Chapter Twenty-One: Fateful Encounters, Fateful Bonds
The Old Demon of Black Mountain paid no heed to Jin Di and Han Tianyue, driving his dark clouds and lightning in pursuit of Feng Shang. In his desperate flight, Feng Shang had entered a state of utter self-forgetfulness. His running was like his storm—within the blink of an eye, he covered thousands of miles. He had long forgotten the gentle breeze at his back and the straw doll gripping the hem of his robes.
As for Han Tianyue and his companions, they had no idea why the Old Demon had abandoned them so suddenly. Seizing the opportunity, they searched every corner of the demon’s lair, turning it upside down, but found no trace of Qing Feng.
Han Tianyue grabbed a small monster and interrogated it, “Where is the elven princess your lord captured?”
“She was rescued by a boy!” the creature confessed, terrified.
“To think that at such a critical moment, Feng Shang was so brave, actually rescuing the elven princess!” Fang Zhe couldn’t help but admire him.
“We’d better find Feng Shang soon. If we’re late, he won’t survive!” Mao Xuanzi said earnestly.
Hearing this, the group rushed off in the direction where the Old Demon had disappeared.
In truth, there was another exit in the lair. Feng Shang dashed toward it, and just as he reached the exit, he realized it was halfway up a sheer cliff.
He stopped abruptly, nearly plunging over the edge, and let out a long sigh of relief.
“I will kill you!” The Old Demon was closing in fast.
No one could help Feng Shang now. Summoning courage from who knows where, he set his jaw and leapt off the cliff, turning his body sideways and unleashing a mighty storm with all his strength. The tempest struck the rock face, and the tremendous recoil propelled Feng Shang straight into the distance.
The Old Demon burst out of the cave, and at once the whole sky was shrouded in dark clouds and raging lightning.
Feng Shang glanced at the thunderclouds behind him, finally relaxing. Just then, Qing Feng—who clung to his back—pressed a kiss to his cheek.
Only now did Feng Shang remember he was carrying an elven princess, and she had just kissed him. It was the first time in his life a girl had kissed him, but instead of being excited, his expression changed and he cried out, “Do you realize you nearly got me killed?”
Qing Feng paid no mind to his anger, hugging him tightly, her face radiant with happiness.
“You know, I liked you from the moment you planted me in the earth. Do you like me?” Qing Feng recalled how, after being rescued by Jin Di and the others, she was separated from them in the chaos of the Old Demon’s pursuit. Terrified of being captured again, she transformed herself into a stream of green water, attaching her spirit to a tiny sprout—where she met Feng Shang.
Feng Shang had no desire to learn about the past of the girl who had brought him so much misfortune, and refused, “I do not like you!”
Qing Feng was undeterred. “That’s fine. As long as I like you, that’s enough!”
Hearing this, Feng Shang was driven nearly mad. Yet as the force of the storm’s rebound faded, they began to fall straight downward—the descent itself was not terrifying, but the Old Demon was.
“Ah!” With a scream, Feng Shang crashed to the ground.
“How is my face?” Feng Shang lifted his head, caring for nothing else.
Qing Feng was even more anxious than he was, quickly brushing the dust from his face and breathing a sigh of relief. “It’s fine, nothing’s wrong!”
“Wonderful!” Feng Shang sighed in relief, joyfully embracing Qing Feng, who hugged him back just as happily. “It’s night!”
“Boy, your life is mine!” The Old Demon had already surrounded them completely.
