Volume 1, Chapter 17: Lu Ning Is Bold and Brilliant
Lu Ning stood in the corridor, exchanging stares with her sixth brother.
Lu Liu, feeling his pride wounded, struck first: "Here to gloat? Is it funny? Are you satisfied now that you see everyone mocking our family team?"
Lu Ning replied with a cold face: "It’s because your skills are inferior."
At this moment, the members of the Tushan team arrived at the backcourt.
Lu Ning looked at the captain who had just spoken so rudely: "I have a question for you. Are you an orphan with no parents?"
The Tushan captain’s face darkened: "What do you mean by that?"
"Exactly what I said. Your mouth is so foul that I assumed your parents must have passed away a long time ago, leaving no one to teach you any manners."
"You brat, you dare say that again?"
Lu Ning’s words directly infuriated him.
She said coldly: "If you lose the upcoming match, you will publicly apologize to my parents in front of the reporters for the insults you just made!"
"We will lose? You are truly delusional!"
"Why? Too afraid to agree? Feeling guilty?"
Provoked by Lu Ning, the opponent took the bait: "Fine! But if you lose, your captain must also publicly apologize for what he just said!"
The Tushan team members stormed off with an aggressive air.
Lu Ning remained calm. She knew how to win.
However, the atmosphere within the Lutian team became somewhat awkward.
Lu Liu said irritably: "If we lose, you’re the one who will apologize. You aren't even a member of the team; who told you to make decisions on your own?"
"I only did it to make that guy apologize publicly, nothing more."
Just as Lu Ning finished speaking, Lu Nanfeng arrived, looking travel-worn: "Ningning, I’m so glad to see you standing here. Our family can finally be complete."
Lu Ning pursed her lips and said nothing.
Lu Nanfeng glanced around: "Where is Xiangxiang?"
Lu Liu’s expression stiffened: "I don't know. She ran off after I scolded her a bit."
The other team members spoke up: "Captain, Xiangxiang was just too eager to win the match, which is why she acted so rashly. You can't blame her for that."
"That's right, Captain. Xiangxiang is such a hardworking girl; she’s often still at her computer training in the middle of the night. She really tried her best."
"Captain, what you said earlier was truly a bit excessive."
Lu Liu felt extremely aggrieved.
What did they mean he was excessive?
It was Qin Xiang who insisted on joining the team for the match. Without natural talent, she obviously had to put in a lot of effort.
But it was clear that Qin Xiang had no talent for this.
When Qin Xiang made a mistake earlier, as the captain, couldn't he say a few words?
Lu Ning echoed the team members' sentiments: "That’s right. Qin Xiang has worked so hard, even neglecting her studies. Why did you scold her, Sixth Brother? You might just lose a match, but Qin Xiang has lost her self-esteem."
Lu Liu was nearly driven to madness.
What was going on?
Why did everyone think it was his fault when it was clearly Qin Xiang who was being unreasonable?
Lu Nanfeng also looked at Lu Liu: "Old Sixth, you really need to change your temper. Ningning used to be so good to you, and yet you scolded her until her heart was broken. Do you want to drive Xiangxiang away with your scolding, too?"
"Second Brother, this is not the same thing at all. It was clearly Qin Xiang who..."
"Enough. I watched the live stream clearly. You were the one who led everyone into that trap; as the captain, you are the one who should take responsibility. Xiangxiang only made a mistake because she was too anxious."
Lu Liu felt a wave of helplessness.
No matter what he said, his Second Brother refused to believe him!
Lu Ning watched coldly from the side. She was finally letting her sixth brother experience what she had felt: being slandered and misunderstood, with no one to listen to her side.
Doesn't it feel bad?
Lu Nanfeng tried calling Qin Xiang, but she didn't answer.
He spoke directly: "Let’s forget about her for now and discuss the match."
Lu Ning interjected: "If you want to win this match, you must follow my lead for everything that follows."
Lu Liu was the first to object: "On what grounds?"
Lu Ning’s eyes were dark: "Because I have a way to win."
Lu Ning was exceptionally calm as she laid out her ideas and plans.
Having watched the match earlier, she had gained a general understanding of the Lutian team members. She had trained with them in the past, so she knew them well.
"Anyone can talk big. Don't think you're invincible just because you have some talent. You haven't trained at all during this time; what gives you the confidence that you can win?"
Lu Ning pursed her lips: "If you don't follow my command, I’m withdrawing from the match."
Lu Liu scoffed: "Withdraw then! Do you think you're that important?"
Lu Nanfeng quickly interjected: "If no one else has any other ideas, then let’s follow Ningning’s lead."
No matter how unwilling Lu Liu was, he couldn't say anything, as they truly had no other options.
The match soon resumed.
Lu Ning sat in Qin Xiang’s seat.
This was the seat she had occupied in her previous life.
As she put on her headset again, her gaze became much more resolute. She was no longer fighting to please her sixth brother.
She was playing for herself.
The Lutian team’s last-minute substitution caused a small stir.
Ji Qiqian stood before a window on the second floor, watching the girl who was focused on the match.
Gu Zifeng remarked: "Didn't you say she was just here to watch the chaos? In the end, she still joined the match. In her eyes, even after being treated so unfairly by her family, they are still more important."
"You're wrong. She’s doing this for herself now."
Ji Qiqian understood why she had joined the match.
It was definitely not to please Lu Liu.
The brilliance she displayed now belonged to her alone.
The match began, and the host started the commentary: "There’s been a small twist for the Lutian team, with a slight adjustment in their lineup. This player looks a bit unfamiliar, and it's unclear how strong she is. The situation for the Lutian team is far from optimistic; how will they manage to break through?"
Lu Ning entered the game. The character class Qin Xiang had been playing was the same one she used to play—a Ranged Gunner.
She was able to pick it up quickly.
Lu Ning had already set up a formation, waiting for the enemies to surround them.
But at a critical moment, Lu Liu impulsively charged out, exposing their position.
Lu Ning cursed under her breath: "What are you doing?"
"Don't worry about me, I can break through on my own!"
Lu Liu rushed out, desperate to prove himself, only to be pinned down and crushed by the opponents.
Lu Ning wasn't surprised at all.
She immediately ordered: "Support, cover me! Everyone else, stick to the original plan."
She charged out from behind a high wall, her cannon in hand, and opened fire on the enemy.
Her figure weaved through the buildings, appearing sporadically to attack and completely disrupting the opponents' rhythm.
The host said excitedly: "My goodness, this Gunner’s movements are incredible! They are very seasoned—nothing like a rookie’s play, but rather that of a veteran."
"She stopped suddenly and dodged the opponent’s ultimate skill. How did she predict their move?"
"Look! She’s charging out, performing a mid-air double jump, and landing a twelve-hit combo! These are moves that only the legendary King could pull off. A rookie can suddenly reach this level? This is unbelievable!"
The entire arena was in an uproar, the crowd absolutely electrified!
The great King was a god in the hearts of everyone present!
Although the legend had retired years ago, his myth remained.
What was the connection between this rookie girl and the great King?
