Chapter 63: You don't need to do this kind of thing
Actually, she hadn't packed that many things—just a single suitcase, which held almost everything she would need in the near future.
When she came out pushing the suitcase, Wen Jinhuai was sitting on the sofa playing with his phone, his fingers tapping rapidly across the screen.
She walked to the middle of the living room, her hand resting on the suitcase handle, and looked over.
"I'm all packed. The rest can be picked up later."
"Let's just buy new ones." His voice was very soft, and only after he finished speaking did he raise his head to look at her.
Jiang Mian stood in place, looking at him calmly. Her bright almond eyes blinked, but she didn't speak.
Wen Jinhuai realized something in an instant. As he stood up from the sofa, he gave her a slightly apologetic look. "Alright, we'll get the rest later."
While taking the elevator downstairs, he glanced sideways at her. The young girl was holding onto her suitcase while her other hand rested on her bag.
"I've called someone to pick us up, so you won't need to drive your car for now. Once we're settled back at Rose Garden, you can drive your car over next time."
To ask Jiang Mian to abandon the things she currently owned was, to be honest, unrealistic.
Besides, she probably liked her car very much; he could tell from the interior decorations.
Hearing his words, the young woman nodded and turned to give him a small smile.
When the hired car arrived at the entrance of Rose Garden, Wen Jinhuai got out first, lifted her suitcase out of the trunk, and naturally guided it as they walked inside the estate.
Jiang Mian trotted to catch up, intending to take it from his hands, but he glanced at her sideways.
"Jiang Mian, you don't need to do things like this."
Otherwise, it would make him look like a bully.
She muttered an acknowledgement, nodded, and quietly followed by his side.
This was her second time coming to his home, but the difference was that this time she had a new identity.
The mistress of the house.
It sounded truly incredible, but it was the absolute truth.
Wen Jinhuai found a pair of new slippers for her at the entryway. When he put them down, he looked at them for a moment, a trace of apology in his tone. "Let's go buy some women's slippers later."
She took a slight step back, thinking she had misheard. "Later?"
He stood up, stepping a bit closer. "Grandfather said that once we got our marriage license, I should bring you home for a meal. So on our way back, we can probably pick up a few things."
It felt a bit too fast. Meeting Elder Wen right after getting the marriage certificate?
Having met him just the day before at the birthday banquet, her status had instantly transformed into that of a granddaughter-in-law. Wasn't this all happening a bit too fast?
Feeling slightly short of breath, she held her breath, nodded, and quickly lowered her head to change her shoes.
Wen Jinhuai helped her take the suitcase up to the second floor, then stopped in front of the second door on the right-hand side.
"This is your room." He pushed the door open. The interior was dominated by white tones, looking clean, tidy, and thoroughly prepared.
Jiang Mian blinked and walked in. The room was fully furnished.
There was a wardrobe, a vanity table, two nightstands, and even a separate computer desk.
The room featured a modest balcony, with a lounge chair placed near it.
To be honest, this room was by no means small, and it even came with an ensuite bathroom.
Wen Jinhuai stopped beside the computer desk, watching as she walked around to inspect the space, eventually stepping out onto the balcony.
From the balcony, one could see the glass flowerhouse down below. The location of this guest room could be considered quite favorable.
"My room is next door. If you need anything, you can come find me."
Wen Jinhuai's room next door was larger than this guest bedroom, resembling a combination of a small living room and a bedroom, as it even contained a sofa and a coffee table.
His balcony faced the front of the villa, allowing anyone standing on it to see if visitors were arriving.
Jiang Mian nodded and reached out to touch the curtains. They were off-white with subtle white embroidered patterns that were almost invisible from a distance.
Most things in Wen Jinhuai's home seemed to be like this; to an untrained eye, their true value would be completely imperceptible.
Had her father not taken her around to see such things in the past, she would have assumed the furnishings in this guest room were merely ordinary decorations.
After all, the curtain she was currently touching had a market price of around one hundred and twenty thousand.
Silence reached its peak at that moment. These were truly wealthy people.
When Wen Jinhuai stepped out of the guest room, he turned to look at her once more, his raised hand hovering and twitching slightly in the air before he furrowed his brow.
"Perhaps you might want to change your clothes."
She looked down at what she was currently wearing—a set of off-white casual wear.
Wearing this was fine, but going to see Elder Wen probably counted as meeting the elders of the family, so changing into something else would indeed be better.
"Alright," she nodded.
Wen Jinhuai turned and left, his footsteps fading as he walked downstairs.
Jiang Mian closed the bedroom door and still couldn't resist taking a couple more turns around the room.
The silk duvet spread across the bed felt soft to the touch. She squeezed it, then let herself fall backward onto the mattress, spreading her limbs and sliding slightly across the surface. It was extremely comfortable.
On the ceiling, the white crystal chandelier seemed to refract colorful rays of light.
After lying there for a moment, she rolled over and got up.
She opened her suitcase to pick out an outfit, drew all the curtains shut, and sat on the edge of the bed to change.
The outfit she put on was a light yellow Chanel-style tweed set, with an A-line skirt hugging her thighs and revealing her long legs.
The matching short cropped jacket added just the right amount of width to her shoulders.
Since the only shoes she had brought were flats, she grabbed her sole pair of white flat shoes.
The overall look did not appear out of place at all.
She used the mirror to simply tidy up her hair, braiding the sides slightly before pinning everything neatly at the back of her head. This made her look much cleaner and more professional.
Wearing hair down could sometimes make a person look a bit unkempt, so in most formal occasions, tying it up was necessary.
When she finished dressing and went downstairs, Wen Jinhuai was sitting on the sofa with a laptop open on the coffee table, focused on handling some work.
Jiang Mian paused on the stairs, holding onto the banister to watch for a moment before nodding to herself and continuing downward.
"Wen Jinhuai." Although calling him by his full name felt a bit distant, a more intimate form of address seemed impossible to utter.
Like how Gu Yuezhao called him "Jinhuai"—yeah, better forget that.
"All done?" He raised his head and gave her a head-to-toe look.
"Mhm, I'm all set."
"Alright." Wen Jinhuai closed his laptop, stood up, and turned slightly. "Wait for me at the entrance, I'll go get the car."
His Aston Martin was parked in the garage, though he rarely drove it himself.
Most of the time, when he went out for business, he traveled with Xiao Ming, having Xiao Ming drive the Cullinan instead.
As he drove out of the basement garage, Jiang Mian was waiting by the entrance. Once he brought the car to a steady halt, she walked around the front to the passenger side and got in.
Sitting in the back seat was completely out of the question; after all, given the dynamics of their relationship, Wen Jinhuai held the position of authority.
