Chapter 70: Furious
An uninvited guest arrived on the golden Dao ship.
"Who are you? How dare you sweep me with your divine sense?"
Feng Xiang frowned, eyeing the newcomer with clear displeasure. With a wave of his hand, he swept the power of the void toward the divine shrine, temporarily stowing it away for later study.
He Xuan did not answer, but instead smiled slyly, his gaze lingering with ill-concealed interest on the firebird folding fan in Feng Xiang's hand. Only then did he speak: "Boy, you actually possess two Dao Treasures. Now I’m very curious—where are you from? Which starry sky sect do you belong to?"
A vein throbbed on Feng Xiang’s forehead.
Such a rude interruption, paired with an air of arrogant indifference and that insufferable smile—was this the new trend in the Spiritual Energy Universe for greeting strangers?
"Young man, don’t get upset."
The old man, with his white crane-like beard, smiled at Feng Xiang. There was a proud straightness in his tone as he continued, "You probably haven’t realized yet, but I am actually a Lord of Light!"
As he spoke, boundless radiant power spread from beneath his feet, sacred and dazzling, extending over ten yards, making him appear like a god among mortals.
Feng Xiang was momentarily stunned.
So what if he was a Lord of Light? Did this old man truly believe that being a Lord of Light was something to flaunt before others?
"Now you understand."
Seeing Feng Xiang’s startled expression, the old man’s smile grew more benevolent, and he felt even more pleased with himself, convinced that the young man's heart was undergoing a dramatic upheaval, perhaps even regretting his earlier disrespectful words.
A Lord of Light, no matter what cultivation domain, was an existence apart from the rest. Such figures were legends—symbols, even. In some ancient starry sects, it was rare to have even one or two living Lords of Light.
Xiao Huang and Ying’er watched in puzzlement, blinking at one another. This old grandpa was very strange.
Only Qing’er, lips pressed in a faint smile, seemed to infer the truth from the old man’s smug expression. A Lord of Light was indeed remarkable, but only for most people. If he thought this status gave him license to posture before Feng Xiang, he was gravely mistaken.
"And then?" Feng Xiang raised an eyebrow. Where had this odd old man come from? Just a mere Lord of Light, yet so inflated with arrogance?
"Are you pretending to be calm?" The old man was baffled, frowning. The boy’s response was not at all what he expected. Shouldn’t he be respectfully addressing him as elder?
"Pretending? Pretending my foot!"
Feng Xiang couldn’t help but laugh in exasperation. How could this old man be so deluded? Did he not see the equipment Feng Xiang carried—the Dao Treasure starship, the Divine Extinguishing Talisman, and the Nothing-from-Something Qi, one of the ten supreme Star Refining Treasures?
Even before a Master of Cultivation, he would not cower.
Let alone a mere Lord of Light.
"Hmm..."
He Xuan looked deeply at Feng Xiang, concluding this youth must have just emerged into the world, fearless as a newborn calf, and therefore unaware of the awe he should feel.
The old man was quite disappointed. He had hoped to see the travelers panic in alarm and lose their composure.
"Young man, let me be frank. Lu Han is my subordinate—he works for me. Just now, I sensed his presence vanish. Was that your doing?"
The old man’s expression turned grim.
"So you’re Lu Han’s backer?"
Feng Xiang finally understood why this person had appeared uninvited—he had come to stand up for his subordinate. Narrowing his eyes dangerously, Feng Xiang said, "So that’s it. What now, old codger? Are you here to avenge that villainous thief?"
The old man’s pupils contracted at the words. Did this brat just call him an old codger? Did he know who he was speaking to?
A dignified Lord of Light!
A superpower whose very footsteps sent tremors through the star realm!
"You think that just because you have a few Dao Treasures, you can stand against me? The spirits of Dao Treasures are only at the Severing level. Do you have any idea how vast the gap is between Severing and a Lord of Light?"
The old man roared. Brilliant light surged around him, power swelling in waves loud as thunder, threatening to collapse the very space around them.
"I don’t know. Why don’t you show me?"
Feng Xiang grinned, his right hand tightening into a fist as Nothing-from-Something Qi surged to it, making his fist shine with a brilliant radiance, ready to strike.
Although Nothing-from-Something Qi was not famed for its combat prowess,
It was more than enough to thrash a Lord of Light.
"You want to die? I’ll oblige you!"
The old man exploded with rage, spittle flying, eyes wide and menacing. Behind him, blinding light blazed, power cascading down like hundreds of starry rivers, vast and magnificent, as if to purify the world.
"I suggest you dodge," Feng Xiang replied, entirely unafraid, baring his teeth in a grin, his right fist meeting the boundless light head-on—seemingly aimed straight for the old man’s forehead.
Throughout this, Qing’er and the others propped their chins on their hands, watching with interest.
The young retainer hesitated, wondering whether he should help. After all, he was responsible for protecting the young masters and mistresses. But recalling the senior talisman spirit in Feng Xiang’s hand, he could only sigh.
A torrent of light crashed down, thousands of yards wide, engulfing the area. The boiling energy lit up the starry sky like daylight, rocking the entire Dao ship.
The old man snorted coldly.
Ignorant brat, daring to insult and underestimate a Lord of Light—this would be your end, and your Dao Treasures would be forfeit.
Then, suddenly, a sense of danger seized the old man.
Within that endless brilliance, a shining fist—brighter than his own light—broke through the radiant torrent, charging forward, straight for his forehead.
Not good!
The old man was instantly horrified. He sensed that within this dazzling fist lay the power to shake the heavens—even if it could not destroy his immortal body of light, it would certainly inflict no small suffering.
He dodged.
As a powerhouse of the Light Realm, he was incomparably swift. In a blink, he left that space, appearing hundreds of millions of miles away, standing atop a dim asteroid.
But before he could even marvel at this,
"You can’t escape—Nothing-from-Something!"
The youth’s clear voice rang out. Alarm flared in the old man’s heart as the brilliant fist appeared out of nowhere, a river of time spanning ten thousand yards across the stars, still surging straight for his forehead.
"Impossible—this energy is... Star Refining Treasure Qi?!"
The old man gaped in disbelief, as if he had seen a ghost. At the same instant, he shifted again—this time even farther, arriving half a light-year away.
"They’re gone!" Xiao Huang, who’d been watching the spectacle with her chin in her hands, widened her eyes.
She immediately stood, her shimmering violet hair cascading to her slender waist, and ran to the prow of the ship, looking left and right, but found no trace of the two.
"I told you, you can’t escape!"
Half a light-year away, the old man stood pale and shaken.
Yet just as he appeared, Feng Xiang’s calm voice sounded once more, this time descending from above, the radiant fist even closer than before.
The old man was chilled to the bone.
He could hardly help but curse aloud.
Half a light-year out, and it’s still on my tail!?
