Shu Xingruo was too tired to explain and didn’t reply to his message. She sat on the edge of the bed, telling stories to Ji Zhixu. Whenever he was with her, Ji Zhixu’s sense of humor was easily triggered, and he laughed heartily at her lively tales. The elderly couple of the Shu family heard his laughter and felt the whole house come alive with energy.
After the story, he hugged Shu Xingruo’s face and planted a big kiss on her cheek. “Mom, you’re the best mom in the world. I love you so much.” This little clever boy knew exactly how to make his mother happy, and a warm feeling surged through Shu Xingruo’s heart.
She asked him, “Why did you ask your dad for so much money?”
Ji Zhixu blinked his sparkling eyes and said, “To help you start a business! I want to be Mom’s angel investor.” He had overheard Ji Yanli talking on the phone about investments, so he had some idea.
Shu Xingruo smiled and hugged him tightly. “Thank you, little investor. Don’t worry about money; Mom will figure it out. Your only job is to be happy every day.”
After returning to her room, Shu Xingruo worked on a business plan for a while. With the funds she currently had, she could only afford to start a small to medium-sized pharmaceutical factory. She carefully planned every step: factory construction, equipment purchase, technical investment, licensing, environmental protection facilities, and working capital.
Before she knew it, it was midnight. Shu Xingruo hurried to wash up and sleep.
The next day, after dropping Ji Zhixu off at kindergarten, she didn’t go to Hengzhitang for her clinic but took her jewelry to a pawnshop. She sold everything she had, even her wedding ring, totaling 30 million yuan.
After handling that, she returned to the Ji family home.
Butler Liu asked, “Madam, are you moving back?”
Shu Xingruo shook her head and went straight to the walk-in closet to pack her things. Butler Liu sighed from behind and called a few maids to help her. He knew how much Shu Xingruo cared for Ji Yanli and that Ji Yanli had lost someone who truly loved him.
Shu Xingruo kept only three everyday bags and packed the rest of her luxury handbags, along with shoes and clothes she had worn over the years—ten boxes in total.
After packing, the entire closet was empty. The traces of her six years living in the Ji family home had been almost completely erased.
Feeling a bit hollow, she took a selfie in the empty closet and posted it on social media:
“Waving goodbye to the past!”

Lin Anhe immediately called, teasing, “What are you doing, tearing down the Ji family villa? If you’re going to tear something down, it might as well be your husband’s bones.”
Shu Xingruo took a deep breath and said, “No, I sold everything I didn’t need. I want to start a pharmaceutical factory and raise funds.”
Lin Anhe quickly offered, “How much are you short? I can mortgage my house and lend you the money.”
Shu Xingruo declined kindly, “I haven’t asked about the land price yet. If I need it, I’ll call you.”
Meanwhile, Ji Yanli, working, suddenly received a WeChat message from his friend Zhou Chuanwen: “Your wife sold the wedding ring!”
Zhou Chuanwen, the pawnshop owner, had heard from his manager that many pieces of jewelry were pawned today. Upon inspection, he immediately recognized Shu Xingruo’s wedding ring, which she treasured dearly. How could she have sold it? He promptly messaged Ji Yanli.
Ji Yanli didn’t care. He thought Shu Xingruo was just playing a trick to get his attention. He replied, “Whatever.”
Zhou Chuanwen said, “She didn’t just sell the ring; she sold a lot of jewelry. Seems she really needs money.”
Ji Yanli replied, “I don’t know. She doesn’t tell me.” She had his supplementary card, and her allowance was paid on time every month. How could she be short on money? Probably just trying to get my attention again. How boring.
Ji Yanli switched off his phone screen and continued working.
At the Ji family villa, after packing, Shu Xingruo called a moving service to send all her belongings to a second-hand luxury store. Although these items were expensive when bought, they depreciated heavily when resold, totaling only about five million yuan.
She calculated that with 80 million yuan in hand now, buying industrial land was within reach. After purchasing the land, she could approach the bank for a mortgage, securing future funds.
Today was Friday, and she planned to visit the planning bureau on Monday to inquire about available industrial land.
After leaving the second-hand luxury store, it was almost time to pick up Ji Zhixu, so Shu Xingruo went directly to the kindergarten.
At the international kindergarten entrance, luxury cars arrived one after another.
Just as Shu Xingruo parked, she saw Ji Yanli step out of his car wearing a tailored suit.
Ji Yanli noticed her too and frowned slightly. Shu Xingruo ignored him and stood far away at the gate, waiting for Ji Zhixu to come out.
Ji Yanli was relieved she was ignoring him—he hated interacting with her in public.
When Ji Zhixu appeared and saw both parents, he was thrilled. “Yay! Mom and Dad both came to pick me up! Let’s go eat!”

He held each of their hands happily as they walked.
That morning before school, Ji Zhixu had deliberately called Ji Yanli to ask him to pick him up. If he couldn’t keep his parents together, he would at least try to create moments when they were both present so that He Xin couldn’t interfere.
Ji Yanli was a little unhappy and said to Ji Zhixu, “Your mom is already here to pick you up. Why do you need me?”
Ji Zhixu pouted, “Did you pick me up off the street? Can’t you come get me?”
Just as he finished speaking, Ji Yanli’s phone rang.
“Ali, I just fell down and it hurts badly. Can you take me to the hospital?”
Ji Yanli’s expression turned tense. “Call 120 immediately. I’m coming to the hospital right now.”
Ji Zhixu frowned in displeasure. “Dad, why do you care so much about others? You’re not a doctor. What good does it do if you go?”
Shu Xingruo could guess it was He Xin calling. She used to feel heartache, but now she no longer cared.
Sure enough, Ji Yanli said, “Aunt Xin Xin fell. Dad has to go see her.”
Ji Zhixu angrily pulled his hand away. “Go then! Maybe if you go, she’ll get better faster.”
Ji Yanli ignored his unhappiness and left without looking back.
Shu Xingruo comforted the sulky Ji Zhixu, “Don’t be mad. Your dad doesn’t want to see me. Next time, ask him to take you out alone. He’ll take you out to play.”
Ji Zhixu was still upset. “You’re his wife. Why doesn’t he want to see you?”
Shu Xingruo said, “There’s an unsolvable knot between us. It can only be like this.”
Ji Zhixu sighed, and Shu Xingruo gently rubbed his little head. “Kids shouldn’t worry about adult matters.”
Then she took him to eat his favorite pizza. Lin Anhe, who didn’t have to work overtime, joined them.
As soon as Lin Anhe arrived, she pinched Ji Zhixu’s cheek. He frowned and said, “Aunt Lin, why do you always like pinching my face?”
Lin Anhe replied, “Because you’re so cute.”
She loved Ji Zhixu’s delicate, handsome little face the most.
After sitting down, Lin Anhe asked Shu Xingruo about her plans. “You said you were going to inherit the clinic at Hengzhitang. Why suddenly start a pharmaceutical factory?”
