Chapter 55: Bairmose
Zhang Changde was no longer the wretched figure he had been when Sun Yumin drove him out of the Twentieth Division. Now, as the commander of a collaborationist army brigade, not only did a gleaming gold star adorn his epaulet, but even his speech carried the arrogance of a seasoned traitor. With the pulseless grass in hand, and the rare herbs from Xu Yin, Liu Hao would be able to heal all his wounds within three days.
Chen Xuanwu instinctively glanced out the window. Since the helicopter was not flying very high, he was able to identify their location at once by a few distinctive geographical features. Qian Cai’s cold and beautiful face broke into a sudden laugh at his words, and the fury in her eyes as she glared at Fang Lu in the distance softened instantly.
Wei Wei leaned forward slightly, listening intently, while across from him, Cao Ningjun glanced at the documents in his hand. The files on the cruise ship Tianxing were not extensive, so he shifted his attention to Wei Baiying.
Butcher’s grave warnings, unaccompanied by any persuasive reasons, left everyone feeling bewildered.
Wei Chen’s gaze remained unchanged. Without hesitation, he stepped forward under Fang Lu’s horrified stare, his two fingers extended once more, killing intent thick in the air.
“Is your grandfather some kind of prophet?” Hua Guan fixed his eyes on Qian Cai’s delicate, luminous face and asked.
However, before the ten or fifteen minutes had even passed, Butcher, who had been chatting amiably with the drunken concubine, was shaken by an unexpected system notification.
“In the end, we must capture Wei Chen and use him as bait. It seems we cannot let Wei Chen die at the hands of the Jiaoque Dynasty. Otherwise, we lose our chance to control Wei Feng!” Ximen Muwu frowned slightly as he spoke.
When the middle-aged man finally turned around, Yi Yang realized it was Director Liu from the logistics department. Running into Director Liu here felt like an ill-fated encounter. Yi Yang decided to hide in the car until Director Liu had left, so as to avoid any trouble.
The sky darkened entirely as crimson magma surged from the fissures in the ground, and beneath the newly formed canyon, a river of lava appeared.
“Kill him!” Madame Lily spoke decisively, though when she said it, her heart seemed weighed down with sorrow.
“Damn, another drill? These guys have way too much time on their hands.” Wang Dongsheng put down the high-powered binoculars, took some compressed biscuits and a canteen from his backpack, and muttered with a shake of his head.
“Hmph! Don’t think you’re safe just because you survived the torture,” the lieutenant spat, flicking the safety on and tucking his gun into his belt as he strode from the interrogation room.
Perhaps some hidden pride was stirred, or perhaps his cutting words brought her shame—whatever the reason, she struck him in a moment of weakness.
Left speechless, Qin Tian could only hold Gongsun Qingxue tightly, hoping to ease his deep sense of guilt, if only a little.
Wu Xuanming sensed something was wrong and dared not let the other man get close. He delivered a fierce kick, knocking the mad patient to the ground again. Not wanting to give him a chance to get up, Wu Xuanming quickly sealed several of his acupoints.
Yi Kui, seeing Hu Zhongdong’s hesitation, stopped beating around the bush. Still, it was hard to bring up—awkward and embarrassing. In the end, Yi Kui recounted the entire story in detail, knowing it concerned the future of the Golden Dog Gang.
“If you want her dead, then come at me!” Yun Feiyang glared at Ye Jianfei and Jun’er, his wild laughter sending a chill through everyone present.
“Meiling, how are you so strong? You climbed this steep mountain without even getting out of breath,” Xiaowei gasped.
Zhu Tianhuo’s departure left the others in silence, all of them glancing at Xiao Yan with strange expressions. Like Yuan Tianmu, their hearts were already in turmoil.
“Sometimes, I wonder whether he truly sees me as a chess piece—used when needed, discarded without hesitation.” The “he” in question was, of course, Lord An, his biological father who had abandoned him.
The emperor listened, then slowly turned his gaze to Rong Wanxi, astonishment filling his eyes. Could it be that Jun Ziye meant Wanxi had not gone to care for her second brother? That she had stayed on the frontier all this time, not to look after him, but because Jun Ziye himself had been tending to him?
Yue Huai saw that Prince Chen merely sipped his tea in silence and felt oddly reassured that there would be no retribution.
Seeing Xiao Yan trapped, Lei Shan laughed heartily. Though the Thunder Dragon Prison was weak in attack, its true strength as a high-level imperial technique lay in its power to confine the enemy.
Standing at the door, Song Yazhu watched her husband skillfully change their son’s diaper, wash his bottom, and apply baby bath lotion. An overwhelming sense of love for her husband welled up in her chest.
Hong Yi’s tone shifted, becoming firm and resolute, his words no longer expressing a mere wish, but a determined will.
He was filled with dissatisfaction, yet had nowhere to vent it. He tried everything he could, using each touch between them to erase the scent left by Princess Qiao Qiao’s kiss. His forcefulness towards her was nothing more than a way to let his familiar, beloved scent cling to his body again.
All he could do was listen as Yin Junchao animatedly recounted every detail of what had just transpired.
