Chapter 4: Let Me Be Your Girlfriend
The female doctor was also visibly shocked.
She knew the old man indeed had two gunshot wounds, but she hadn’t deduced that herself; the old man had told her. She never expected this man to be able to tell just from taking a pulse!
Could his hand possibly have X-ray capabilities?
Tan Hengxing was filled with pleasant surprise. He began to believe more and more that this young man could cure his father.
He answered eagerly, "My father was a soldier. He served on the battlefield in his youth and was shot. Twice, the bullets nearly took his life. One bullet was lodged right next to his heart, grazing it. That was when the ailment began, and his health has been poor ever since."
Lin Chen nodded. So, he was a soldier. No wonder he was much calmer in the face of death than the average person.
"Don't worry," Lin Chen said. "I can treat this condition. I need a few silver needles, and I can restore some vitality to the old gentleman right now. After that, I will prescribe a dose of traditional Chinese medicine. He should take it once every evening after dinner, and he will be fully recovered in a month."
Tan Hengxing was ecstatic upon hearing this, and a smile appeared on the old man's face. Although he did not fear death, who would choose to die if they could live?
Tan Hengxing shouted to the nurses in the room, "Silver needles! Quickly! Does this hospital have any silver needles? Go get them now!"
To Lin Chen's surprise, the cold doctor stepped in. "We have them. Wait a moment, I'll go get them," she said, before running out of the room.
For a moment, his impression of this cold doctor improved.
Seeing that he truly had some skill and might be able to cure her patient, she showed no resentment or irritation at being outperformed; instead, she looked expectant.
Anyone destined for true greatness should undoubtedly possess the courage to face reality and constantly strive for self-improvement.
What Lin Chen did not know was that this female doctor, Leng Hanyan, was a complete medical fanatic. Some people are obsessed with martial arts, but Leng Hanyan was obsessed with medicine. Seeing that Lin Chen could identify the two gunshot wounds simply by checking a pulse, she felt nothing but admiration.
Moreover, she was deeply curious: did Chinese medicine—specifically the art of acupuncture—really possess such miraculous effects that she had yet to understand?
Within a few minutes, Leng Hanyan returned with the silver needles.
Lin Chen picked up three needles. Without even bothering to disinfect them, a faint cyan-green light flashed over the needles, and he began his treatment.
It looked simple: he inserted one needle each into the old man's back, chest, and abdomen. The old man felt a stream of cool energy flowing from the needles whenever Lin Chen twirled them, and under that sensation, his body began to recover rapidly, losing its previous weakness.
In less than five minutes, Lin Chen removed the needles.
"It's over?" Leng Hanyan asked, stunned.
She had been watching with wide eyes, yet she hadn't caught a single trick of his technique!
Lin Chen nodded. "It's over."
The old man kept his eyes closed, as if sensing something, then opened them and laughed heartily. "Hahaha! It’s been so many years since I’ve felt this full of energy. I feel like I could get out of bed and run a few kilometers right now!"
Lin Chen smiled. "You certainly could, but it’s better not to for now. I’ll write a prescription shortly. You’ll need to recuperate for a month to fully recover, as your body is still somewhat weak and your internal organs have suffered significant damage."
He had great respect for veterans who had taken bullets for the country.
The old man thanked him with a smile, then got out of bed and walked around. He appeared to be in no further trouble.
Leng Hanyan was dumbfounded. A person she had effectively given a death sentence to was walking around after just a few minutes; this undoubtedly overturned her years of medical training.
Tan Hengxing looked at his recovered father, his eyes moist.
He turned to Lin Chen and asked, "Young man, may I ask your name?"
Undoubtedly, only now did he truly begin to regard the young man before him with seriousness. Although he had been apologetic and polite to Lin Chen earlier, that politeness was merely a formality; given his status and position, not everyone was qualified to befriend him.
But now, by asking for his name, he was expressing a desire to build a connection. The Lin Chen of this moment was truly worthy of his respect.
The most terrifying thing in this world is an assassin, because they take lives. But the person everyone wants to befriend is a skilled doctor, because they can save lives.
No matter how powerful a person is, they cannot avoid illness or disaster forever. If one knows a miracle doctor, it is like having an extra layer of protection for their life.
Lin Chen knew that Tan Hengxing had finally taken a genuine interest in him. He smiled and said, "My name is Lin Chen. 'Lin' as in forest, and 'Chen' as in the stars."
Tan Hengxing nodded, engraving the name into his mind. "I am quite a bit older than you. May I call you Brother Lin? If you don't mind, perhaps you could call me Brother Tan?"
Lin Chen laughed. "That works, Brother Tan. You don't need to thank me. To be honest, there is actually something I need your help with."
Tan Hengxing realized then why the other man had proactively asked if he had encountered any trouble after seeing his business card.
However, he didn't mind. As a businessman, he found it reassuring that the other party had a request; if someone helped him for no reason, he would have been suspicious.
He smiled. "Oh? Tell me. As long as it is within my power, I will certainly get it done for you!"
Lin Chen replied, "I haven't finalized the details yet. I will contact you when the time comes."
He intended to have Tan Hengxing handle the issue with Su Xiran. However, it would be best to bring Su Xiran along to meet Tan Hengxing, so that she could be introduced. With Tan Hengxing's protection, no one in the company would dare to bully her.
Tan Hengxing nodded and agreed, repeating that as long as it was within his power, he would handle it for Lin Chen.
Having achieved his goal, Lin Chen wrote the prescription and prepared to leave. As he walked out of the room, Leng Hanyan followed him and grabbed his arm.
"Something the matter?" Lin Chen asked, looking at her in confusion.
The fervor and adoration in Leng Hanyan's eyes startled him.
"What... are you doing?" Lin Chen asked, feeling awkward. Her holding onto him like that had already drawn the attention of several people.
Leng Hanyan didn't care about the onlookers at all. She had a cool, aloof personality and only focused on people she cared about; she didn't bother looking at anyone irrelevant. She said to Lin Chen, "Lin Chen, will you teach me acupuncture? I want to learn."
Her cold voice carried a hint of pleading.
Lin Chen didn't expect her to be after this. He shook his head immediately. "No."
He had just received his inheritance and had many things to do; he had no interest in teaching others.
A look of dissatisfaction appeared on Leng Hanyan's face. She frowned and said, "Although I grew up in the United States, I have heard a bit about Chinese medicine. I’ve heard that many ancient Chinese medical traditions are passed down to men but not women? Or that they aren't taught to outsiders? Is that the case with you?"
Lin Chen shook his head. "This has nothing to do with gender."
Leng Hanyan said, "So women can learn it, but it isn't taught to outsiders, right?"
Lin Chen was momentarily confused by her logic. What counted as an outsider? As far as Leng Dongliu's inheritance was concerned, perhaps everyone other than him and Leng Dongliu was an outsider.
"I suppose so," he replied.
Leng Hanyan nodded. She stared at Lin Chen, circled him once, and finally said, "How about this: I'll be your girlfriend? Then I won't be an outsider anymore. I'll be one of your own!"
Lin Chen nearly tripped. He couldn't keep up with her train of thought and said, speechless, "That’s not what I meant!"
Leng Hanyan wrinkled her nose. "Then do you mean I have to be your wife for me not to be an outsider?"
Lin Chen shook his head immediately. What was going on here?
Leng Hanyan blinked. "Does that mean I have to bear your children?"
Lin Chen: "..."
Lin Chen realized he couldn't reason with this woman, whose way of thinking was clearly not that of a normal person. He had heard that foreigners were quite direct; perhaps she had been influenced by living abroad for so long? But this was too direct! He never expected that she would be willing to give her whole self just to learn acupuncture—she was absolutely obsessed with medicine!
Lin Chen stopped talking and turned to leave. Leng Hanyan chased after him, so he picked up his pace.
He channeled the spiritual energy within him and instantly created distance between them.
Seeing Lin Chen walking further and further away, Leng Hanyan stomped her feet in frustration, then started to smile. "Don't think you can get away. You seemed so ordinary, yet you're so capable. You really are an interesting person."
A sly smile appeared on her cold, beautiful face, leaving the male doctors and patients in the hallway stunned.
Lin Chen stopped only when he saw that Leng Hanyan was no longer following him. He felt that she was much easier to deal with when she kept her cold, aloof expression.
He called Su Xiran again. It rang twice, but the call was suddenly hung up.
Listening to the dial tone, Lin Chen’s expression changed drastically.
Su Xiran had never hung up on him without a word. This was clearly abnormal!
A sense of foreboding washed over him. He felt a chill in his heart, as if he were about to lose something precious. He rushed toward the company in a frenzy.
When he reached the company, the security guard at the door only felt a gust of wind pass by. When he looked, there was no one there. He rubbed his eyes, thinking he had hallucinated.
Lin Chen appeared at the entrance of the company's photography studio. Hearing Su Xiran’s voice from inside, he kicked the door open and saw a scene that made his eyes widen with rage!
