Chapter 23: Are You an Assassin?
Faced with Wang Chu’s confusion, Chuxue took a deep breath and looked up.
“I want to experience what it feels like to sleep beside someone before I die. Is that all right?”
Wang Chu gazed at her beautiful face.
“Won’t I be poisoned?”
Chuxue smiled.
“Don’t worry. As long as you don’t do the sort of thing described in those books, there won’t be any problem.”
Wang Chu sat down on the edge of the bed and began removing his shoes.
“Sure. That saves me the trouble of making another bed.”
After taking off his shoes, Wang Chu also removed his clothes, revealing the white sleeping robe beneath.
Chuxue watched his back, her cheeks gradually growing hot.
When Wang Chu lifted the bedding and climbed into the bed beside her, Chuxue’s breathing began to quicken.
Even when assassinating a Soul Formation expert, Chuxue had never felt nervous. But now, she was.
Wang Chu turned toward her and looked at the girl, who seemed visibly flustered. With a smile, he asked, “What is it? Not used to this?”
At that moment, Chuxue resembled snow melting beneath the sunlight of early spring. Her eyes glistened with moisture, like droplets on the verge of falling.
“It feels so strange. My heart is racing, but I don’t feel resistant to it. In fact, I’m a little happy.”
Wang Chu pondered this.
“Could this be what people call youthful hormones?”
“What are those?”
Chuxue asked.
Wang Chu explained, “Simply put, it’s the affection between men and women.”
“Th—the affection between men and women!”
Chuxue’s face grew even redder, and her speech became halting.
“S—so this is what they mean by the affection between men and women? It feels like… it isn’t bad.”
Hearing this, Wang Chu said with shameless self-admiration, “That depends on the person. Sharing a bed with a handsome man like me naturally feels good. If it were someone else, you’d surely feel sick and nauseated.”
Chuxue was one of the few girls who never contradicted Wang Chu. With complete seriousness, she asked, “Is that so?”
Wang Chu put on a solemn expression.
“Exactly. Be honest—did you decide to sleep with me because of my looks?”
Chuxue honestly denied it.
“Not really. I just wanted to experience what it felt like.”
Wang Chu awkwardly rubbed his nose and began defending himself.
“Er… all right. Perhaps you don’t have much of a concept of beauty and ugliness, but subconsciously, you still think I’m good-looking.”
Chuxue burst out laughing.
“Hehe, all right. You’re right.”
Wang Chu pursed his lips with mock indignation.
“I am.”
Chuxue looked at his face.
“Is this your first time too?”
Wang Chu shook his head.
“Of course not. I’m very popular with women. How could this be my first time?”
Chuxue sounded a little envious.
“Really? That’s wonderful.”
Wang Chu asked curiously, “What exactly do you do? With your looks, you shouldn’t be without even a single hopeless admirer.”
“A hopeless admirer?”
Chuxue realized that this seemingly ordinary man often blurted out words she could not understand.
“What is that? Something to eat?”
Wang Chu thought for a moment before replying, “It basically means someone of the opposite sex who likes pursuing you.”
Chuxue did not understand and remarked, “What does that have to do with sheep?”
After saying this, she answered Wang Chu’s question.
“From childhood until now, I’ve only known one person. That person always wore a mask, so I never knew whether they were a man or a woman.”
Wang Chu roughly understood the young woman’s profession.
“You’re an assassin?”
Chuxue answered nervously, “Yes, but don’t be afraid. I didn’t come to kill you.”
Wang Chu showed no sign of panic and continued asking, “Did you flee after betraying them?”
Chuxue shook her head.
“No. Because I was poisoned, that person abandoned me. They intended to kill me, but I killed them first.”
Wang Chu praised her. “Impressive.”
Chuxue smiled. “Thank you.”
At that point, Wang Chu yawned.
“I’m a little tired. Shall we sleep?”
Chuxue still felt reluctant to end their conversation, but she agreed.
“Mm. Let’s sleep.”
Wang Chu rose and blew out the oil lamp before returning to her side.
“See you tomorrow. Good night.”
“W—wait a moment.”
Chuxue’s soft, delicate voice sounded in the darkness.
Wang Chu asked, “Do you want some water?”
“No.”
Chuxue paused.
“Could you… hold me while we sleep? I…”
Before she could finish, an arm had already locked around her waist.
“Is this all right?”
Warmth brushed against her ear, and an unfamiliar chest pressed against her face.
Chuxue’s entire body stiffened. Awkwardly and inexperiencedly, she managed to respond.
“I—it’s all right.”
“Go to sleep.”
“All right.”
The dark night passed in silence. Before long, the only sounds in the room were the breathing of two people—
and the faintest trace of sobbing.
Wang Chu pretended not to hear and soon fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning, when Wang Chu awoke, Chuxue, who had been sleeping beside him, had already risen from the bed.

She sat at the wooden table not far from the bed, propping up her chin with one hand as she gazed directly at Wang Chu.
“When did you wake up?”
Wang Chu climbed out of bed and asked.
“I didn’t sleep. I couldn’t, and I don’t need to.”
Wang Chu straightened and stretched.
“Cultivation really is convenient. You don’t even need to sleep.”
Chuxue said, “But we have to enter secluded meditation. Sometimes we sit for several years at a time.”
Wang Chu walked over to a stand used for washing one’s face.
“How boring must that be?”
“It is very boring.”
Wang Chu began washing his face with a handkerchief.
“When I’m done washing, I’ll take you out to see the sights.”
Chuxue looked forward to it.
“Where are you planning to take me?”
Wang Chu put on an air of mystery and deliberately kept her guessing.
“You’ll find out when we get there.”
Less than half an hour later, after taking Chuxue out for breakfast, Wang Chu hired a carriage and left the city with her.
When they reached the city gate, he once again encountered Jiang Wan, who had visited his shop the day before.
Wang Chu stopped the carriage and took the initiative to greet her.
“Well, Miss Su, what a coincidence! You wouldn’t happen to be keeping constant track of me and deliberately arranging this encounter, would you?”
Jiang Wan felt guilty but pretended to remain calm.
“Master Wang, don’t be so conceited. I’m merely going out to buy something and happened to be passing by. Who said I was arranging an encounter with you?”
Wang Chu looked at her suspiciously.
“Really?”
Jiang Wan planted her hands on her hips and repeated emphatically, “I’m… not!”
Wang Chu nodded, wearing an expression that said he knew she was lying but could not be bothered to expose her.
“All right, then. I misunderstood you. My apologies.”
Jiang Wan suppressed her anger and glanced at the carriage. The next instant, a flicker passed through her eyes, and she felt slightly startled.
“Master Wang, where are you going?”
Wang Chu countered, “What is it? Do you want another ride? The second one comes with a fare.”
Jiang Wan rolled her eyes.
“I was only asking. If you don’t want to say, forget it. Who wants a ride from you?”
She turned and walked away. Not long after she had left, Chuxue lifted the carriage curtain and asked, “Who was that person who spoke to you just now?”
Wang Chu answered, “Oh, she’s a customer who bought something from my shop.”
Chuxue nodded and sat back down. Inwardly, she thought, That woman’s cultivation is no weaker than mine. She is probably also here searching for the First Prince.
