Chapter 59: Devouring Whole

Liu Jianshe believed that as long as Cheng Shi could return, all those insults would naturally collapse on their own.
But Cheng Shi didn’t give him a shred of face at all.
He had already humbled himself, groveling to such a degree.
Yet Cheng Shi actually slapped him outright?!
Didn’t he even regard him, the factory director, in the slightest?
It was infuriating beyond measure.
This was no longer a matter of business—it was purely personal grievance.
If he couldn’t make Cheng Shi suffer and never rise again, then all these years wasted in this industry would be for nothing!
Just then, Hu Guangcai returned to the workshop. Seeing Qian Xiaoying, his anger flared anew: “Pack up and prepare for layoff.”
Qian Xiaoying felt a buzzing in her head and stood up abruptly: “You can’t solve your own problems. Why make me the scapegoat?! Is it because I’m the only woman in the whole workshop? I’m heading straight to the city Women’s Federation to report you!”
Having said that, she stormed out.
In truth, she knew these were just angry words, more for venting than effect; the Women’s Federation didn’t meddle in work disputes.
What to do, what to do?
She felt flustered.
Exiting the director’s office, she overheard people gossiping: “Did you hear? Cheng Shi fixed the machine tool at the automobile factory, but they still can’t produce parts.”
“Why’s that? Is Cheng Shi’s skill that exceptional?”
“That’s part of it. The key is, Cheng Shi recalibrated the old machine tool’s precision. So now, only his machine tool in the whole city meets the precision requirements. The automobile factory’s machine tool isn’t even adjusted properly.”
“They could just ask him to recalibrate theirs.”
“Heh, would you go smash your own rice bowl? Cheng Shi helped them out of friendship. If it were me, I wouldn’t lift a finger.”
“So, Cheng Shi doesn’t want to appear too honest. Given his ability, why didn’t he calibrate both machines earlier? Even if our skills aren’t as good now, we could still produce qualified parts.”
“Exactly. So he deserves every bit of criticism.”
A thought flashed through Qian Xiaoying’s mind, followed by wild joy: Yes, it’s all about the machine tool’s precision.
She headed straight to the factory director’s office.

Liu Jianshe looked at her with growing impatience: This woman is more trouble than help.
Daring to confront me like this—she really overestimates herself.
Qian Xiaoying said, “Director, I have a way to reclaim the machine tool and restore normal production in Workshop Two.”
Liu Jianshe raised an eyebrow. “Oh? Go on.”
Qian Xiaoying replied, “I have a condition.”
Liu Jianshe responded, “Speak.”
Qian Xiaoying said, “If my plan works, you must promote me to workshop director and lay off Hu Guangcai.”
Liu Jianshe nodded, “Agreed.”
Qian Xiaoying continued, “Cheng Shi took more than just five thousand yuan’s worth of machine tools. He’s embezzling state property.”
Liu Jianshe was taken aback. “Ah...”
Qian Xiaoying said, “Just have someone appraise that machine tool. A machine tool with that level of precision is definitely worth more than five thousand.”
Suddenly, Liu Jianshe realized, “Ah, right. Although it was appraised late last year, thanks to the efforts of comrades in Workshop Two, the machine tool was repaired. Its true value is well beyond five thousand. But Cheng Shi concealed this, and I unknowingly signed the equipment transfer agreement.”
Even without Cheng Shi’s recalibration and repairs, the machine tool was worth more than five thousand yuan.
Qian Xiaoying said, “As the one who used this machine tool the most, I can testify.”
If they said Cheng Shi didn’t increase the machine’s value, that was simply untrue.
No matter how much Cheng Shi argued, it was useless.
Liu Jianshe said, “Good, good, good. This plan will work. It’s late today, so we can’t bring in experts now. Tomorrow morning, we’ll get started.”
This time, we can’t let Cheng Shi exploit any loopholes like last time.
I must report it first and seize the initiative.
Meanwhile, Cheng Shi was in his office pondering integrated circuits when someone knocked at the door. He looked up and saw Qian Xiaoying.
He put down his papers and regarded her coolly.
This woman seemed possessed, and he had no idea what she wanted now.
Qian Xiaoying smiled faintly. “Xiao Shi, only I can save you now. It’s not too late to make up with me.”
Cheng Shi frowned slightly. “Hmm?!”

Qian Xiaoying said, “As long as you still consider me your girlfriend, I’ll resign from the machinery factory to help you.”
Cheng Shi picked up his papers again and said, “No need. You may leave.”
Qian Xiaoying bit her lip in frustration. “I don’t believe you can be so heartless.”
Cheng Shi didn’t even raise an eyelid. “No. Don’t ask me the same thing repeatedly. It’s a waste of time.”
Qian Xiaoying steeled herself, slammed the door shut behind her, stepped forward, and unbuttoned her blouse, revealing a snowy expanse of turbulent curves.
“I know you’re angry because I haven’t given you everything, suspecting I want to marry someone else. Well, today I’m giving it to you.”
Cheng Shi immediately stood and opened the door. “Get out. Have some self-respect. This will only make me despise you more.”
Qian Xiaoying hadn’t expected that after all this, Cheng Shi remained unmoved and was actually pushing her away. Humiliated and angry, she began tearing at her clothes.
“Are you not afraid I’ll accuse you of rape?”
Cheng Shi said, “Go ahead and report it. But I must remind you, rape requires evidence. We never had any physical contact; not a single fingerprint of mine on you, let alone decisive proof. Besides, multiple witnesses saw you enter my office. Subjective intent determines guilt.”
Qian Xiaoying’s eyes darted nervously.
Suddenly, a bucket of cold water splashed over her head.
Before she could scream, she was struck repeatedly with a broom.
Cai Aiping cursed as she wielded the broom: “You shameless wretch! How dare you come ruin my son! I was blind before, even wanted you as my daughter-in-law.”
If anyone hated Qian Xiaoying most in this world, it wasn’t Cheng Shi, but Cheng Shi’s family.
Especially Cai Aiping.
Just thinking of all the grievances Cheng Shi suffered because of Qian Xiaoying made Cai Aiping wish she could tear her apart alive.
So when Cai Aiping saw Qian Xiaoying come in, she rushed down immediately, fearing Cheng Shi might lose his head if Qian Xiaoying coaxed him again and they got back together.
Now that Cheng Shi had clearly rejected her, and Qian Xiaoying was still pestering him, even trying to frame him, Cai Aiping was furious.
Qian Xiaoying covered her face and ran out.
Everyone on the street turned to stare at her disheveled appearance.
Cai Aiping pointed and shouted, “Wretch! If you dare pester my son or slander him again, I’ll beat you to death!”
The textile factory women, hearing this, immediately grew excited, grabbed brooms and water dippers, and closed in, eager to show Qian Xiaoying their fighting spirit.
