Chapter 126: When Falling in Love, the Whole World Becomes My Rival (26)

Huo Mingyuan had asked everyone in the hospital, yet no one knew the whereabouts of his younger brother. The only person he hadn’t questioned yet was this young boy. He approached him and said, “Hey, I need to ask you something.”
Startled by the sound, the boy crouching on the ground lifted his face. Gentle sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting dappled patterns upon him. His face was strikingly beautiful, features delicate and refined, with a single tear mole that held an indescribable charm and allure.
Huo Mingyuan was no stranger to beauty, but he had never seen anyone so uniquely captivating. His heart began to race wildly, a sensation even stronger than when he first laid eyes on the boy. He felt an inexplicable sensation that his eyes, his heart, and even his body no longer belonged to him.
His reason warned him that this was wrong—he could not possibly be feeling desire toward someone of the same sex. Yet emotionally, he could not control his feelings; his gaze remained fixed on the boy, unable to look away.
Suddenly, the boy laughed—a sharp, cutting laugh filled with scorn. His eyes brimmed with arrogant disdain, as if all the people in the world were filthy, lowly creatures. “Disgusting clown, get lost. You’re blocking my sunlight.”
Huo Mingyuan’s heart pounded even faster.
The sun set, the moon rose, and night descended.
Bai Yao had just put down the lunchbox when she heard the door open from outside. Fu Huai bounced into the room, “Yaoyao, I’m home!”
He looked just like an elementary school child excitedly telling his parents he was back from vacation.
Bai Yao asked, “Where did you go to play?”
Fu Huai ran over and hugged her, smiling sweetly, “Today I saw a crawling creature, and, out of boredom, I teased it a little.”
Bai Yao pulled him toward the sink, curious, “How did you tease it?”
Fu Huai obediently put his hands under the faucet, scrubbing them for her. His expression was self-satisfied. “Those stupid, ignorant, ugly, disgusting, filthy lowlifes—if you so much as glance at them, they cling to you like glue.”
After washing the backs of his hands, Bai Yao turned them over. Palms up, Fu Huai proudly said, “If it could offer me its most precious thing, maybe I’d spare it a few glances.”
He laughed venomously, “Ridiculous. The stupid crawling creature took me seriously. I was just joking—I have no interest in their precious things! I’m too lazy to even look at that disgusting maggot again!”
The boy’s face was strikingly beautiful, yet his expression when speaking was filled with arrogance and haughtiness. His allure was matched only by the evil and ugliness within.
He was nothing but a scoundrel who delighted in toying with hearts and belittling others. Naturally, he knew he possessed an irresistible charm to others, so he abused his beauty to do as he pleased.
He never cared about the consequences.
It seemed he was born this way—attracting others while dragging them into a bloodied abyss, only to be torn apart by this malice himself.
No matter how many times he endured such experiences, he never restrained himself.
As humans reproduce through marriage and animals through mating, he also propagated in a special way.
Humans can control their desires, but animals lack such awareness—they act on instinct to reproduce.

Even in such inhuman tribes, they cannot change this instinct.
Bai Yao was lost in thought when Fu Huai held out his hands to her, seeking inspection. “Yaoyao, I’m clean now. Can I eat?”
Not only his palms and backs of hands, but even between each fingernail was spotless.
Bai Yao nodded and turned off the water, “Alright, let’s eat.”
Fu Huai beamed with joy and happily ran to the table. Today’s favorite dish was sweet and sour pork ribs, and Bai Yao had picked the meatiest ribs for him to enjoy.
Bai Yao rested her chin in her hands, watching him eat for a long moment before saying suddenly, “I want to take the township health clinic’s exam.”
Fu Huai spit out a bone and tilted his head, “Why?”
He knew how hard Bai Yao had worked to get first place for the Lushan Hospital job because the salary and benefits were excellent.
But the clinics in those townships surely had poorer environments—and probably were located in very remote places.
Bai Yao answered, “I’ve got my eye on a place—a remote, sparsely populated town. Though the salary is low and transportation inconvenient, there are fewer people and fewer tasks. It should be a relaxed life. When we have free time, I’ll take you wandering in the fields, watching the clouds above and the wildflowers below. That kind of life isn’t bad.”
Fu Huai stared at her blankly.
Bai Yao smiled, “What’s wrong? Don’t you like it? Or do you prefer the bustling big city?”
Fu Huai fell into an unprecedented confusion. He felt something and was afraid, but then warmth wrapped him like love.
His lips moved lightly, “Yaoyao…”
She said, “Hmm?”
He lowered his gaze, hiding the trembling moisture in his eyes. “Am I a burden to you?”
Bai Yao answered decisively, “Yes.”
Fu Huai pressed his lips together, poking at the ribs in his lunchbox with chopsticks as if to distract himself from tears.
Bai Yao spoke with a resigned tone, “But who told me I like you as a burden? I shouldn’t have told you we were dating in the first place. Now look, I can’t get rid of you.”
Fu Huai looked up with a pout, “I’m not going to let you dump me!”
The boy who had just been quietly sad and wiping away tears now looked full of life again.
Bai Yao smiled, her eyes curved, “That’s right, you’re stuck with me. I’ll just have to keep spoiling you.”
Fu Huai wanted to keep pretending to be angry to make her realize he was mad, but hearing that, his pursed lips couldn’t help but curve into a smile. His joy was impossible to hide.
He lowered his head to continue eating, not wanting her to see his weak side, but his ears almost perked up to catch every word she said.
She said, “The town I picked has beautiful wheat fields, and prices aren’t high. I want to save money so if we get used to life there, we can build a small house, maybe plant strawberries in the yard…”
In the future she spoke of, he was definitely included.

Fu Huai’s head lowered further. Though he tried hard to control himself, the sound of him sniffing escaped. A tear dropped onto the table. He quickly wiped it away, pretending nothing had happened.
But more tears soon fell.
His hands were reddened from wiping when someone grasped his hand.
Bai Yao smiled, “Want a hug?”
Fu Huai dropped his chopsticks quickly and buried his face in her embrace.
He was a tall boy, yet bent over as if trying to shrink into a ball, squeezed into her arms like a lost, pitiful young beast who had just found his way home.
A wanderer repeatedly reborn amidst the world’s malice suddenly found someone crossing the darkness to hold him, offering unconditional love and tenderness.
So overwhelmed with happiness he felt he might die, he greedily clung to her affection. For the first time, he felt despair toward his instinct that thrived on death.
Fu Huai dared not look up. He murmured, “Yaoyao, Yaoyao, Yaoyao…”
Bai Yao cupped his face.
His eyes were misty and fragile, seeming ready to shatter at any moment. He said, “I like you so much, so so so much—”
Bai Yao whispered, “I know.”
“I don’t want to give you to anyone else. I don’t want to die.”
Bai Yao stroked his head, “Then you have to restrain yourself from now on. Work hard to live, stay by my side.”
Fu Huai rested his head on her shoulder and blinked once. “I will definitely live.”
Bai Yao touched his soft hair, giving him a sense of safety.
After a while, he said, “Yaoyao, can we do it tonight…”
Bai Yao interrupted, “I’m on my period.”
He lowered his gaze in disappointment.
Bai Yao said, “But if you don’t refuse to eat your vegetables today and finish all the greens, I might consider helping you in other ways.”
He brightened instantly, no longer hugging her, grabbed his lunchbox and chopsticks, and stuffed everything—greens and hated green peppers alike—into his mouth.
Bai Yao propped her chin with one hand, eyes curved as she watched him.
Though sometimes immature enough to make her exasperated, he was truly easy to please.
Yes, quite adorable.
