Staring at the detailed information flashing in his mind, Wei Xiu twitched at the corner of his mouth.
This is the damn HQ-9! Not some HQ-H9.
He was utterly baffled.
“Minister Zhang, you really think highly of me, huh? Giving me such a major national asset to repair? This thing must cost tens of millions, right?”
“The missile itself doesn’t need your repair skills, just the chassis has problems,” Zhang Mingrui quickly explained.
The launcher unit of this air defense missile wasn’t a big issue. It was just the transport chassis that was unreliable. The unit’s maintenance company had tried multiple times but failed to fix it thoroughly. If it couldn’t be fixed soon, it would have to be sent back to the factory for an overhaul.
But there was an urgent mission now; not a single piece of equipment could be missing.
That’s why Zhang Mingrui thought of Wei Xiu.
“My team suspects the hydraulic leveling system is faulty, but we can’t fix it. Do you have any ideas?”
Wei Xiu relaxed his brow slightly, answering evasively, “How much is this chassis worth?”
“Just over a million.”
“Then I can fix it.”
He currently had less than ten million repair points. Overhauling an entire missile was impossible, but repairing a chassis alone was comfortably within his means.
Zhang Mingrui didn’t understand, “How much would it cost for you to refuse repairs?”
“About over ten million.”
“You’re just boasting. Who repairs based on price?”
Zhang Mingrui thought Wei Xiu was joking and stopped pressing the matter.
“All the equipment and personnel here are at your disposal,” he said. “Fix this as soon as possible. The recent readiness tasks are heavy.”
Just as Zhang Mingrui was about to leave, Wei Xiu asked, “How do you want it fixed? High spec or low spec?”
“Of course, as best as you can!”
Zhang Mingrui thought to himself, Where’s the sense in that? You’re fixing a vehicle, not choosing upgrades. As long as it’s fixed, that’s top spec.
He turned to the maintenance company personnel, ordering them to cooperate fully with Wei Xiu’s work.
Although everyone verbally agreed, the moment Zhang Mingrui left, their expressions changed instantly.
Just who does he think he is?
This vehicle had been sitting here for days. The unit’s mechanics had studied it, as had the regional command staff. They all scratched their heads in frustration after checking it.
Everyone only had a shallow understanding: they roughly knew where the problem lay but didn’t know how to fix it.
Minister Zhang casually pulls some guy from society and expects him to fix it?
Nonsense.
“Hey, rookie, which unit are you from?”
Yang Hu, the maintenance company commander, leaned against the truck, trying to get close.
Wei Xiu circled the chassis three times on the left, three times on the right, and replied, “Victory Home Appliance Repair Shop.”

Yang Hu burst out laughing, “Bro, don’t mess with me—I’m serious.”
“Who’s messing with you?”
Wei Xiu was speechless. Communication between people was getting more and more frustrating.
He tells the truth, and no one believes him. He lies, and they believe without hesitation. It’s like some twisted rule.
He didn’t bother arguing further.
His eyes were full of eagerness to work. After all, fixing this thing would earn him a few million repair points.
[Model: TA5380 (100% Domestic)]
[Engine: Weichai WP12.480 Diesel (480 hp/1800 rpm, 2200 Nm torque)]
[Drive: Full-time 8×8 with Central Tire Inflation System]
[Suspension: Independent Hydro-pneumatic (420mm travel) + Lateral Stabilizer Bar]
[Integrity: 65%]
A schematic unfolded in his mind. The system highlighted the faulty parts in red and yellow.
Surprisingly, the damage was very specific.
The hydraulic leveling system was problematic. The foldable launcher rack had issues. The lateral stabilizer bar was broken. The antistatic coating resistance was off.
“Did you guys crash this thing for fun?”
Yang Hu didn’t get it, “What do you mean?”
“You’ve got too many faults here—no module can run independently.”
“Really? Take a look~”
Yang Hu’s tone was dripping with sarcasm.
Regardless of Wei Xiu’s skill level, he had been standing by the truck less than ten minutes and already diagnosed severe faults.
Like some flimsy pulse diagnosis.
At least a pulse diagnosis uses some thread; you don’t even have a wrench. Just spouting nonsense about faults—who would believe that?
“Please get a large lifting machine here,” Wei Xiu ordered. “Prepare an oscilloscope and a military-grade OBD scanner.”
“Also need a resistance tester and coil starter.”
He had roughly identified the repair direction and wanted to start immediately.
But Yang Hu was unmoved.
Are you kidding me? Just looking at the truck and already wanting to dismantle parts?
Not even if Minister Zhang ordered it would Yang Hu cooperate. Who would take responsibility if something got broken?
“Hey, at least look at the maintenance records, man.”
Wei Xiu waved off the suggestion, “No need.”
“The hydraulic leveling system is off by 6.4 degrees.”
“The foldable launcher rack’s travel is extended by 3 minutes.”
“The lateral stabilizer bar is broken.”
“The antistatic coating resistance far exceeds reasonable values.”
“It needs a major overhaul.”

Everyone froze on the spot, stunned.
Man, that was incredible.
This long detailed diagnosis sounded made-up.
But what he said matched the maintenance records almost exactly.
He even pinpointed the hydraulic leveling system’s error down to decimals.
Remember, after consultation among several units, they all suspected the hydraulic leveling system was faulty but couldn’t locate the exact problem.
This was unbelievable.
“What are you waiting for?”
“Get a large lifting machine here!”
“Prepare the oscilloscope and military-grade OBD scanner!”
“Bring over the resistance tester and coil starter!”
Yang Hu repeated Wei Xiu’s requests word for word, as if Wei Xiu was his superior.
He knew that as the maintenance company commander, he had repaired thousands of vehicles, but he had never seen anything like this.
Just circling the truck a few times and judging the faults—that’s crazy.
No wonder Minister Zhang treated him like a treasure.
Wei Xiu watched the busy soldiers with a pleased smile at the corner of his mouth.
What is the meaning of life?
Of course, it’s to occasionally show off a little, comforting these dull, fleeting years.
This little display on Yang Hu’s face would probably serve him well for days to come.
He would now wholeheartedly assist with the repairs.
To be fair, the chassis issue wasn’t major.
With leveling calibration and part replacement, it would be fixed in a day or two.
After all, it was just a high-spec truck.
The real soul of the vehicle was the missile launcher above.
Just as Wei Xiu’s gaze landed on the launcher, a blue light flashed in his mind.
[Detection complete…]
[Object integrity good; no repair needed.]
[Detection complete…]
[Upgradable components detected; deploy upgrade?]
Hmm?
Wei Xiu was slightly taken aback.
Normally, he couldn’t repair the HQ-9’s launcher due to insufficient points.
But now, it seemed he had discovered a new system version.
Even items with no faults could be upgraded, and this wasn’t limited by repair points.
Well then, might as well give it a try.
“Deploy!”
