Volume 1, Chapter 31: The Savior of the Underworld Boss
Zhou Yang was urgently summoned to the operating room, where he quickly scrubbed in and donned surgical scrubs. He was then led to the operating table.
"Mr. Zhou, the blade is lodged in a delicate spot, and the bleeding simply won't stop. If there's no other way, please, use your methods!" Wei Changqing pleaded.
"Very well," Zhou Yang replied. "I will provide the instructions, and you will perform the procedure."
Zhou Yang’s ancestors forbade the practice of medicine. His previous medical advice to Tang Yumei and Bai Lu had been merely from a friend’s perspective—suggesting herbal remedies and offering guidance on clearing meridians—neither charging fees nor taking responsibility, convincing himself he wasn't truly practicing medicine. But here on the operating table, if he were to take the scalpel himself, it would be an undeniable act of practicing medicine. Thus, he chose to guide them, letting them handle the actual work.
In Wei Changqing’s eyes, Zhou Yang was simply avoiding liability. After all, if something went wrong while Zhou Yang was operating in their hospital, he would be held accountable, so he insisted the staff do the work. With no other options, they had to comply.
"Agreed. You instruct, and we will cooperate," Wei Changqing said.
Following the guidance of the Golden Scales, Zhou Yang directed Wei Changqing to the specific meridians and acupuncture points, instructing them on where to apply tourniquets and how to exert pressure or stimulation. After a mere three minutes, the bleeding miraculously ceased.
"Incredible!"
Even Wei Changqing could not help but marvel. He had witnessed too many clinical cases where bleeding couldn't be stanched, leading to the patient’s death. Fortunately, Zhou Yang was here today; otherwise, Qiao Youliang’s life would have been lost.
"I never imagined Mr. Zhou possessed such medical prowess. Working in sales at EPS is truly a waste of your talents!" Wei Changqing remarked. If Zhou Yang were to join his hospital, it would be like adding wings to a tiger. However, unsure of Zhou Yang’s intentions, he kept his own cards close to his chest.
Zhou Yang smiled. "It's no waste. To each their own ambitions, haha!"
Wei Changqing delegated the remaining tasks to the other doctors and accompanied Zhou Yang out of the operating room and back to the office.
"Mr. Zhou, thank you for your help today. Once Mr. Qiao wakes up, I will tell him everything," Wei Changqing said. "You are his savior."
"Director Wei, there is no need for such formalities. It was just a small favor," Zhou Yang replied.
Wei Changqing continued, "Then, regarding our partnership..."
Zhao Ziying, who had been waiting on the side, was already impatient. She shook her head at Zhou Yang, signaling that a partnership was impossible. Zhou Yang, however, ignored her and said directly, "Director Wei, the terms you proposed are fine. We can meet all of these requirements!"
"Oh, thank you so much!" Wei Changqing beamed.
Standing nearby, Zhao Ziying was shocked. "Zhou Yang, you are violating the rules of our sales department!"
"What rules?"
"If the business volume doesn't meet the quota, we cannot grant unlimited supply rights for best-selling drugs, let alone a twenty percent discount!" Zhao Ziying countered. "By opening this door for this client, what happens when smaller clients come asking for the same goods and the same discount? Do we give it to them or not?"
Zhou Yang replied, "Clients differ in nature. If they are pharmacies or medical distributors, we follow the rules, no problem. But this is a hospital—a place for saving lives and healing the wounded. Shouldn't we provide more convenience?"
Zhou Yang’s argument, rooted in morality and public welfare, left Zhao Ziying speechless. Unable to save face, she rose angrily. "If you can negotiate with clients on your own, why do you need me to come along? Negotiate it yourself!"
She swayed her hips in her heels and stormed out of the office in a rage.
Wei Changqing raised an eyebrow, smiling. "Your colleague has quite a temper!"
Zhou Yang replied, "I'm a newcomer to the department; everyone thinks they can walk all over me."
"If Mr. Zhou needs it, I have people who can ensure those individuals treat you with respect," Wei Changqing offered.
"No, no need!" Zhou Yang quickly waved his hand. He knew exactly what kind of "people" Wei Changqing was referring to.
"Director Wei, I brought the contracts today, so I can sign them right now," Zhou Yang said, pulling two copies from his bag. "Once I return to the office and process the paperwork, the partnership can begin!"
"Mr. Zhou is remarkably decisive. I admire that!" Wei Changqing looked at Zhou Yang with nothing but praise. Having spent years in both the medical field and the world at large, he had seen many capable young people. Someone like Zhou Yang—bold, talented, and efficient—was a rare, high-potential asset who was destined for success. He wanted to recruit Zhou Yang to work for him, but fearing a refusal, he kept his thoughts to himself, hoping to discuss it another time.
After leaving the hospital, Zhou Yang called Zhao Ziying, but she didn't answer and had already left by taxi. Zhou Yang knew she was likely heading back to report him to Su Jing. He had negotiated without limits, broken the department's rules, and bruised her ego; she wouldn't let this go easily. The people in the sales department were all sharp and held grudges; without a few tricks up his sleeve, it was difficult to survive there.
Fortunately, Zhou Yang had secured a major client in Sanxing, which served as a temporary "get-out-of-jail-free" card. If the department fired him, it was likely Sanxing would cancel the partnership as well.
With that, Zhou Yang felt he could act with a bit more impunity. If Zhao Ziying wanted to tattle, let her. At worst, he’d just get a lecture from Boss Su; it didn't matter.
Thinking this, Zhou Yang got into his car to return to the company. Suddenly, his phone rang; it was Bai Lu.
Zhou Yang answered, and Bai Lu said, "Zhou Yang, we’re having an alumni gathering at the Tianchen Hotel tomorrow night. You should come too!"
"Oh? How come I didn't receive a notification?" Zhou Yang asked, surprised. There had been no activity in the alumni group chat.
"Oh, this gathering is small-scale—just for classmates from our year who are doing well for themselves. There will be about six or seven of us," Bai Lu said. "And most of them are beauties!"
Zhou Yang chuckled. "I don't care about the beauties, but since you invited me, I can't be rude!"
"Psh, you've become quite the smooth talker!" Bai Lu laughed. "By the way, the medicine you prescribed for me is really effective. I've been sleeping very well these past few nights!"
"That's good to hear!"
"Are you busy?"
"I'm driving," Zhou Yang said.
"Then drive safely! See you tomorrow night," Bai Lu replied.
Zhou Yang sped back to the department and was immediately summoned to Su Jing’s office.
"You know why I called you in, don't you?" Su Jing asked.
"I do," Zhou Yang replied. "I authorized a deep discount for a client without permission and used sales privileges to relax our signing policies."
"Don't let this happen again," Su Jing said.
"Yes, Boss Su." Zhou Yang nodded.
"You may go."
Zhou Yang walked out of the office suppressing a smile, thinking to himself that after signing such a big deal, the whole world seemed much more peaceful. If this had happened in the past, Su Jing would have been absolutely furious.
