Chapter 46 The Dog of a Man Is Acting Strange
Bai Lu considered for a moment and asked, “What about the time? And the payment?”
Yu Fuqing replied, “One season, twelve episodes, six cities, just over a month, three million in total, after taxes.”
Bai Lu knew that all she had was the title of ‘Nation’s Sweetheart,’ without a single solid award to her name. This price was already the result of repeated negotiations by Yu Xing Entertainment.
“Alright, I’ll take the variety show,” Bai Lu nodded, deciding to postpone her plans for now. “But after this show ends, don’t schedule any more work for me. After the New Year, I want to go back to school.”
Yu Fuqing was momentarily stunned. “Back to school?”
Bai Lu said, “Is there a problem? Next year—ah, no, this June, I’ll be taking the college entrance exam. I need to go back to school to catch up on my studies. Otherwise, I won’t get into the Central Academy of Drama.”
Yu Fuqing assured her, “Lu, Fuqing has already thought this through for you. You don’t need to go back to school. I’ll hire the best tutors to give you one-on-one lessons.”
“No,” Bai Lu refused without hesitation. “You can get me private tutors for one-on-one cultural lessons, but if I don’t attend school enough, I won’t get my high school diploma. If you try to buy me a diploma and it gets exposed, what will I do?”
The real reason, of course, was that she needed to return to school to take responsibility for the life that had died for her in her previous existence.
Yu Fuqing thought for a moment. Bai Lu was in the spotlight—her looks and acting were flawless—posing a threat to many, without even trying. The industry was full of dirty tricks.
If something like a high school diploma could affect Bai Lu’s image as the nation’s sweetheart, it simply wasn’t worth the risk.
Yu Fuqing nodded. “Alright, we’ll do as you say. School will soon be on winter break. You can finish filming the show during the break, then return just as classes start. The timing is perfect.”
Bai Lu asked directly, “How much do I get for this show? How much does Yu Xing Entertainment take?”
Yu Fuqing replied, “That… We can decide once we sign the contract today.”
Bai Lu took out her phone. “I’ll contact the lawyer. Let’s sign the contract as soon as possible.”
Yu Fuqing nodded. “I’ll wait for you downstairs.”
Following the contact information given by the celestial gentleman, Bai Lu made the call. She had barely given her name when the other side replied, “Miss Bai, I’m at the café downstairs from Yu Xing Entertainment. Have you arrived?”
“…I’m on my way! No more than an hour!”
Oh, how considerate Asui is! If she were the richest person, she’d never let Asui go!
Yu Xing Entertainment, meeting room.
On Bai Lu’s side, it was just herself and the lawyer. Across from them, including Yu Fuqing, sat seven people.
Yu Fuqing pushed the drafted documents forward and said with a smile, “Please look them over. This contract was tailor-made for you, Lu. There’s nothing else like it in the industry.”
The lawyer, expressionless, read through each page carefully.
Forty minutes later, the lawyer placed the contract in front of Bai Lu. “Miss Bai, as Mr. Yu said, you won’t find another contract like this. There’s nothing that needs amending. You can sign directly.”
Bai Lu was bewildered. Was this lawyer really the one Asui found for her? That scoundrel hadn’t tampered with the contract at all?
Yu Fuqing smiled slightly. “Lu, I told you I’d prove it with action. Now you should trust me, right?”
He had already discussed it with his father. To ensure Bai Lu would renew her contract next year, as long as the company didn’t lose money, Yu Xing Entertainment wouldn’t take a penny from her earnings this year!
Bai Lu was a money tree—one that would never run dry.
Just one year.
If a year could buy Bai Lu’s loyalty, it would be well worth it—profitable beyond measure.
Bai Lu licked her lips. “I have a stomachache, I’ll go to the restroom.”
Grabbing her phone, she rushed out.
“Asui!”
The call was answered by Tang Xing, who said, “Master Asui is busy. Bai—Lu, do you need something?”
Bai Lu asked, “Hey, is the lawyer you found for me reliable? He just read through Yu Xing Entertainment’s contract and didn’t change a single word—told me to sign right away. That’s too strange. Doesn’t fit that scoundrel’s character!”
Scoundrel?
Wasn’t Miss Bai sharp enough? Why did she insist on signing with Yu Xing Entertainment?
Tang Xing didn’t ask much, simply replied, “Master Asui found you the head of the legal department from Huo Group. If he tells you to sign, you can rest assured.”
“The head of Huo Group’s legal department?”
“Absolutely. If you don’t believe me, you can look him up online.”
“I believe! Of course I believe Asui!”
“Then why did you call?”
“I don’t believe you.”
Tang Xing: “…………”
Back in the meeting room, Bai Lu took out her personal stamp, recently returned to her by Shen Yanghong.
She signed wherever the lawyer indicated, and stamped wherever told.
Bai Lu, the emotionless signing machine.
The lawyer informed her, “Miss Bai, I’ll go with Yu Xing’s staff to the notary office for authentication. If you’re worried—”
“No, no, I’m not worried,” Bai Lu nodded repeatedly. “Not at all. But do you need me to come with you?”
The lawyer shook his head. “No need. Once the notarization is complete, I’ll deliver the contract to you.”
Bai Lu thought for a moment. “If it’s convenient, maybe you should keep it for me? I’m a bit scatterbrained and often lose things.”
Actually, she was afraid that Yu Fuqing, that scoundrel, would sneak in and steal her contract.
It would only be safe in the office of Huo Group’s head of legal.
The lawyer nodded readily. “Of course. If you need anything, just contact me.”
Yu Fuqing said, “Lu—”
“Don’t bother me. I’m doing the math!” Bai Lu took out her phone and tapped the calculator.
Yu Fuqing laughed, “Little money-grubber, you’ll get exactly two hundred sixty thousand for this show.”
Yu Xing Entertainment only took forty thousand, which also covered publicity, buying trending topics, and all necessary expenses.
Yu Xing Entertainment would definitely be losing money.
Bai Lu said, “Two hundred sixty thousand, plus the signing bonus of two hundred thousand… Four hundred sixty thousand! I have four hundred sixty thousand now! I’m rich!”
Yu Fuqing watched her dance with joy, trembling with anger inside.
Lu had been in the industry for eleven years—eleven whole years.
She could’ve been rolling in money by now, and yet less than half a million made her this happy.
Meanwhile, Shen Yanghong and Wu Liping could lose over a hundred thousand in a night at the casino.
He should’ve found a way to get Lu to sign with Yu Xing Entertainment sooner.
Yu Fuqing said, “Lu, don’t get so excited. From now on, I’ll help you make even more money. This five hundred thousand is nothing. Got it?”
Bai Lu replied, enunciating each word, “I got it. This four hundred sixty thousand is just the beginning. I’ll earn even more, take down Huo Yan Fang, and become the richest myself if I want.”
After all, she held the keys to wealth.
Once she was reunited with her father, she could help him defeat Huo Yan Fang and make her father the richest man alive!
