Chapter Sixteen: You Will Regret It
“You’re asking for death!” The man’s face twisted into a cruel sneer as he spoke. “Since you don’t know your place, I’ll teach you a lesson—let’s see if you still dare to be so arrogant in the future.”
His temper was clearly volatile and straightforward, ready to fight at the slightest provocation.
He cracked his neck and stretched his body, the joints making sharp sounds, his expression cold and laced with a sinister smile. If it were anyone else, they would have been intimidated even before the fight began.
Lin Chen smiled calmly. “Fine, then teach me. I’m quite curious to see how you plan to teach me a lesson.”
Though his words were spoken with a smile, a chilling undertone ran through his voice.
Without hesitation, the man took a few aggressive steps forward, his momentum overwhelming. He threw a vicious hook aimed at Lin Chen’s temple, a cold sneer never leaving his face.
Such a strike was brutal—if it landed on an ordinary person, it could be fatal. It showed how utterly reckless he was, not valuing Lin Chen’s life at all.
Lin Chen snorted coldly and, anticipating the move, seized the man’s wrist with his left hand, freezing him instantly.
The man’s sneer vanished, replaced by shock. He struggled, but the grip was unyielding. His expression darkened.
Years of combat experience warned him—he had met a formidable opponent.
A true master’s strike reveals everything; Lin Chen’s effortless demeanor sent a shiver through him.
“Hmph! Didn’t expect you to have some skill. But so what? I’ll still cripple you!” he snarled.
Supporting his weight on his left foot, he lashed out with his right, striking at Lin Chen’s upper, middle, and lower body, but Lin Chen casually batted each blow aside with one hand.
Then, he delivered a rapid upward kick aimed at Lin Chen’s chest. Lin Chen’s hand flicked down nonchalantly, and as he released the other wrist, the man let out a startled scream. A powerful force pulled him down uncontrollably, his face slamming violently into the ground with a thunderous crash.
“With skills like that, you want to teach me a lesson? Better go back and practice for decades,” Lin Chen mocked.
“Bastard!”
The man lifted his head, blood streaming from his nose and mouth, his nose somewhat flattened, eyes bloodshot, his face terrifyingly menacing. With a roar, he pulled a small knife from his clothes and thrust it toward Lin Chen’s abdomen.
Lin Chen’s expression turned icy. “You’re asking for death!”
He twisted his body to dodge the blade. His leg whipped out like a whip, striking the man hard and sending him flying several meters before crashing into a tree with a rustle of leaves.
“You…” The once fierce man lay sprawled on the ground, struggling but too weak to rise.
Fear clouded his face as he cried out, “Who are you? How can you be this strong?”
Wu Shao had said he’d investigated the guy—just an ordinary person with some medical skills. How could an ordinary man be this powerful?
He himself was a fierce fighter, able to take on ten men at once—not self-proclaimed, but a reputation forged over years in the underworld. Usually, no one resisted him. Yet now, from start to finish, he was utterly overwhelmed.
Yes, utterly overwhelmed—there was no comparison.
“What’s wrong? Weren’t you going to teach me a lesson? Thought you were tough? Then get up and show me. All talk and no action—a soft weakling,” Lin Chen said coldly.
“You bastard! I’m not a weakling!” The fierce man, battered and broken, spat blood and blacked out.
Seeing him pass out, Lin Chen paid no more attention.
He knew this had thoroughly angered the so-called top heir of Yuehai City. But so what? If people don’t provoke me, I don’t provoke them. But if they do, I repay a hundredfold!
Just then, the man’s dropped phone rang. The screen displayed: Wu Shao!
Lin Chen narrowed his eyes. The real boss was calling to inquire about the outcome.
He walked over, picked up the phone, answered, and put it to his ear.
A young man’s voice, arrogant and commanding, came through: “Feng Wei, how’s it going? Did you warn that brat? If he doesn’t know his place, just beat him. If you kill him, just tell me—I’ll handle it.”
His tone was casual, as if killing some nobody was no big deal and he would take care of everything.
“Hello? Feng Wei? Why aren’t you answering? Can you hear me? What the hell are you doing?”
Lin Chen heard the confusion in the voice and replied coolly, “Wu Shao, right? The Feng Wei you mentioned is the owner of this phone. He can’t speak right now—he’s unconscious.”
There was a brief stunned silence on the other end, then a low voice said, “You’re Lin Chen?”
Lin Chen answered, “I didn’t expect Wu Shao to know my name. It’s an honor. But I don’t know your name, nor do I care.”
Suddenly, the voice on the other end laughed scornfully: “Kid, looks like you do have some skill. No wonder Leng Hanyan would be with you. Feng Wei really is useless. If you don’t mind, you can toss him into the sea to feed the fish—I don’t need dead weight around me.”
He paused, his tone turning cold. “But obviously, you haven’t figured out who you’re talking to. You don’t know how you should address me. You should show me respect. You probably don’t understand the consequences of such arrogance.”
His voice brimmed with self-importance, as if everyone should speak to him with utmost reverence.
Lin Chen responded indifferently, “Whoever you are, don’t provoke me. Otherwise, even if you were the king of gods, it wouldn’t matter. If you were in front of me right now, I’d slap you so hard your own mother wouldn’t recognize you.”
Lin Chen’s words were even more brazen, leaving Wu Shao stunned.
In his dreams, Leng Dongliu killed in a rage, no matter one’s background. Lin Chen, inheritor of that legacy, was less ruthless but no one to be threatened.
If you don’t bother me, even if you’re a street cleaner, I’ll speak politely. But if you provoke me, no matter how noble you are, you’ll get slapped, beaten, or killed as necessary.
“Interesting, very interesting!”
Wu Shao suddenly laughed, a wild, uncontrollable rage underlying his amusement. “Lin Chen, even if you stay away from Leng Hanyan, it’s useless now. You’ve angered me, and you will regret it. You’ll really regret it, because I’ll crush you!
“You, a poor nobody from a small town, dare to be arrogant with me? You say you can fight? How many can you take on? Ten? A hundred? In this world, no matter how good you are at fighting, it won’t help! I’ll make you understand just how foolish your actions today were, just how—”
Before he finished, Lin Chen lost interest. He clenched his hand tightly, crushing the metal phone beyond recognition.
Meanwhile, in a villa, a young man dressed in finery listened to the beeping on the other end. Furious, he slammed his phone to the floor, his face twisted in rage.
“Lin Chen, you arrogant fool! I will kill you for this!”
This poor trash who was nothing but dirt in his eyes dared to speak to him like that—it was unforgivable.
He had investigated the man—just a bumpkin from the countryside, once a lowly assistant at a modeling agency, and apparently now even that job was gone.
Who did he think he was, talking to him like that?
“I will make you regret this!”
On the other side, Lin Chen reflected on the man’s words with disdain.
“A hundred people? So what? When my body reaches its peak, even if a hundred people with knives stand in your way, I can still snap your head off.”
