On seeing Xu Jin and Wang Gege clutching each other in fright, Lu Miao grew curious about what precious gift could have stirred them so deeply.

Kneeling on the meditation cushion, she reached into the gift box and felt something cold and smooth. Holding it, it was heavy in her hand. When she pulled it out, her pupils constricted sharply.

It was a pair of cold, silver handcuffs.

Lu Miao was stunned for a moment, then forced a stiff smile to ease the tension. "Don’t be scared, my uncle is just joking with you. He must have sent the wrong gift..."

“No mistake. You have a pair too,” interrupted Fu Shiyue, his tone unusually deep and cold, unlike his usual gentle voice.

Lu Miao turned sharply, her face darkening. “What do you mean? Are you treating us like criminals?”

The man’s words were cold and precise. “Fighting and brawling, detention over ten days, classified as school bullying or worse.”

Xu Jin and Wang Gege trembled, huddling together.

Lu Miao was shocked. “You really want to arrest us?”

He replied coldly, “Shouldn’t criminals be arrested?”

She was stunned for a second before—*click*—both her hands were cuffed.

Fu Shiyue’s movements were so swift she didn’t even react in time. He pulled her hands in front of her firmly, his handsome face inches away, his warm breath brushing her lips as he spoke slowly and coldly: “Those who break the law should be arrested immediately.”

Lu Miao’s eyes widened in disbelief. The man who had just tenderly wiped her mouth and helped her eat moments ago had suddenly turned so harsh.

A surge of frustration welled in her chest. She pushed him away in anger, defending herself loudly, “You say I broke the law? Wang Mingcheng held a knife to my neck, tried to strip me and rape me. I just taught him a lesson! I didn’t even stab that brat with the utility knife—didn’t kill him out of mercy! Let me go!”

She almost had her throat strangled and hadn’t told him to avoid worrying him. What was wrong with standing up for herself? Why would he want to arrest her? Had he lost his mind?

But the man showed no mercy. Watching her struggle, he didn’t loosen the cuffs. His voice was icy: “If you stabbed him, I’d have to lock you up on public funds for at least three years due to the severity.”

Lu Miao was furious, standing up and raging, “It’s no time for you to lecture me on criminal law! You’re so stubborn and old-fashioned, your head must be stuffed full of laws and parts! You were the one who smashed Wang Mingcheng’s head yourself, right? If you’re so righteous, why don’t you arrest yourself?”

Wang Gege was sweating nervously at Lu Miao’s fierce outburst. How dare she point her finger and scold Fu Shiyue like that?

“I can make him shut up, can you?” Fu Shiyue pulled her toward him, his stern brows shadowed as he pressed in. “If you can keep him from causing trouble later, suit yourself.”

Back then, when the young girl was deceived and mistreated, crying and unwilling to return with him, could he just stand by and watch such a thing happen under his nose?

Whether out of morality or protectiveness, Wang Mingcheng was not going to walk out that door unharmed. If a fight was to happen, it must be settled once and for all.

But a young girl causing trouble outside? What kind of nonsense was that?

What if she got hurt?

---

Lu Miao couldn’t fathom the man’s thoughts; tears welled in her eyes from anger. Being forced back, her voice quivered with grievance, “I thought you invited us to dinner to soothe my frightened feelings and thank my friends who stood up for me. I didn’t expect you to set this trap and wait for us to fall into it!”

As she struggled, the handcuffs suddenly loosened and fell from her wrists.

Without overthinking, Lu Miao grabbed the stinging handcuffs and headed to the window, about to toss them out.

Her assistant hurriedly stopped her, “Miss Lu, be careful! Those are made of platinum!”

“...What?”

Lu Miao nearly let go but quickly retracted, stiff by the window. “Did you say... these handcuffs are platinum?”

“Yes! Mr. Fu specially instructed me to expedite the order. Since this is the first gift, he didn’t want to shortchange you and your two friends!”

Lu Miao trembled, incredulously confirming, “They’re not actually meant to restrain me?”

The young girl was clearly frightened by Fu Shiyue’s earlier demeanor.

The assistant chuckled, “Miss Lu, Mr. Fu was just teasing you!”

He glanced at Fu Shiyue’s face, seeing that Fu Shiyue leisurely lifted his teacup, showing no intention to intervene.

“So, Mr. Fu wanted to tell you that violence can’t solve problems. This is just a way to vent emotions. But revenge may feel good at the moment, the aftermath is hell! You never considered the consequences or seriousness of the situation. If it weren’t for Mr. Fu stepping in, this wouldn’t have been resolved so quickly.”

Lu Miao pressed her lips together, saying nothing, a complex mix of feelings swirling within.

Xu Jin and Wang Gege, though shaken, silently lowered their heads.

Wang Gege stood and went to the window to coax Lu Miao back. “Miao Miao, your uncle is an elder. He thinks things through more carefully than we do. We were reckless.”

She quickly pocketed the platinum handcuffs from Lu Miao’s hand.

She sighed in relief, held them close, wiping them while eyeing them and flattering, “Besides, he balances rewards and punishments well, very methodical.”

Those were valuable—losing them would be a huge loss.

Lu Miao glared. “You switch sides just for this?”

She had been ready to fight Fu Shiyue for them only moments ago!

She thought Xu Jin wasn’t the type to be blinded by money.

Yet, Xu Jin sat elegantly across from Fu Shiyue, smiling as she picked up the gift box and feigned shyness, “Thank you for the gift, uncle. It’s very special, made a deep impression, and I’ve gained a lot.”

“...” Traitor!

Both girls suddenly understood. Lu Miao couldn’t bring herself to face this, and Wang Gege forcibly pulled her over. “Alright, Miao Miao, now that it’s all explained, your uncle was joking with us. Don’t be petty or take it to heart.”

“Yes, Miao Miao, if I had such a good boyfriend... Uncle, I would laugh in my sleep.”

Xu Jin pushed Lu Miao gently toward Fu Shiyue.

Lu Miao: ...

Fu Shiyue’s palm briefly circled Lu Miao’s waist to steady her, bringing her closer with a polite but distant smile. “Finished eating?”

“Mm!” The two girls nodded. “Thank you, uncle, for your hospitality.”

“I’ll see you home.” Fu Shiyue escorted Lu Miao out of the private room, intimate but not overstepping.

The assistant took Xu Jin and Wang Gege home, while Lu Miao got into the front passenger seat.

The car’s interior was dimly lit. Fu Shiyue started the engine but didn’t move, fingers tapping the steering wheel, seemingly waiting for the young girl beside him to speak first.

Lu Miao sat still, arms crossed, staring out the window. She spoke plainly, “I don’t like your style of hitting me once and then giving me a treat.”

The girl was straightforward, unable to hide her feelings, her brows slightly furrowed, clearly still upset about what happened.

Fu Shiyue leaned over to fasten her seatbelt, his voice low and earnest. “You’re impulsive and can’t be provoked. Strict lectures won’t work on you.”

“You just think I won’t listen?” she shot back, voice rising. “If you’re right, of course I’d listen.”

“I told you not to wear revealing clothes outside. Did you listen?”

She talked back, calling him old-fashioned, annoyed and refusing to let him touch her.

In the end, Fu Shiyue sent her an entire wardrobe of clothes, and feeling guilty, she reluctantly complied.

“But you really scared me just now. I almost cried because of you...”

Lu Miao bit her rosy lips tightly.

“Lu Miao, I don’t know how to teach. You’re the first.” Fu Shiyue fastened her seatbelt properly, not leaving her personal space, then reached out to gently stroke her head.

“You are my responsibility, one I cannot shirk. I can’t let anything happen to you under my watch.”
