Chapter Six: A Piece of Black Lace Lingerie
Page 1/3
Fu Wenhan furrowed his brows.
Xu Miao in his arms was light, yet the force with which she had bumped into him was not insignificant, and a trace of lingering panic still flickered in her eyes.
He lowered his gaze.
Xu Miao was much shorter than him, and from this angle, he could clearly see her delicate collarbones and the seductive curves outlined by the white slip dress she wore.
The fabric was minimal, barely covering the essential areas, leaving vast expanses of snow-white skin exposed to the air, glowing with a subtle, tender sheen under the dim hallway light.
A restless heat surged in Fu Wenhan’s chest, his Adam’s apple rolling.
He loosened his firm grip on her arm, stepping back silently to create some distance between them, breaking the overly intimate closeness.
“Doctor Fu?” she blurted out, her voice tinged with alarm. “W-why are you here?”
Before Fu Wenhan could reply, the sharp sound of hurried footsteps and rough shouts came from around the corner:
“Where is she? Where did she run off to?”
Xu Miao’s face instantly turned pale as she instinctively shrank behind Fu Wenhan.
Fu Wenhan noticed her small movement and, considering her attire and the setting, a faint smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth:
“That’s a question I should be asking you. Miss Xu, what are you doing here? Meeting another man again?”
The phrase “meeting another man” was spoken so softly, yet it struck Xu Miao like three resounding slaps across her face.
Her cheeks burned fiercely.
“I wasn’t!” she hurriedly defended, her eyes instantly reddening. “That time was a bit reckless... but I swear, it was truly my first and last time!”
It seemed she had long been branded in his mind as having a chaotic private life.
But now, she couldn’t bother explaining so much.
The footsteps of Master Fan’s two bodyguards grew closer. In desperation, Xu Miao grabbed Fu Wenhan’s sleeve:
“I came here to find a part-time job! But then... I ran into some danger. Could you please take me home? I’ll make it up to you afterward! Please, Doctor Fu!”
Her eyes, misty with tears, and her fingers clutching his suit sleeve so tightly that her knuckles whitened, trembled as she begged with a sobbing tone:
“Please help me! I really am in danger!”
Fu Wenhan’s brow knit tightly.
Seeing his reluctance, Xu Miao grew more anxious.
If Fu Wenhan left, she would truly be at Master Fan’s mercy tonight; tears began to fall uncontrollably.
Her body trembled even more violently.
Fu Wenhan instinctively wanted to refuse—she had lied repeatedly before—but her gaze didn’t seem like an act.
Besides, she was indeed dressed a bit provocatively tonight.
Glancing again at her pitiful appearance, an inexplicable heat rose within him. Impatiently, he said in a low voice:
“Follow me. Don’t cause me trouble.”
With that, he turned and strode ahead with long, urgent steps.
Xu Miao was stunned for a moment.
He agreed?!
Without wiping away her tears, she lifted her skirt and staggered after him.
Fu Wenhan walked briskly in front, leading her into a staff-only secure passage.
As he hurried downstairs, he pulled out his phone from his trouser pocket and swiftly typed out a message with one hand.
The pale glow of the screen flashed, and Xu Miao’s sharp eyes caught the line: [Don’t wait for me. Go home first.]
Who was the message for?
Xu Miao’s heart was scratched as if clawed by a cat.
A girlfriend?
Indeed, someone as handsome as him and a gynecological expert must have a girlfriend.
They exited through an inconspicuous side door.
Fu Wenhan stopped beside a black Bentley, pressing the key fob—its lights flickered.
He opened the front passenger door succinctly: “Get in.”
Xu Miao didn’t dare hesitate and quickly got inside.

Looking at the car, Xu Miao was puzzled; this Bentley must cost at least seven figures.
Do doctors earn this much nowadays?
Fu Wenhan looked young; his position shouldn’t be very high, right?
The car smelled of the same oceanic scent he wore—clean and cool.
After Xu Miao entered the address into the navigation, Fu Wenhan started the car immediately. As they left the road, Xu Miao’s tense nerves relaxed slightly.
But not long after, she caught a glimpse in the rearview mirror that made her heart leap again.
A black Mercedes had been following them from the moment they left the hotel parking lot, maintaining a steady distance.
That car model...
She remembered it clearly—it was the one Master Fan arrived in today!
“Doctor Fu,” Xu Miao’s voice trembled uncontrollably, “there’s a car following us.”
Fu Wenhan didn’t reply but cast a cold glance at the rearview mirror. His fingers tightened on the steering wheel, and without showing it, he pressed the accelerator deeper.
The car shot forward like an arrow, quickly putting distance between them and the Mercedes.
But the driver of the Mercedes was no slouch and kept close behind.
After over ten minutes, they arrived beneath Xu Miao’s apartment building.
Fu Wenhan didn’t turn off the engine immediately; his profound gaze watched the black car, which had stopped not far away, through the rearview mirror.
Following his line of sight, Xu Miao’s relieved heart was gripped again by fear, and her body began to tremble uncontrollably.
“They’re still here...”
Fu Wenhan withdrew his gaze, unclasped his seatbelt, and looked at her without emotion: “I’ll walk you upstairs.”
Xu Miao’s eyes welled up with tears as she nodded rapidly, “Thank you so much, Doctor Fu! You’re truly my savior!”
Fu Wenhan paused briefly, then pushed open the door and got out.
He went around to the passenger side, and as he opened the door, he cast a cold glance toward the Mercedes.
Then he reached out and grasped Xu Miao’s slender arm, pulling her out of the car.
The heat from his palm burned through the thin fabric, making Xu Miao shiver.
He half-led her into the apartment lobby.
Only when the elevator doors closed, isolating them from the outside world, did Xu Miao dare to breathe deeply.
At her door, she trembled as she punched in the code and pushed the door open.
“I’ll be leaving now.”
Fu Wenhan said as he prepared to go, but Xu Miao quickly caught his arm:
“Doctor Fu, thank you so much again tonight,” she leaned against the doorframe, still shaken as she glanced back. “But I’m really scared. What if they’re still waiting downstairs?”
She had a feeling Master Fan would rush up as soon as he left.
She lifted her misty eyes: “Could you please stay a little longer? Just a bit, until they leave? A good deed deserves another...”
Fu Wenhan’s gaze swept across her modest but tidy and cozy apartment, finally resting on her pale, anxious face.
He sighed softly, “I’ll sit for ten minutes and then leave.”
“All right, all right!”
They sat in the living room. Xu Miao was uneasy, barely daring to look at Fu Wenhan.
No need to guess—his expression must be dark and forbidding.
Xu Miao recalled the last time they were alone in the hotel room and her awkward, shameful behavior.
The more she thought about it, the more shameless she felt; no wonder his impression of her was so poor.
The embarrassment was almost unbearable.
“Where’s the bathroom? I need to use it.”
Xu Miao pointed vaguely in the direction.
Fu Wenhan entered the bathroom and closed the door behind him.
The space was small but neat, and a faint scent of shower gel lingered in the air.
His gaze inadvertently swept over the mirror, and he suddenly froze when he saw the lingerie hanging behind the shower curtain.
It was a piece of black lace lingerie with minimal fabric.
The straps were so thin they looked as if they might snap with a tug, the front adorned with sheer lace, boldly designed to nearly reveal everything, brimming with strong suggestive meaning.
He picked up the hand towel by the sink and noticed a conspicuous box of condoms.
She truly had no intention of changing her ways, always keeping such things in the bathroom.
He even wondered if she was setting him up.
Fu Wenhan’s thin lips pressed into a straight line. Without using the bathroom, he turned and opened the door.
“I should go now.”
Xu Miao sensed something was amiss; his attitude changed after just one trip inside.
“Wait, Doctor Fu, I’m afraid they’re still downstairs. If you leave, I’ll be scared alone!”
Fu Wenhan’s eyes fell on her hand clutching his sleeve and frowned.
He shook off her hand roughly. “Miss Xu, you lied to me about your terminal illness last time, and now you’re lying again about being in danger. Are you really that desperate?”
Boom!
Xu Miao’s mind went blank as if exploded.
She stared at him dumbfounded, her lips moving but no words coming out.
He knew her cancer report was fake?
Fu Wenhan looked at her pale face with deeper scorn in his eyes: “No words, huh?”
Caught red-handed, she was too ashamed to say anything.
Yes, she was a liar.
In his eyes, she was a deceitful woman with a chaotic private life.
Even her plea for help tonight was a lie.
She had no right to keep asking him.
Xu Miao swayed, her hand clutching his sleeve falling limply.
Seeing her silence, Fu Wenhan’s disgust deepened. Without another glance, he turned and headed for the door.
Bang!
The security door slammed shut heavily.
Her heart ached slightly, but fear quickly took over again.
Were Master Fan’s men still downstairs?
She ran to the window and peeked outside; the black Mercedes was gone.
She exhaled heavily, the stone in her heart finally dropping.
Although she was destined to marry Master Fan eventually, she wanted to delay it as long as possible, especially since she truly did not want to be coerced.
She entered the bathroom and was about to remove the slip dress when she pulled back the shower curtain and found the “gift” her best friend had left her.
The scale of this lingerie could be called a “battle suit” without exaggeration.
No wonder Fu Wenhan thought she had ulterior motives.
Completely misunderstood, combined with lying about her illness earlier, her image in his mind must be abysmal.
Feeling utterly disheartened, she opened the faucet and saw the condom box beside it again.
Xu Miao:...
With these two things, plus her insistence on inviting Fu Wenhan inside, she was truly beyond redemption now.
At this moment, she just hoped never to see Fu Wenhan again in her life.
Too humiliating!!!
Just then—
Knock! Knock! Knock!
Heavy, urgent pounding on the door sounded as if trying to break it down!
Then, a rough man’s voice outside shouted with ill intent:
“Xu Miao! I know you’re inside! Open the door now!”
