Volume 1, Chapter 27: The One I Like Is Still Zhou Yang

At that moment, Xie Yong collapsed completely.
Faced with so much evidence, he had no way to defend himself.
He had never imagined that the scheme he had painstakingly orchestrated would end up like this because of the uncontrollable variable known as Zhou Yang.
“Plaintiff, is there anything else you wish to state?” the judge asked.
Xie Yong’s lips moved, but not a single word came out.
The judge struck the gavel several times and said, “Mr. Xie Yong, in light of all the testimony and evidence presented in this case, the court hereby terminates your accusation against Ms. Tang Yumei. Furthermore, you secretly photographed others, violated their privacy, and used your authority within the company to coerce subordinates into committing crimes. You have therefore committed a criminal offense. The court will initiate public prosecution against you at a later date. Please watch for your summons!”
“This matter is adjourned. Court is dismissed!”
The judge brought the gavel down with a sharp crack. To Xie Yong, the sound was no different from the tolling of a death bell.
Given the situation, he had gone from plaintiff to defendant, and there was even a chance he would end up with nothing and behind bars.
Even his son, Xie Feng, no longer supported him.
“Dad, you really are... Sigh!”
Xie Feng let out a heavy sigh, shot Zhou Yang a resentful look, and stormed away.
He decided to find several women that night and vent his frustrations. Otherwise, he feared the anger bottled up inside him would have nowhere to go.
Afterward, the Tang family blocked Xie Yong at the courthouse entrance and hurled abuse at him.
Xie Yong had been born into poverty. If Old Master Tang had not taken a liking to him and insisted on bringing him into the family as his son-in-law, he would never have achieved what he had today.
Yet now he had kept a mistress outside the marriage and persecuted Tang Yumei. As far as the Tang family was concerned, a scoundrel like him deserved to be torn apart alive.
Tang Yumei calmly pulled her family away. She said only one thing to Xie Yong:
“Xie Yong, I will not hate you for what you have done to me. But please stop making trouble. Let us part amicably. Take whatever belongs to you. From now on, we each go our separate ways. May we never meet again.”
“Yumei!”
At that moment, Xie Yong felt as though the entire edifice of his faith had collapsed. He sat outside the courthouse and wept bitterly.
The meaning behind Tang Yumei’s words was perfectly clear.
I am willing to settle things with you. I will give you what you deserve, but I hope you will stop scheming. Let us divorce peacefully.
It was not that Xie Yong had never loved Tang Yumei. Rather, her status had always been too lofty, and he had never been able to hold his head up before her.
On top of that, Tang Yumei had required him to undergo in-vitro fertilization and had been sexually indifferent toward him. This had left him deeply insecure, both physically and emotionally. With his mistress, he could once again find the pride of being a man.
That was why he had gradually distanced himself from Tang Yumei.
But now it seemed that, deep down, Tang Yumei was still the woman he loved most.
Unfortunately, things had reached the point of no return. He finally realized that he had been nothing more than a foolish clown who loved to stir up trouble.
When they returned to the villa, Tang Yumei was extremely grateful for everything Zhou Yang had done for her and said that she would give him a gift in return.
Zhou Yang, however, was worried that Xie Yong might cause trouble again.

Tang Yumei said that if Xie Yong dared to make trouble again, he would not receive a single penny.
Given how highly Xie Yong valued money, reaching a settlement with Tang Yumei was already the best possible outcome. He would never risk everything again.
Besides, apart from his regular job, he had secretly established a company of his own, which was being managed by his mistress.
If Tang Yumei truly decided to pursue the matter, that company would also be considered marital property. Xie Yong might then lose every last thing he owned.
As for Xie Feng, the blow had been a heavy one.
He had failed to deal with Zhou Yang and had instead driven an even deeper wedge between himself and his mother.
He was probably out somewhere indulging in wine and women.
Tang Yumei had always understood this disappointing son of hers very well.
Sure enough, that night at a private club, Xie Feng had called several friends together and was having the time of his life with a few alluring women in a private room.
He drank heavily and shouted loudly, venting all the anger in his heart.
He even had a friend bring him some imported blue pills. After taking one, he entered a private room with a woman on each arm.
When Xie Feng returned home the next day, his legs were weak.
It was Saturday, and Lu Wei had not gone to work. The two of them were already living together.
Sitting on the sofa, she looked at Xie Feng, who had been drained by alcohol and women, with deep disdain and fury in her eyes.
“Where did you go last night?” Lu Wei asked coldly.
“I was playing cards with some friends,” Xie Feng defended himself.
“If you were playing cards, why was your phone switched off?” Lu Wei asked coldly.
“My battery died!” Xie Feng said. “Come on, Wei, don’t start on this now. I’m already upset enough.”
“You’re upset? All you ever do is enjoy yourself. The moment anything goes wrong, you complain about how upset you are, then do all kinds of things and expect me to forgive you!” Lu Wei snapped. “Am I your emotional caretaker?”
“My parents got divorced!” Xie Feng said. “So I was in a terrible mood. I had a few extra drinks with my friends last night. Do you have to complain about that too?”
Lu Wei knew about his parents’ court hearing and had expected this outcome. Her tone remained flat.
“Your father and mother have no feelings for each other at all. Whether they divorce or not is nothing more than a matter of signing an agreement.”
“Wei, how can you say that?” Xie Feng was already irritated, and the contempt in her words toward his parents infuriated him further. “Our family is in this state because of that Zhou Yang. I’m not going to let him off!”
Lu Wei frowned deeply.
“Don’t change the subject to Zhou Yang. First, tell me clearly—who were you playing cards with last night?”
As she spoke, Lu Wei held out her phone. On the screen were photographs of Xie Feng with his arms around women on both sides.
Among Xie Feng’s debauched friends, one had ulterior motives and had long harbored improper intentions toward Lu Wei.
Thus, when Xie Feng had slept with other women the previous night, that friend had secretly photographed him and sent the pictures to Lu Wei in an attempt to destroy their relationship.
In truth, he had not needed to go to such lengths. During her time with Xie Feng, Lu Wei had already begun to regret her decision.
Apart from helping her find a job, Xie Feng seemed to possess no other real abilities.

He claimed to be running a company, but in reality, he lost money every day.
The house he currently lived in was also registered under his parents’ names. He owned almost no property himself and was instead buried under a mountain of credit-card debt.
It was at times like this that people often remembered the virtues of their first love.
Lu Wei frequently compared Xie Feng with Zhou Yang in her mind. The more she compared them, the more she felt that Xie Feng fell far short of Zhou Yang.
Apart from his family background, Zhou Yang surpassed him in every other respect.
As a result, Lu Wei’s feelings for Xie Feng grew increasingly cold.
When she saw the photographs of him fooling around with other women the previous night, she had not felt even the slightest trace of jealousy. Instead, she had slept soundly.
Her icy interrogation that morning was merely an attempt to defend her status and dignity as his girlfriend.
Xie Feng stared at the photographs on Lu Wei’s phone. For a moment, he was utterly unable to defend himself. He cursed bitterly, “That bastard set me up!”
“Xie Feng, if you hadn’t been fooling around, how could anyone have set you up?” Lu Wei demanded.
“Wei, listen to me. I was in a terrible mood yesterday because of my parents’ divorce. I drank too much, and I wasn’t thinking clearly...”
“What is there to explain about doing something like that?” Lu Wei said coldly. “If I cheated on you, would you be willing to listen to my explanation?”
Xie Feng frowned at her.
“Wei, what are you talking about? What do you mean, cheat on me? I was only having a little fun. It’s not as though I took those women seriously!”
That sentence enraged Lu Wei completely.
“Xie Feng, listen to yourself. Do you even sound human?”
She felt that dating such a spoiled playboy was nothing but a waste of her emotions.
Xie Feng had hardly slept the night before, and his temper was extremely volatile. After being repeatedly scolded by Lu Wei, his anger rose rapidly.
“Lu Wei, let me make one thing clear: you’d better watch yourself around me!” Xie Feng said. “I was the one who arranged your job. Who pays for your daily expenses? I do!”
He picked up the Louis Vuitton bag from the table and hurled it onto the floor.
“I bought all of this for you. What right do you have to question me? So what if I go out and sleep with other women? I spend so much money supporting you...”
“Xie Feng, you bastard!”
Tears flooded Lu Wei’s eyes as she stared at the bag lying on the floor.
Already furious, Xie Feng shouted, “I’m a bastard? Then what are you? You’re a filthy whore! You spend my money and still expect me to listen to you. Who do you think you are?”
“Lu Wei, I’m telling you right now—I like sleeping with women. From now on, you have no right to interfere when I see other women!”
Lu Wei was a woman of fierce character. Hearing him say this, she merely gave a cold laugh.
“Xie Feng, you think you’re impressive because you stole Zhou Yang’s girlfriend, don’t you?” Lu Wei said. “Then let me tell you the truth: Zhou Yang is still the man I love!”
“What did you say?”
Xie Feng froze in an instant.
