Chapter 13: The Storm of Termination
“Mr. Fu, no matter what I do, it seems you find fault with everything. Why don’t you just let me go and terminate the contract?”
Fu Boyun’s face darkened instantly, an icy chill emanating from him that seemed to drop the temperature in the elevator by several degrees.
He let out a cold laugh. “Jiang Yu, do you really think you’ll have an easy time after the contract ends? Everything you have now is because of me. Without me, you’re nothing.”
That sentence completely ignited Jiang Yu’s fury.
She jerked her head up, teeth clenched as she glared at him, anger almost blazing from her eyes.
At that moment, the elevator arrived and the doors slid open. Without hesitation, Jiang Yu strode out, her steps so quick it was as if she were fleeing.
As she reached her apartment door and was about to unlock it, she heard familiar footsteps behind her.
Startled, she turned and saw that Fu Boyun had followed her out of the elevator.
“Why are you following me?” Jiang Yu’s voice was tight with barely suppressed rage.
Fu Boyun stopped, his gaze heavy. “I wanted to see if you still planned to say anything that would anger me further.”
Jiang Yu let out a bitter laugh.
“Mr. Fu, I thought what I said in the elevator was already harsh enough. If you want to hear more unpleasant things, you’d better come in and have a seat—I’ve got plenty more to say.”
She ground her teeth as she flung the door open with force.
“It’s truly appalling, the way you throw your weight around.”
Yet before she could regain her composure, the door was pushed open from behind. Fu Boyun’s tall figure swept in, his presence cold and imposing.
“Fu Boyun, are you out of your mind?” Jiang Yu demanded, brows tightly knit.
The man paid no heed to her anger. He closed the door behind him with a chilling finality. “Who said you could close the door? I’m not finished.”
“What else could you possibly have to say?” Jiang Yu straightened, stubborn defiance burning in her eyes. “Fu Boyun, I’ve had enough of you. Just how far do you want to push me before you’re satisfied?”
His expression darkened further at her words.
In a few long strides, he closed the distance between them. Without warning, he seized her wrist, pinning her against the door.
“Are you trying to defy me?”
His voice was low and dangerous, his gaze as cold and unfathomable as a winter lake.
A surge of fury rose in Jiang Yu’s chest. She met his eyes squarely. “Defy you? Fu Boyun, think carefully—who has been pushing whom, again and again? What right do you have to order me around?”
His eyes narrowed, a cold smile curling at the corners of his lips.
“What right? Jiang Yu, your contract isn’t up yet. Until then, everything about you is under my control.”
“Is that so?” Jiang Yu sneered, abruptly shoving him away. “Have you forgotten there are less than three months left on this contract? When the time is up, I’ll be free. Not even the mighty Fu Boyun will have any say in my life!”
Her words were a dagger, striking at the very heart of his pride.
His face grew even colder, anger burning unmistakably in his eyes.
“Jiang Yu,” he said, his voice low, laced with barely restrained fury, “don’t forget who made you what you are today. If not for me, would you be standing where you are now?”
The two of them faced off, the air between them charged, ready to ignite at the slightest spark.
Just as Fu Boyun let out a cold snort and turned to leave, Jiang Yu stepped back—and her heel struck the threshold. A sharp jolt of pain shot through her, and she lost her balance, collapsing to a crouch on the floor.
