Chapter 158: The Legendary Special Forces Operative
Han Xun's overwhelming power made everyone's heart feel heavy, and the instant defeat of Zhao Feng and John was something Sakurako and the others could never have imagined.
"Sakurako, run! This guy's strength can only be suppressed by the [Princess]," Zhao Feng said as he struggled to crawl up from the ground, looking at Sakurako with a pleading gaze.
"Run! Run as far as you can!" John spat out through clenched teeth, without a single moment of hesitation. "Go back and find the [Princess]! Make him pay for our blood!"
John shouted, his hands tightly gripping Han Xun's arm while a primordial wind whipped up from the surrounding space behind him, blocking Han Xun's psychic powers.
"Thinking of running away even at this stage?" Han Xun's smile remained unchanged as he casually tossed John aside. John's body flew through the air, crashing hard into the guardrail and coughing up a mouthful of blood.
"Get back here!" Han Xun pointed at the fleeing Sakurako, unleashing an invisible telekinetic force from his body that swept toward her.
"Watch out!" Zhao Feng yelled anxiously, but suddenly Sakurako's body halted and spun, slipping narrowly through a tiny gap in Han Xun's telekinetic barrier.
"Oh?" Han Xun let out a puzzled sound. "Quite an interesting superpower." With that, his body shifted, hurtling across Sakurako's escape route and blocking her path ahead.
"Can you escape once, and escape a second time?"
A trace of surprise appeared on Sakurako's face. Seeing Han Xun raise his hand again, her graceful body gave a slight twist, evading Han Xun's binding ability once more.
Sakurako retreated rapidly, flipping backward twice to take cover several meters away.
"Strange, what kind of superpower do you actually have?" At this moment, even Han Xun was somewhat surprised. "You seem to know my every move in advance."
Sakurako did not answer his question and continued to back away. Han Xun took two steps forward, reaching out his hand toward Sakurako in an attempt to grab her.
"Get lost, you bastard!" Wang Jianming flew in, brandishing the massive sword in his hand and bringing it down heavily toward Han Xun as he reached for Sakurako.
Wang Jianming abandoned the incoming attack from behind, focusing entirely on assaulting Han Xun to protect Sakurako.
The iron sword swept across horizontally, pointing directly at Han Xun.
Han Xun did not retreat in the slightest. With a cold snort, he raised a hand to block the incoming iron sword, his gaze shifting gradually from the escaping Sakurako to the weapon.
"A kinetic energy manipulator? Level eight, already? What a pity, such a pity. If you were willing to join our legion, you could hold a very high position. How about it, interested?"
"In your dreams!" Wang Jianming was a straightforward person and immediately cursed aloud, "I'd rather die than be a dog for you."
Hearing this, Han Xun shook his head with a trace of regret. "Such a pity, such a pity. Such great talent."
Before he could finish, Han Xun's expression turned fierce. "Since you refuse to serve me, then go die."
He curled his five fingers into a claw. The iron sword in Wang Jianming's hand trembled violently before shattering into two pieces. "You come to fight me with toys like this? How utterly overconfident."
"Damn it!" Wang Jianming retreated continuously, clutching the broken sword, while Han Xun walked toward him holding the remaining half of the blade, ready to resist further.
"Killing you with your own sword—there is no more satisfying way to eliminate an enemy than this." Han Xun said, releasing his grip on the blade. The broken sword seemed guided by an invisible force, its tip pointing straight at Wang Jianming.
"So be it. Those who refuse to be my dogs are better off dead." Han Xun finished speaking, flicking his finger as the sword tip shot directly toward Wang Jianming.
"It's over!" A roar echoed in Wang Jianming's mind. The sword tip approached with extreme velocity; there was no way he could dodge it.
In his panic, Wang Jianming could only raise the broken blade in front of him as a shield, even though he knew it was all futile.
Just at that moment, a gunshot rang out from the distant jungle, knocking the broken sword in front of Wang Jianming far away.
"Who's there?" Having walked a circle around the gates of hell, Wang Jianming was drenched in cold sweat. His gaze instantly shifted to the direction the bullet came from, eager to know who had saved him at this critical moment.
Han Xun slowly lowered his raised hand and smiled without turning his head. "So you finally couldn't help but make a move?"
"Dead Eye, I've waited for you for a long time." Han Xun slowly turned around, fixing his eyes on Xie Liu, who was walking out from the edge of the forest carrying a sniper rifle. "Did you see all of this?"
Han Xun pointed at the thirty rankers behind him and smiled at Xie Liu, "This is a gift I prepared for you. You previously prepared a very surprising gift for us, and while we loved it, it was also quite painful. So I thought I'd prepare a gift for you in return. How is it? Does it suit your taste?"
"No one has ever dared to scheme against our Calamity Legion. Not only did you scheme against us, but you also brought wolves into the house. Do you even know what you've done?" Han Xun sized Xie Liu up. It was his first time seeing the guy who had turned the entire Calamity Legion upside down, and to his surprise, the fellow looked to be nothing more than a young man.
Xie Liu looked somewhat surprised and said in astonishment, "I schemed against your Calamity Legion? When did that happen? You've got it wrong, I didn't scheme against you. On the contrary, I went out of my way to save one of your phalanx commanders."
These words left Han Xun somewhat startled. After a brief moment of daze, he furrowed his brows. Xie Liu's words didn't sound like lies—did he actually misunderstand him?
No, misunderstanding or not, this hunter could not be allowed to leave this place alive today. Their Calamity Legion had never suffered losses, let alone a defeat this massive, with over a hundred people dead. Regardless of whether this kid in front of him had pulled the strings behind the scenes, he couldn't be let off. If he did it, he deserved to die; if he was truly innocent, then tough luck.
"No matter what you say, it won't change your end. The Calamity Legion wants you dead, and there is no way you will survive." Han Xun quickly solidified his decision, raised his hand, and shouted, "Everyone, get ready."
"Calamity!" The thirty people behind him moved in unison, taking a step forward together as blue-and-white electric currents coursed through their bodies, all locking onto Xie Liu.
"Wait!" Xie Liu raised a hand. "I have something to say."
"Hold fire." Han Xun motioned for the few behind him to halt, looking at Xie Liu with an intriguing expression. "Say whatever you have to say."
"Alright, I'm saying it." Xie Liu nodded, first pointing at John and the others scattered around. "First of all, let them go. This matter has nothing to do with them."
"Aren't they your enemies?" This time it was Han Xun's turn to be surprised, completely failing to understand what kind of medicine Xie Liu was selling in his gourd.
"They used to be, but not anymore." Xie Liu explained, "There are certain things about them that make me quite curious, so I hope you won't touch them."
"You still have the mood to care about others at a time like this? Shouldn't you be worrying about yourself instead?" Han Xun sneered. "You're going to die soon enough; you'd better hurry up and say your last words."
"Don't speak too soon. You might not necessarily be able to take my life. You should know, my life is exceptionally tough." Xie Liu slung the sniper rifle over his back and walked toward Han Xun as if the latter weren't even an enemy.
"Do you seriously think you can escape from all of us?" Han Xun laughed out of anger. "I've investigated you—just a level six physical mutant. What do you have to fight us with? Even if you have that A2 special forces operative by your side, do you really think I came here without any preparations?"
"I've investigated you too—just a level nine superpower user. I've already taken down several level ten powerhouses. You're simply not up to it." Xie Liu spoke nonchalantly, as if discussing something completely trivial.
"You..." Han Xun's expression abruptly turned icy.
"You're simply not up to it." Ever since he founded the Calamity Legion, no one had ever dared say such words to him. Those who had looked down on him and the Calamity Legion even slightly had long since been crushed into dust.
"Since you're courting death, then go die. And as for your condition, I refuse."
"Everyone who offends the Calamity Legion must die." Han Xun raised his hand, spread his five fingers, and let out a furious roar. The people behind him moved, raising their weapons in unison.
"Then let's do it!"
Before the members of the Calamity Legion could move, Xie Liu spoke up first. In reality, he never had any intention of negotiating with Han Xun. These people were used to being overbearing; Xie Liu had heard about them long ago. It was only because they had suffered heavy losses during the Kanto incident, and the city's upper echelons felt a lingering sense of guilt toward them, that their domineering behavior had been tolerated until now.
However, Xie Liu would not tolerate it. If you dare act arrogant in front of me, I will beat you until you behave like a grandson—this was Xie Liu's consistent principle. He put away his sniper rifle, drew the returning blade from his waist with a reverse grip, and pointed it at Han Xun. "I'll only say this once: step back now, and I won't touch your men. If you insist on fighting, don't blame me for showing no mercy. When the time comes, not a single person you brought will leave this place alive. Don't doubt my words."
"What a joke!" Han Xun sneered coldly, as if he had heard the most ridiculous thing in the world. "The only one who will die is you."
Xie Liu felt a twinge of pity for this man's arrogance. He was still living in a dream where he was invincible under the heavens. Granted, his strength could not be underestimated, but such a person was nothing to be feared.
"Wendy, A2, let's move. No need to hold back—kill if you can. These overbearing people need to be taught pain so they learn some restraint." Xie Liu spoke slowly, then closed his eyes slightly. When he opened them again, his pupils had turned blood-red.
"I've been waiting for you to say that." A2's voice came first. Her figure materialized from behind Xie Liu, tossing out her White Oath. The spinning long blade whipped up a white storm that swept directly toward the thirty rankers behind Han Xun.
Facing A2's sudden attack, the thirty-plus members of the Calamity Legion did not panic. They raised their weapons together and shouted in unison:
"Calamity!"
Blue-and-white electric arcs shot out, colliding with the white storm thrown by A2. Following a deafening roar, blue-and-white plasma burst forth in front of the thirty individuals, failing to pierce through A2's attack.
The thirty-plus people retreated repeatedly before barely managing to stabilize their footing, their faces instantly turning pale. Thirty people against one, and the result was being suppressed!
A2 took two steps forward, caught the returning White Oath, and rested it on her shoulder. Looking at the retreating group, the corners of her rosy lips curved upward into a contemptuous smile.
"This..." Han Xun took everything in, his face registering shock. Xie Liu remarked, "You'd better worry about yourself instead. Wendy, attack!"
As Xie Liu's voice fell, Wendy's figure flashed out from the forest, purple light darting about everywhere before finally closing in on Han Xun.
"This is impossible!" Han Xun cried out in alarm, retreating gracefully. Wendy's sword gleam was blindingly fast, resembling a violent storm that closed the distance to Han Xun in an instant.
"Do you really think you're invincible below level ten? Remember, superpower numerical values do not represent true strength." Xie Liu sneered.
A2 had blocked the thirty men brought by Han Xun, and Wendy was fully capable of suppressing Han Xun. This battle seemed to hold no more suspense, and next came John and the others. Xie Liu was very curious about their origins, so he turned around and was about to ask when he suddenly heard a burst of loud laughter rolling in from the distance, growing closer by the second.
"Who's there?" Xie Liu looked up in surprise, watching from afar as a figure descended rapidly from the sky.
"Dead Eye, run!" Upon hearing that voice, A2's expression changed drastically, and she shouted at the top of her lungs toward Xie Liu, "It's A1!"
"What?!" Both Xie Liu and Wendy cried out in alarm at that moment, their faces filled with profound shock.
