonchalance. "What are you doing? Leave, quickly!"

The man looked perfectly calm. "Leave? To where?"

"You! The window! You have to climb out the window!"

"We're on the 20th floor. You want me to jump?"

"..."

*He was in the military, wasn't he? Surely, with his agility, climbing to the next room wouldn't be a problem?*

The man suddenly grabbed the hand she was using to hold the door. She shuddered. "What do you want?"

"If you can't hide, then don't." He leaned down, whispering into her ear, "If your uncle wants to see me, then let him see me."

Lu Guoxun was still fuming. "Get out here, you bastard, or I’ll kill him!"

The door suddenly swung wide open, and a cold, questioning voice cut through the air: "Who are you going to kill?"

Lu Guoxun was instantly enveloped by an oppressive aura. He looked up and saw the man standing in front of Lu Miao, his face full of shock. "Shiyue? Why is it you?!"

...

In the living room, Lu Miao sat on the sofa, head bowed, acting as obedient as could be. Lu Guoxun had finished three cups of cooling tea, yet he still couldn't digest this massive piece of information.

Suppressing his temper, he pointed a trembling finger at Fu Shiyue. "So, did Lu Yan call you here to keep an eye on her?"

Lu Miao nodded.

"Was it you who took her from school that day, too?"

Lu Miao hesitated for a moment, then, as if facing death, gave a firm nod.

*So that’s it,* he thought. *They had teamed up to lie to him back then!*

"No wonder Qingcheng said you were involved with an older man. You kept denying it, but I never expected it to be him..."

Lu Guoxun looked at the composed and stern-faced Fu Shiyue. His eyes twitched, and his anger suddenly vanished.

After all, this was no ordinary person. This was the eldest grandson of the Fu family, groomed by the old man himself since childhood. He had spent ten years guarding the borders with great distinction and was set to take over the Fu Group as the next leader. His status, reputation, and upbringing were so impeccable that one couldn't find a single fault.

In truth, it was a step up for their family. Though there was a significant age gap, older men knew how to cherish their women. Lu Guoxun hadn't lost his wits entirely; his mind began to calculate.

Yet, Lu Miao remained immersed in the terror of being caught. She was scared to death and desperately tried to argue, "We are innocent! Nothing happened!"

Lu Guoxun looked at her with disbelief. "You spent the night in the same room and you're telling me nothing happened? What about the marks on his neck? You've practically chewed it into a map of the world!"

He pointed at Fu Shiyue’s neck, unable to bear looking.

Lu Miao awkwardly muttered, "Uh, Uncle, let me explain..."

"Don't explain! I saw it with my own eyes. Any further explanation is just a lie!"

"..." Lu Miao was speechless. This old-fashioned man was truly stubborn. No matter what she said, he refused to believe her.

Lu Guoxun turned to Fu Shiyue, putting on his stern elder persona. "Shiyue, I'm asking you—what exactly is going on between you and my Miao? You sleep together, but you won't admit to a relationship. Are you just playing around and refusing to take responsibility?"

"..."

Fu Shiyue glanced at Lu Guoxun. He knew Lu Guoxun was forcing him to make a commitment. His eyes deepened as he looked at Lu Miao, his Adam’s apple bobbing. "I..."

Lu Miao immediately cut him off. "He likes someone else! I was the one who confessed to him, and he refused, so I used forceful means to keep him here. I didn't expect him to push me away. He was about to storm out, but Uncle, you blocked him in the room, so he had no choice but to endure it and share the room with me. Come to think of it, you helped me, Uncle! Hahahaha!"

She let out an awkward laugh after finishing. The living room fell into an eerie silence, both men looking quite displeased.

She lowered her head, face flushed, missing the flash of emotion in Fu Shiyue’s eyes.

*He likes someone else?*

Lu Guoxun frowned and instinctively looked at Fu Shiyue, who was staring at Lu Miao.

That look was clearly... like a wolf lying in wait in the jungle, wanting to attack, yet afraid of scaring the prey.

Lu Miao remained completely unaware of this.

But as a man, Lu Guoxun understood. He kept a straight face. "Fine. Since neither of you wants to admit it, and it's improper for a man and woman to live together like this, let's go! You're coming home with me!"

He grabbed Lu Miao to drag her away, but she panicked and clung to the sofa. "I'm not going back!"

Lu Guoxun shot a glance at Fu Shiyue and roared at Lu Miao, "You still want to stay here and embarrass yourself? The man doesn't even want you, and you're still throwing yourself at him? You’ve disgraced the entire Lu family!"

Lu Guoxun said the harshest things he could think of, knowing his words weren't meant just for Lu Miao.

Lu Miao’s eyes turned red. "I don't need you to care!"

"Say that again! At your age, bringing a man home to spend the night—you've ruined your reputation! If this gets out, how will you ever marry? It’s my fault for not raising you properly, letting you be so shameless. Just watch how I teach you a lesson..."

As he spoke, he raised his hand to strike her.

Suddenly, Lu Miao’s wrist was caught, and a force pulled her back. She collided with Fu Shiyue’s hard chest. Unsteady on her feet, an arm quickly wrapped around her waist, pulling her into his broad embrace.

Fu Shiyue’s Adam’s apple moved, and a low, deep voice spilled out. "I will take responsibility for her."

Lu Miao’s ears buzzed. She looked up in shock, just in time to catch the man’s firm, resolute jawline. Higher up, his dark eyes were steady and determined.

Lu Guoxun’s gaze flickered, and he lowered his hand. "Oh? And how do you intend to take responsibility?"

"In two years, I will marry her."

Upon hearing this, Lu Guoxun’s brow immediately relaxed. He knew what kind of family Fu Shiyue came from; his word was worth more than gold!

Lu Guoxun set aside his stern demeanor and gave a cold snort. "Didn't you say you liked someone else?"

"I do have someone I like, but I have never dared to tell her."

Fu Shiyue lowered his head, brushing the messy hair from Lu Miao’s face, his dark eyes fixed silently on hers.

"The person in my heart is the one right in front of me."

Lu Miao was completely stunned.

Locked in his arms, she couldn't break free by even a fraction. Her soft body was pressed tightly against his solid frame, his heat radiating and threatening to melt her. She heard the powerful, steady beat of his heart from within his chest, hammering so violently that it made her own ribcage throb.
