Chapter 160: Ambush
Xie Liu's attacks seemed completely negligible in the face of Han Xun's superpowers. Han Xun grabbed Xie Liu from a distance, his psychokinesis immensely powerful, binding Xie Liu's body suspended in mid-air.
"Brat, I'll kill you first, and then I'll deal with that woman." Han Xun said angrily, raising his hand to grab Xie Liu's heart.
Then, a bizarre scene unfolded. A wicked smile appeared at the corner of Xie Liu's mouth, and in the blink of an eye, the Xie Liu who had been caught suddenly turned into an illusion. Han Xun's hand passed right through his body, feeling neither blood nor any impact with a solid entity.
"What is going on?" Han Xun frowned. The Xie Liu before him dissolved gradually like ink dropped into water, and his vision cleared up completely. Xie Liu, who should have been pierced through, appeared in the distance, looking at him with a cold sneer.
A pair of violet eyes possessed an eerie, mesmerizing beauty. The Nightmare Eyes could induce hallucinations, and Xie Liu successfully deceived Han Xun using this ability.
"I underestimated you." Han Xun took a deep breath and closed his eyes. The best way to counter Xie Liu's ability was simply not to look into his eyes, but closing one's eyes during a confrontation was a fatal disadvantage for anyone. The moment he closed his eyes, he had already lost the initiative.
Han Xun had no choice. The screams of his subordinates echoed from behind. If Han Xun could not quickly defeat Xie Liu and provide support, within dozens of seconds, all of his subordinates would be wiped out here.
Calming his mind, Han Xun sensed Xie Liu's position and spread his arms. All nearby objects strangely floated up behind him, pointing directly at Xie Liu's location.
Relying on his superpowers to sense Xie Liu's position, Han Xun sent the floating objects hurtling toward Xie Liu at high speed. Xie Liu rolled to dodge, but Han Xun relentlessly controlled the flying objects, chasing after Xie Liu and smashing them down one by one.
Xie Liu moved at high speed to evade the objects constantly crashing toward him. Although Han Xun estimated his position through superpowers, his accuracy dropped significantly, and ultimately Xie Liu narrowly dodged every single one of them without injury.
"Han Xun, if you keep hounding me like this, I can't guarantee how many of your subordinates will survive!" Xie Liu laughed aloud, and seeing that Wendy had basically resolved her opponents, he immediately reminded Han Xun.
Han Xun's body trembled as he turned around in astonishment, only to see people scattered all over the ground behind him, everyone missing limbs and groaning loudly where they lay.
"You!" Han Xun stared in shock at Wendy. This dashing woman had tiny specks of blood staining her face, and her violet eyes radiated an enchanting smile. "Who are you?"
Han Xun finally realized he had kicked a steel plate. The combat power of this seemingly gorgeous, purple-haired woman was horrifyingly off the charts.
"Hunting Team, Rose Sword Princess." Wendy lowered the violet light blade in her hand and said chillingly. In less than a minute, she had successfully routed more than thirty elite soldiers of the United Task Force. Moreover, Han Xun could sense that although all thirty of his subordinates were defeated, none of them were dead; at worst, they suffered broken hands and legs, showing that this purple-haired woman had actually held back.
"So it's you!" Han Xun's expression finally changed drastically. Although he didn't pay much attention to the affairs of the hunting teams, the reputation of the Rose Sword Princess was blazing like the midday sun, and he had heard of her long ago.
"You've lost." Xie Liu's voice drifted over. "Please leave this place and stop hunting us down. After all, there is no deep enmity between us, and besides, the people you brought urgently need to be sent back for medical treatment."
Han Xun turned sharply to see Xie Liu walking over from behind, helping up John and Zhao Feng, who were lying on the ground.
"You want me to retreat?" Han Xun's eyelids twitched slightly, and then he smiled coldly. "Impossible! No one leaves alive after provoking our Calamity Legion."
"It seems your arrogance and conceit have penetrated to your very bones." Xie Liu finally helped up Wang Jianming, walked right up to Han Xun, placed a hand on the hilt of his blade, and said, "The only reason we are not killing you and your subordinates right now is out of consideration for our shared status as city soldiers. Do you really think we wouldn't dare to touch you?"
"Why are you still wasting words with him? Just chop off all his limbs and see how he dares to resist." Wendy walked slowly over, dragging a member of the United Task Force. Although this soldier looked disheveled, he had no obvious injuries. Wendy held the Star of Purple Glory against the man's neck and said to Han Xun, "Don't think I really wouldn't dare to strike. If you still want to make an enemy of us, see if I don't kill him."
"How dare you!" Han Xun's thick eyebrows stood on end. Although Wendy was powerful, he wasn't overly terrified, but Wendy had shamelessly used his subordinate to threaten him, which tied Han Xun's hands.
"Just watch whether I dare or not." Wendy sneered, tilting the Star of Purple Glory slightly to press it against the warrior's face, almost grazing it enough to draw blood.
Han Xun clenched his palms, evidently pushed to the verge of fury. The gravel under his feet was trembling slightly, clearly due to his superpowers.
Wendy reversed her grip to hold the neck of the special forces soldier before her and said coldly, "Don't try to use your superpowers. I will kill this person before you can even deploy them. If you don't believe me, feel free to try."
Han Xun's brow twitched slightly, reaching the absolute edge of rage, but in the end, he did not act rashly. Instead, he loosened his fists, and the objects floating around him slowly fell to the ground, retracting his superpowers.
"Speak your terms. What do you want?" Han Xun ultimately chose to compromise. These people were the elites of the Calamity Legion; if they all perished here, it would be nothing short of a devastating blow to the legion.
"Our purpose is very simple. You must promise us that for the next three days, the Calamity Legion will not conduct any pursuit against us." Before Wendy could speak, Xie Liu interrupted and blurted it out.
Han Xun ignored Xie Liu's words and looked instead at Wendy. Evidently, in his eyes, Xie Liu's words carried no weight; the person he valued was always Wendy.
Though Wendy was also surprised by Xie Liu's proposal—according to her plan, they could not only force Han Xun to retreat but also make him help deal with the newly arrived A1 special forces—Xie Liu clearly had his own intentions. Wendy glanced at Xie Liu not far away and then nodded. "What he said represents my wishes."
"Three days? Fine, I agree to this condition." Han Xun agreed without a second thought. This time, upon returning, he needed to prepare the legion's weapons of war, and in three days, he would grind Xie Liu and Wendy into dust.
"I hope you won't go back on your word." Xie Liu said, then pointed at Wendy. "Wendy, let him go."
Wendy nodded and shoved the special forces soldier she had captured forward. Han Xun stepped forward to catch his subordinate and settled him by his side. "Pilla, how are you holding up?"
The man named Pilla remained silent and shook his head. Han Xun shifted his gaze to fixate on Wendy, and then spoke. "Rose Sword Princess, is it? I'll remember this. Our Calamity Legion will not..."
Then, the sudden mutation occurred. At that very moment, Han Xun felt a sharp pain from behind as a dagger pierced through his defense, driving straight into his back.
"You!" Han Xun looked in disbelief at the person who had stabbed him. It was none other than Pilla, the man he had just rescued. "You! You're not Pilla! Who are you?!" Only now did Han Xun realize that the hostages and the three-day truce were nothing more than a smoke screen created by Xie Liu to cover this single strike.
"Who on earth are you?" Han Xun glared at the Pilla before him, an old subordinate who had followed him for many years. Then he watched in shock as the face of the person before him shifted from a familiar look into that of an unfamiliar young man.
"Gene Simulation!" Han Xun finally understood the cause. "Where is Pilla?"
Before he could finish speaking, Xie Liu's figure had already materialized. The returning blade in his hand transformed into a streak of pitch-black sword light, piercing directly through Han Xun's chest.
"Squelch..." The long sword drove into flesh, and blood spurted out along the fuller. Han Xun's eyes widened sharply as he was shoved backward by Xie Liu, finally pinned directly to the ground!
What Han Xun saw at that moment was a pair of blood-red eyes. There was not the slightest pity in that gaze, nor any human emotion; it was like an enraged beast that had scented blood. Xie Liu's expression at that moment was bloodthirsty and frenzied.
"Did you think only your Calamity Legion is allowed to be overbearing?" Xie Liu stood face-to-face with Han Xun, letting out a mocking laugh. "You just don't realize that you are far less overbearing than we are. From the moment you decided to make a move on me, I never intended to let you or your Calamity Legion go. To those who dare harbor malicious intentions toward us, there is only one thing I can do: make them vanish from this world."
Han Xun stared fiercely at Xie Liu, trembling as he raised a hand to grab Xie Liu's blade, coughing up mouthfuls of blood. "You... you are utterly ruthless..."
"Hmph." Xie Liu gave a cold snort, pulled out the returning blade, and chopped off Han Xun's limbs with a reverse stroke. Han Xun gave a muffled groan and passed out cold.
"You didn't kill him?" Wendy stepped forward, frowning. Xie Liu shook the blood off his blade and slid it back into its sheath before replying, "After all, he's a legion commander; he can't just be killed casually. But he should have heard what I just said. I believe that if he ever dares to make a move against us again, he'll think twice."
"Wang Qi, well done." Xie Liu turned around and patted the still-trembling Wang Qi. It was precisely Wang Qi who had put on the combat uniform of the United Task Force, disguised himself as one of them, and successfully launched a surprise attack.
Wang Qi's hands, still gripping the dagger, were trembling. Just moments ago, when Han Xun turned toward him, he had clearly felt Han Xun's fury and that terrifying superpower. If he had hesitated at that moment, he probably would have been a dead man by now.
Xie Liu simply patted Wang Qi's shoulder and then looked toward the four members of John's group. "You guys can head back."
The four looked at each other in dismay, having no idea what medicine Xie Liu was selling in his gourd. Still, they nodded at Xie Liu, then retreated swiftly, jumped off the highway, and vanished into the woods.
"Alright, matters here are settled." Xie Liu said, looking up at the sky where a flock of sparrows was hastily fleeing toward City W. "The people from the Calamity Legion should know about the situation here by now. Their rescue party will arrive soon. Let's go and see what's happening on A2's side."
Just as Xie Liu finished speaking, a petite black figure came flying through the air like a cannonball, crashing heavily into the ground and sending dust billowing in all directions.
"It seems we have trouble."
