Chapter 109: Put these on, and your safety will be guaranteed.
A three-meter-high white crescent blade flew toward the convoy’s position.
One translucent barrier after another rose into place, leaving neither side able to do anything to the other.
The battle continued for half a minute. Countless bullets were wasted, yet the enemy’s barrier remained as firm as ever.
“You five, come back. We’re retreating for now.”
Given the current situation, heavy machine guns alone were useless. It was time to give them new weapons.
But that presented another problem: how were they going to obtain those weapons?
After retreating to a hillside ten kilometers away, the convoy came to a halt.
“Scout the surroundings, then prepare some food.”
Once he had assigned them their tasks, Lin Mu had a great many questions for the tailed woman before him.
“What were the barrier on your vehicle and the one around the town just now?”
“Mine is only a small magic array. There are many spatial tunnels on this planet. Once you enter one and complete its mission, you can obtain the corresponding items. Of course, I still recommend robbing people directly if possible.
“Everything I have was obtained through robbery. The spatial rifts are far too difficult.
“As for the town just now, it should be the defensive array that came with the town itself.”
Spatial tunnels? Complete missions?
“What are those spatial tunnels like?”
“You’ll be teleported to another planet, and then the interface will issue you a mission. As long as you complete it, you’ll receive a reward. The missions are different every time, and people without sufficient strength usually die in there.”
Lin Mu nodded. It sounded somewhat like the game that had been activated before.
“Then where did the array protecting this town come from?”
“It came with the town.” Anna shrugged.
She knew what Lin Mu was thinking, but that was simply impossible.
“What do you mean?”
“A town cannot be built just anywhere. You have to find an array first and then construct the town on its foundation. But places like that were occupied long ago, so you can forget about it.
“Unless you seize the place by force. But that’s impossible. The defensive power of that barrier is extremely formidable.”
In other words, the town was the safest place on the entire planet.
As long as one remained inside the town, one was practically invincible.
Lin Mu shook his head. He did not believe that barrier was truly so powerful.
There was nothing in this world that could not be broken. It was merely a matter of insufficient damage.
He would test the effect of the traction cannons later.
Each of their vehicles could operate two cannons simultaneously. Adding his own four, they had eighty-four in total.
They could try firing ten coordinated volleys.
If even that failed to break the barrier, then he would have to think of another way.
Lin Mu could not help recalling the crescent-shaped blade that had flown toward them earlier. It was probably something similar to sword aura.
Seen in that light, the people of Blue Star relied on external force, while these people relied on their own strength.
“Anna, did you acquire your strength after coming here, or were you already this powerful back home?”
“I was strong to begin with. After coming here, I grew even stronger. I’m much more powerful than I was before.”
Whenever the subject of strength arose, she was still quite confident.
Before taking part in this survival game, she had already been one of the strongest members of her race.
And now, she was one of the strongest among the strong.
Lin Mu raised an eyebrow. “Then your strength is rather disappointing.”
“...”
Anna’s expression stiffened. But when she considered her current circumstances, she had to admit that Lin Mu was right.
Lin Mu glanced out the window. The members of the convoy had already begun bustling about.
“You’ve been feeding me nonsense.”
He had asked everything he needed to ask and learned everything he needed to know. It was time to hand her over to someone else.
“That Jiang... Shu Yi, take her. She’s your responsibility from now on.”
As he spoke, Lin Mu handed Anna over to Shu Yi.
“Brother Mu, did you just call me?”
Jiang Ying walked over from the side.
“I was going to ask you to take her, but after thinking about it, I decided against it.”
He was worried that Jiang Ying would not be able to handle Anna.
After all, Anna was a succubus. She was not someone easy to deal with.
The men present stared blankly at Anna the moment they saw her.
Anna blinked at them, and every man froze as though under a paralysis spell.
Seeing this, Anna could not help laughing aloud.
Smack!
“Ow! Ow! Ow!”
Anna crouched on the ground, clutching the back of her head with both hands.
Why had that woman hit her so viciously?
“Don’t pretend I hurt you. I barely used any force. Besides, you’re so powerful—how could that possibly hurt?”
Shu Yi struggled to hold back her laughter. Then why was her hand so red?
“You... I’m only a succubus! I’m not a Hell Knight with powerful limbs!”
Anna had never felt so speechless.
By that logic, were forbidden-spell mages supposed to be impervious to swords and spears?
After Anna was struck, the men came back to their senses.
When they looked at her again, their eyes were filled with fear.
To be controlled just by looking at her was far too terrifying.
Anna glanced at the men in the distance. Her abilities were clearly still working, so why were they ineffective against Lin Mu?
She had used that ability on him several times that afternoon, yet he had not reacted in the slightest.
Could it be because of the collar?
But that did not make sense either.
Unless...
With a mischievous grin, Anna approached Lin Mu and whispered, “Do you like men?”
“...”
Smack!!!
This slap carried tremendous force.
Anna crouched on the ground, tears streaming from the corners of her eyes. She tried to speak, but the back of her head hurt too much.
“Keep a close eye on her. If she refuses to behave, just kill her.”
How dare she say that he liked men? She clearly did not want to live.
“But... this collar only prevents her from harboring intentions toward you. If she decides to deal with me, I won’t be able to stop her.”
After what had happened with those three women, they understood that the collar was not omnipotent.
Faced with someone as powerful as Anna, even Shu Yi felt somewhat uneasy.
“Don’t be afraid. Just put these on.”
Lin Mu took out a somewhat loosely woven suit of chain mail.
“Brother Mu, will this really work?”
The gaps between the links were large enough to fit a fist through. Could this truly protect her from Anna?
Anna lifted her head and stared at Lin Mu in shock.
“How do you have so much mithril?”
“Well, I still have a whole pile of it in my warehouse. It’s not that much—only a few tons.”
Anna pressed her lips together and struggled for a long while before forcing out a single word.
“Damn.”
Lin Mu ignored her and unfolded the “chain mail,” or rather, the chain armor.
A cross had been set at every intersection.
Anna’s eyelid twitched.
Shameless! This was utterly shameless!
“Wear this, and she won’t dare touch you. Also, put on this cross bracelet. If she refuses to obey, just slap her.”
Shu Yi looked at the items Lin Mu handed her, then cast a sympathetic glance at Anna.
This was the most miserable captive she had ever seen.
