Chapter 175: My Childhood Sweetheart Can't Possibly Be an Idiot! (11)

Bai Yao dreamed that she had returned to the year she graduated from high school.
On the day of the graduation party, many of the students who had already come of age confessed their feelings to the people they secretly admired, unwilling to leave any regrets behind. The entire campus reeked of romance.
As the school’s universally acknowledged beauty, Bai Yao had assumed that she would receive a confession too. Yet not a single boy came to seek her out. When all was said and done, it was because a dangerous young man had always been at her side.
There was no moon that night, and before long, a light rain began to fall. It certainly could not be called pleasant weather.
Bai Yao walked along beneath an umbrella, then glanced back at the person following her.
The young man walked through the hazy rain. His tall stature made him impossible to miss, and he did not care in the slightest that the white uniform on his body was being soaked through.
His wet white T-shirt clung closely to him, tracing the beautiful lines of his body. The muscles along his waist and abdomen appeared and disappeared beneath the fabric. He truly possessed a young and powerful physique.
“Why aren’t you using an umbrella?” Bai Yao asked.
Ever since they had gone up the mountain together in middle school and been trapped overnight in a little cabin when it rained, she had developed the habit of checking the weather forecast every morning. Before leaving that day, she had specifically reminded him to bring an umbrella.
Qi Ye took an umbrella with broken ribs from his shoulder bag. Heaven only knew where he had gone wild this time to ruin a perfectly good umbrella.
There was nothing Bai Yao could do with him. “Come here.”
Qi Ye hurried over. She raised the hand holding her umbrella high enough to cover the tall boy’s head, but it was not long before her arm grew tired.
“You hold it.”
Qi Ye took the umbrella from her and moved closer. The red umbrella tilted toward her, shielding her from the wind and rain.
Bai Yao naturally slipped her arm through his. Looking up at him, she asked, “What are you going to do after graduation?”
Qi Ye hated studying, and his grades were a complete disaster. Even when he managed to sit properly in the classroom, he had to be beside Bai Yao. He never listened to the lessons; he simply stared at her the entire time.
Whenever she went to the bathroom, he followed behind and waited for her outside the women’s restroom.
Although romantic relationships did exist at school, boys at that age were not yet thick-skinned enough. Other than Qi Ye, who could stand outside the women’s restroom with such perfect composure, there truly was not a second boy capable of doing the same.
During school holidays, Bai Yao would sit in her room solving practice problems while Qi Ye sprawled on her bed playing video games. Sometimes they would not exchange a single word for several hours, but getting him to leave her room was impossible.

It was as though being in her room somehow improved his gaming skills.
Qi Ye’s results in the college entrance examination were truly abysmal, while Bai Yao had never intended to lower her standards and attend just any university.
In other words, once she went to college, the two of them would certainly no longer be able to cling to each other as they had before.
That was why Bai Yao asked what he planned to do after graduation.
Qi Ye lowered his eyes to look at her without blinking.
After a moment, with Bai Yao completely unprepared, he lowered his head and shortened the distance between them. Yet when his lips were still a little way from hers, he stopped.
The young man’s dark, lustrous eyes watched her, as though observing whether she would find him repulsive.
They were so close that they seemed able to hear each other’s breathing. Both their breaths were scorching hot.
Bai Yao rose onto her toes and touched his slightly cool lips.
Qi Ye immediately placed one hand against the back of her head and parted his lips, pushing his way into a deeper entanglement with her.
There was no confession and no flowers. Just like that, they naturally became a couple.
Bai Yao had fallen for the boy closest at hand, and she felt embarrassed for a while. She did not dare tell her parents, so throughout that summer, she and Qi Ye secretly spent their time together.
On the day of Qi Ye’s eighteenth birthday, Bai Yao deliberately waited until midnight had passed before quietly slipping into his room, intending to give him a surprise.
Contrary to her expectations, in the unlit room she seemed to see the young man lying on the bed emitting a faint, dark-red glow. It vanished in an instant, making her wonder if she had merely imagined it.
The figure curled up on the bed let out a strained, helpless moan.
Thinking that he was ill and suffering, Bai Yao hurriedly turned on the light. She then found herself staring wide-eyed at the young man on the bed, while the atmosphere descended into awkwardness.
Qi Ye’s clothes were intact from the waist up, but his trousers had been thrown into the corner of the bed. His back was braced against the headboard, and one hand clutched her pink hair clip tightly. It took her a long time to remember that she had lost that hair clip after fighting with him in elementary school.
His other hand was hidden below the line of his hips.

He had not expected her to barge in. His eyes were reddened by arousal and filled with flustered helplessness, reminding her of a young animal startled in the forest, desperate to hide in its nest and conceal the filth covering its body.
Bai Yao had not felt afraid or disgusted at the time. The only thought she had, after her gaze drifted downward, was an exclamation of astonishment:
This fellow’s growth had been terrifyingly fast!
Temporarily bewitched by his beauty, Bai Yao threw herself at him with reckless abandon, and afterward, things spiraled completely out of control.
She hid until the following day, only sneaking out of his room once her parents had gone out to buy Qi Ye a cake.
It was not that she had not wanted to escape sooner. There had simply been an unavoidable obstacle—just as would happen many times afterward, whenever he became too excited... he would get stuck.
Bai Yao secretly searched through a great deal of information, but in the end found no reliable explanation. All she could say was that he had been blessed with extraordinary natural gifts.
But it did not matter that he was different from ordinary people. As it turned out, her discerning eyes had not failed her. She had not missed her destined boyfriend!
Of course he was her destined boyfriend. He even glowed!
No—she ought to call him her husband now.
They had been far too wild the day before, and Bai Yao was still drowsy today.
Qi Ye had been driving for a long time. They had stopped to rest at a service station along the way, but the farther they traveled along the highway, the more sparsely populated the surroundings became.
Gradually, the peaks of distant mountains came into view.
The temperature had dropped considerably. The heater was running inside the car, and Bai Yao had Qi Ye’s coat draped over her as well. She did not know how long she had dozed, but when she saw the desolate landscape outside, she murmured sleepily, “What kind of hobbies does your grandfather have, living in such a remote place?”
By rights, an elderly man in poor health ought to retire somewhere warm, should he not? This grandfather she had never met was doing the exact opposite. His constitution must be remarkably strong if he was not afraid of the cold.
And instead of calling everyone back to the old family home, he had come to this frigid, snow-covered mountain. However she looked at it, the whole thing seemed strange.
