Bai Yao spoke with emotion, “I didn’t expect you all to go through so much trouble because of me. I was actually planning to invite the neighbors myself. Since everyone’s here, let me just invite you all directly—please join the party tomorrow night!”

The driver turned and wiped his mouth before asking, “We’re really allowed to come to the party?”

Lu Sheng shot him a glance and said nothing.

Bai Yao smiled, “Lu Sheng said he grew up here, and I’m sure he’s received plenty of your care over the years. I want to thank you all together with him—you’re all such good people!”

A heavy silence fell.

Bai Yao looked back at Lu Sheng. “You feel the same way, don’t you?”

Lu Sheng’s eyes misted over. So, Bai Yao was only willing to invite these odd-looking people for his sake. He gripped Bai Yao’s hand, his lips trembling as he choked out a soft “Mm.”

Bai Yao grinned. “Then let’s throw a lively costume party tomorrow!”

And with that, the matter was decided.

Bai Yao personally saw the guests out, giving Xiao Xiong’s head an affectionate pat on the way. Xiao Xiong scratched his head, beginning to understand why people whispered that Bai Yao was a beautiful oddity.

She really does deserve to be in love!

When the guests had gone, Bai Yao closed the door and turned to face Lu Sheng, whose eyes were reddened. Folding her arms, she scrutinized him for a long while.

Lu Sheng resembled a timid, anxious young wife, fidgeting as if wanting to ask something but not daring to.

Bai Yao walked past him and sat on the sofa, sighing, “My legs feel a bit sore.”

Lu Sheng immediately knelt beside her and started massaging her legs.

Soon after, Bai Yao said, “My shoulders hurt too.”

He scrambled to his feet and moved behind her to knead her shoulders.

Lu Sheng gazed at Bai Yao with wide, anxious eyes, as if terrified she might say something he couldn’t handle. He dared not utter a word, only busied himself in her service, while Bai Yao, squinting in satisfaction, enjoyed being pampered like a landowner, and he was the hardworking housewife at her mercy.

Just as Lu Sheng’s nerves were stretched taut, Bai Yao suddenly said, “My lips feel a little sore too.”

Lu Sheng instinctively ran to her side, but when he stared at her rosy lips, he hesitated, unsure if he should use his hands, and looked at her pitifully, not daring to move.

Bai Yao reached out, pulled him onto the sofa, then straddled him, cupping his face and kissing him passionately.

She said, “We’ve been apart for two hours and thirty-five minutes—I missed you so much!”

Lu Sheng’s breathing immediately grew ragged. “Yao Yao, I missed you too!”

Following her lead, he rolled her beneath him and kissed her deeply, coaxing her lips apart with a voice that made her weak. In an instant, their breaths mingled, burning and inseparable.

Bai Yao had weekend homework—an essay to write. With Lu Sheng around, there was no way she could concentrate, so she shooed him back to his own room. Only then did Lu Sheng remember he had a short meeting to attend.

Reality, however, did not match his expectations.

Bai Yao slipped out without a word and crouched beneath his window, watching for who knows how long. Lu Sheng’s heart nearly leapt out of his throat, but fortunately, Bai Yao’s only thought was to be close to him—she paid no mind to anything else.

Lu Sheng was deeply moved. Overcome with emotion, his hand slipped beneath her skirt, but Bai Yao kicked him.

“No,” she said.

Lu Sheng looked at her, eyes shining, and pressed her hand to his abs, guiding it lower along the line of his hips. “Yao Yao, I’ll take good care of you.”

He knew she had no resistance against his powerful physique, especially his abs.

But today, Bai Yao was unmoved by his charms. She sighed, “This homework is so difficult. I can’t write it—I’m not in the mood.”

Lu Sheng’s eyes drooped with disappointment. He was far from ascetic; his desire for her was overwhelming. But if she wasn’t in the mood, he would never force her.

He smoothed the wrinkles on her skirt and gently raised her fallen strap, nuzzling her neck indulgently.

Bai Yao held his head in her arms, her fair fingers threading through his tousled orange hair. With a mischievous smile, she said, “If you help me finish my homework, maybe I’ll be in the mood!”

Lu Sheng sat up at once. “Where’s the homework?”

Bai Yao gave him the essay topic and requirements. Lu Sheng darted into the study and fired up the computer. While he wrote feverishly, Bai Yao lay in her bedroom messaging her classmates:

“Tomorrow’s a costume party! If you’re coming, prepare in advance. By the way, you’re welcome to visit my house, but don’t disturb my neighbors. If anything happens, I won’t be responsible!”

As the true queen bee, her message was instantly acknowledged in the group chat.

Their only goal was to visit Bai Yao’s house—no one would bother going anywhere else.

Bai Yao took a short nap. When she woke, stretching lazily, she noticed a corner of fabric peeking from her wardrobe door. Lu Sheng really was careless, she thought, as she got up to tuck it back in.

But as soon as she touched the wardrobe door, the overstuffed contents burst out, knocking her over so that she sat on the floor, instantly buried by a mountain of things.

After the avalanche finally subsided and everything had spilled out, Bai Yao struggled free, her face dazed as she surveyed the heap around her.

She picked up the topmost item and found it was a pillow printed with her photo.

Expressionless, she stared at it.

“Yao Yao, I’m done!” Lu Sheng came running down the hall, burst through the door, and met Bai Yao’s eyes where she sat buried in the pile. Instantly, his face fell, body stiffening in shock.

Bai Yao looked away and calmly rummaged through the pile—pillows, blankets, stuffed toys—all in shades of white and pink, all printed with her photo. Amidst this sea of girlish colors, she found something unusual.

A black robe. A white mask shaped like a death god’s face.

Bai Yao pondered for a moment. When she looked up, Lu Sheng had disappeared from the doorway.

She crawled out from the pile and went to the hallway, where she found him huddled in a corner.

Clutching himself, Lu Sheng’s body trembled. He could sense Bai Yao’s presence, but dared not look up. When he heard her footsteps, he instinctively reached for her but only dared to grasp at the hem of her skirt.

“Yao Yao…” He raised his pale face, those usually bright, energetic eyes now clouded with mist. “I’m sorry. I—I didn’t want this, but I can’t control myself… Please don’t leave me.”

He was a stalker, a lurking shadow, a deranged and obsessive admirer.

He really was that disgusting, that twisted. His cheerful, sunny persona was only a mask he had painstakingly crafted.

Because he knew, no one would ever love a freak.

Bai Yao watched him for a long moment. After a gentle sigh, she suddenly beamed and exclaimed, “Lu Sheng, we must be soulmates! I was just thinking of throwing a costume party, and you’ve already prepared all this!”

In her hands were the dangerous-looking white mask and black robe.

Lu Sheng blinked, lashes heavy with tears, looking utterly pitiful.

Bai Yao squatted down and handed him the costume. “Put it on for me!”

Lu Sheng was confused. “Yao Yao?”

Bai Yao smiled, radiant and innocent. “Didn’t I promise you? If you finished my homework, I’d be in the mood.”

Lu Sheng glanced at the items in her hands, still bewildered. “But why do you want me to wear this?”

Wouldn’t she find it scary?

Bai Yao’s face grew stern. “Are you going to put it on or not?”

Lu Sheng nodded hastily. “I’ll put it on!”

A few minutes later, he was transformed.

The black robe made his tall figure look even more striking, his legs long and straight. The twisted white mask hid his features in a terrifying, ghostly way. Bai Yao stood on tiptoe to pull up his hood, nodding in approval. “You really do look like a crazed serial killer.”

The masked man hung his head, nervously picking at his nails.

But the next moment, Bai Yao dashed into the room.

Lu Sheng was certain she despised him now. Of course she’d be afraid. He hung his head, eyes dark beneath the mask, sniffling quietly.

“Hey, why are you still outside?”

Lu Sheng looked up.

Bai Yao poked her head out of the door, urging him, “Come on in! I’m really in the mood now!”

Lu Sheng edged forward uncertainly, then froze again. “Yao Yao…”

Bai Yao pulled him inside, and the bedroom door shut. Sounds of someone being thrown onto the bed could be heard.

The boy’s voice, broken and gasping: “Yao Yao… wait… you want me to wear this…”

He suddenly choked on a moan.

The girl laughed wickedly. “I only wanted you to wear it so I could take it off myself.”

“W-Why… Yao Yao, please, don’t—don’t do this, I can’t take it…”

“Because it feels so exciting!” Her voice was brimming with irrepressible excitement. “It’s really thrilling! Don’t move, let me do it!”

Only a few minutes later, her voice was much weaker. “I’m out of strength. Forget it, you take over.”

If there was ever a saying for someone whose skills were lacking but whose desires were boundless, it surely fit her.

Time slipped by, the sun set and the moon rose.

The bedroom was a scene of wild disarray.

Bai Yao lay atop Lu Sheng, drowsy and content. Her thoughts drifted between planning tomorrow’s party and marveling at how physical exertion was truly good for body and soul.

Lu Sheng stroked her hair gently, his eyes filled with satisfaction but his body feeling bruised and battered by her passion. As if tireless, he kept whispering her name in her ear, “Yao Yao…”

If Bai Yao didn’t answer, he seemed intent on calling her name until the end of time. She lazily patted his head and mumbled sleepily, “Mm, I’m here.”

Lu Sheng nuzzled her hand, and, in a small voice, pleaded, “Don’t be afraid of me. Keep liking me, always, okay?”

Summoning her energy, Bai Yao cupped his cheeks in both hands. “I love you for who you are. It doesn’t matter what you are, or what you become—even if you turned into a useless lump of mud, I’d still adore you!”

She kissed him, coaxing gently, “So stop worrying. Be good, go to sleep.”

Lu Sheng rolled over, burying his face in her neck, sniffling softly.

His heart suddenly burned with warmth.

She said, even if he became a lump of mud, it was okay.

In that moment, he was overwhelmed by a tidal wave of love, so much so that his whole body seemed unable to contain it; he was burning from head to toe.

Rainfall Society was plunged into darkness once again.

In the Friendly Neighborhood group chat, another uproar broke out.

“Damn, which lunatic lost control of their power again? Are they crazy?!”
