Chapter 123: Fall in Love, and the Whole World Becomes My Rival (23)
At two in the morning, the light in the small room was still on. Fu Huai had been led into the bathroom to take a bath and changed into clean clothes. Now he sat obediently on a chair, his clear, beautiful eyes fixed on Bai Yao, while his nearly recovered hand popped strawberries into his mouth one by one, taking a bite each time. He only bit the tips of the strawberries, and only took a small bite at that. If he found a strawberry sweet, he would offer the sweetest tip to Bai Yao's lips; if it wasn't sweet, he would shove the whole thing into his mouth. Bai Yao was tending to his wounds. Earlier, when she had helped him upstairs, she could feel that many bones in his body were fractured or broken, and the joints of his limbs were horrifyingly twisted. She even had the illusion that he might fall apart at any moment. But now, as she treated him, many of his injuries had already healed significantly. Such severe wounds would have cost an ordinary person half their life, yet he would probably be bouncing around energetically before long. Bai Yao touched his left hand; the bones inside were broken. She asked, "Does it hurt?" Fu Huai nodded. "It hurts." Bai Yao knew that under normal circumstances, she should take him for a full-body checkup and get some scans to see what was wrong inside, but his body was healing at an inhuman rate. If she took him out, he might be captured and studied as a test subject. Although Bai Yao worked at a hospital, she was only a nurse. Even if she wanted to sneak him in for a scan, she didn't have the authority, as every department was strictly managed by dedicated personnel. If she sneaked in to do anything, she would implicate those in charge. Bai Yao frowned deeply, when suddenly a cool touch grazed her lips—a bright red strawberry tip was offered to her mouth. The young man smiled and said, "Yaoyao, eat." His white hair was still slightly damp, not completely dry, yet he insisted on clipping that pink hairpin on his head. When he came out of the bath, he had kept looking at himself in a small mirror for a long time. Bai Yao bit off the strawberry, then leaned in close to him and kissed him. The sweet, rich strawberry juice mingled with their shared breath, making it hard to tell what was truly sweet. Fu Huai wanted to hug her with his unhealed hand, but Bai Yao firmly held it down to stop him from moving, so he could only lower his head as much as possible to press closer to her. In the end, he thoroughly claimed every last drop of strawberry juice from her mouth. Bai Yao pulled back slightly, her eyes reflecting his image with gentle tenderness. "If it hurts, just kiss me." Fu Huai chuckled softly, rubbing his face against hers. "Okay." Bai Yao reached out and gently touched the side of his face. This half of his face was covered in scars that had already scabbed over, and the wounds had healed somewhat, giving a glimpse of just how severely injured his face had been before.
Bai Yao asked, "Did you fall?" He nodded, then turned his face to kiss her hand. His current state was much like a clingy puppy; he was so attached that it was as if he had fallen into some inexplicable stress disorder. Bai Yao said softly, "Be careful from now on. You can't get hurt like this again." He pressed his forehead against hers, his dark eyes locked onto her face. "Yaoyao, I missed you." That was why he had been in such a rush on the road, just to see her sooner. Bai Yao was silent for a moment, then pointed to the chemicals on the table. "Those things are dangerous. Don't carry them with you from now on. If a bottle breaks, you'll get hurt." Fu Huai's eyes darted around, and he obediently murmured, "Oh." Bai Yao cupped his face and kissed the corner of his lips. "Alright, let's go to sleep." Fu Huai followed her to bed with a slight limp. Even after the lights were out and the dim room made it impossible to see anything clearly, he still stared energetically at Bai Yao, who lay on the inside. He mumbled softly, "Yaoyao, I want sweet and sour pork ribs." Bai Yao tucked the blanket around him. "If the cafeteria has them tomorrow, I'll bring you some." He smiled with pressed lips and moved closer to her, asking softly, "Yaoyao, can we do it?" Bai Yao glanced at him. "You're still injured. Can you stop thinking about that?" Fu Huai lowered his head in disappointment, falling silent. Finally, he quieted down. Bai Yao was about to close her eyes and sleep when she heard occasional muffled sobs from beside her. He was trying hard to suppress his sadness so as not to disturb her sleep, but the sorrow was overwhelming. His body trembled slightly, and even with his head buried in the blanket, he couldn't help but let out a few sniffling sounds. Bai Yao sighed inwardly. She turned on her side, and her hand under the blanket slowly slid down from his waist. Fu Huai's whimpering paused. He opened his tear-filled eyes and stared blankly at the girl beside him. She said, "Your injuries haven't healed. Don't move." So she would do it for him.
Fu Huai was still a bit dazed until her hand increased its pressure, and he let out a comfortable moan. The next day, Bai Yao went to work with dark circles under her eyes. Fortunately, her workload was relatively light, only needing to watch over a few patients. The rain had paused, and the long-unseen sun made an appearance. Bai Yao took the patients outside to sunbathe. The patients thought they were mushrooms in a field, squatting quietly on the grass in the breeze, being very well-behaved. Bai Yao sat on a bench, covering her mouth as she yawned. Staff members walked by, chatting. "I wonder if it's because the wind and rain were too strong last night, but a window in one of the labs in the research building was smashed. I heard it was Dr. Ma's lab." Another person whispered, "I heard that too. I wonder what kind of experiment Dr. Ma was doing. They say his lab is a total mess, and no one can make sense of the experimental data." They just chatted casually for a few sentences before walking away. It was a pleasant afternoon, but an unwelcome visitor arrived. Huo Ruanruan's hand had almost fully healed. She walked straight up to Bai Yao and asked directly, "Bai Yao, are you sure you haven't seen my second brother?" Bai Yao said lazily, "No." Huo Ruanruan pressed, "My second brother's attitude toward you was so strange before. He's been missing for so long, are you telling me he hasn't come looking for you?" Bai Yao replied, "I've already said it once. I haven't seen him. You've been searching for so long and haven't found him. Who knows if he went down the mountain?" Huo Ruanruan's first reaction was that it was impossible. The road down the mountain wasn't open yet; how could Huo Zhiyuan have gone down? But then she thought again. They had searched the hospital and the surrounding area for a long time without finding a single trace of Huo Zhiyuan. Plus, he was currently not in his right mind, so his actions couldn't be predicted by common sense. What if he really did walk down the mountain and got into danger?
