Chapter Twelve: Not So Scary

“Thunderwing Dragon!”
Everyone turned toward the place where the lightning was gathering.
Naturally, Feng Shang was the first to react. He shouted, “Run!”
With a whoosh, Feng Shang shot away like a bullet. After running for quite some time, he felt he was safe and stopped to catch his breath. When he looked up, he saw Han Tianyue and the others standing right in front of him.
“You’ve got to be kidding me! Not again!”
Dejected, Feng Shang turned around and ran back the way he had come. Before long, Han Tianyue and the others appeared before him once more.
Lei Dong stepped forward. “Stop running. This Fire-Thunder Burial Mound is connected end to end. Even if you ran until nightfall, you would only be going around in circles. There’s no way out!”
Wasn’t this just like the cave by Black Mountain Cliff? Feng Shang wore a mournful expression and stayed at the very back of the group, waiting for a chance to act.
After the Thunderwing Dragon swallowed a patch of lightning in midair, it did not pursue Han Tianyue and the others. Instead, it turned and flew away, as though it had not even noticed them.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, though their confusion was greater still.
“Why isn’t the Thunderwing Dragon attacking us?”
Once the Thunderwing Dragon had gone, the Fire-Thunder Burial Mound returned to its former peace. Only, because the dragon had devoured the lightning, a large portion of the azure thunder had vanished.
“Even if the Thunderwing Dragon isn’t attacking us, if it keeps devouring the lightning like this, it will consume all the thunder in Fire-Thunder Mountain City!” Lei Dong shouted.
Lei Dong was right. Even if the Thunderwing Dragon posed no immediate threat, allowing it to continue would eventually destroy the entire city. Han Tianyue stepped forward.
“As long as we don’t attack the Thunderwing Dragon, I believe it won’t attack us either. So let’s follow it and see where its nest is.”
Everyone nodded and set off after the dragon.
The Thunderwing Dragon was swift and agile. Feng Shang was the only one who could keep up with it, but he was terrified of the creature and deliberately slowed down, remaining behind the main group. When the dragon was about to disappear from sight, Han Tianyue called out, “Feng Shang, you’re the fastest. Go after it first. We’ll catch up at once!”
“Me?” Feng Shang said timidly.
Hearing Han Tianyue’s words, Lei Cong praised him enthusiastically. “At last, we get to witness Brother Feng Shang’s divine skill! Wonderful! Brother Feng Shang, you’re the best!”
The moment he heard that, Feng Shang’s spirits soared. He thumped his chest and declared, “Of course! Who do you think I am? The Invincible Wind King!”

A gust of wind swept past, and Feng Shang pursued the Thunderwing Dragon at full speed.
The dragon flew straight ahead, then suddenly stopped in midair and turned to stare at Feng Shang.
Feng Shang hurried to halt. As he looked into the dragon’s enormous eyes, his heart began to pound.
Just then, Feng Shang let out a terrible scream. By the time Han Tianyue and the others arrived, both Feng Shang and the Thunderwing Dragon had vanished.
“Feng Shang!”
Alarm flashed across Han Tianyue’s face. He had assumed that as long as they did not attack the dragon, it would not attack them. He had never expected it to carry Feng Shang away to some unknown place.
Mao Xuanzi came over and comforted him. “Don’t worry. That boy is blessed with a charmed life. He won’t die so easily!”
Though Mao Xuanzi said this aloud, he was still worried about Feng Shang in his heart.
“Feng Shang, you’d better be all right!”
“Help me!”
At that moment, Feng Shang’s terrified roar came again from the distance.
“Quick, after him!”
Han Tianyue and the others ran toward the sound of Feng Shang’s voice. They pursued him for a while, but once again found no trace of him.
Just as everyone was wondering where to go, Feng Shang called out again, “Come this way!”
This time, Feng Shang’s voice sounded much more relaxed. Han Tianyue, Mao Xuanzi, and Fang Zhe knew him well enough to realize that he must no longer be in danger. But why had the Thunderwing Dragon led them here?
After all, the Thunderwing Dragon was merely a beast. It was impossible to ask it to explain its intentions. When they reached the place from which Feng Shang’s voice had come, they saw him sitting quietly in midair.
Seeing Han Tianyue and the others running over, Feng Shang shouted, “Come up here!”
Han Tianyue and the others stopped beneath him and exchanged bewildered looks.
Feng Shang suddenly remembered. “That’s right! Do you remember when we took part in the graduation competition at school, and I equipped your halo?”
His words reminded Han Tianyue at once.
“You’re above us, so you can see the path below. Tell us how to get up there, and we’ll come over!”

Feng Shang nodded. “Half a step straight ahead of you!”
Han Tianyue followed his instructions and took half a step forward. The others followed.
Feng Shang hurriedly called out, “Now step back just a little!”
Han Tianyue and the others all retreated slightly. In an instant, their bodies flew upward into the air.
When they reached Feng Shang’s side, they discovered that there was a volcano of molten rock here—and that they were standing halfway up its slope.
Han Tianyue stepped forward. “I never expected there to be another illusion here!”
Mao Xuanzi and Fang Zhe naturally understood what Han Tianyue meant. Lei Dong, Lei Cong, and Lei Qiao’er, however, were utterly astonished.
“How could we have felt nothing while walking below, yet see from up here that this place is actually a volcano? So the azure thunder was caused by those dark clouds!”
Looking into the distance, they saw that the entire sky was gray and hazy. Stream after stream of azure lightning sprang from those murky clouds. This must be the true appearance of the entire Fire-Thunder Burial Mound.
“Where’s the Thunderwing Dragon?” Han Tianyue asked urgently.
Feng Shang pointed toward the cave before them. “It brought me here, then went inside.”
Everyone turned their eyes toward the pitch-black cave—
