Chapter Thirty-Six: The White-Robed Woman’s Warning
After sweeping the aura of death from within Mo Xuanzhi, Han Tianyue collapsed onto the ground, dizzy and reeling as though the world were spinning around him.
“Are you all right?” Fang Zhe hurried forward to support the wavering Han Tianyue.
Han Tianyue smiled weakly. “I’m just a little sleepy.”
Qingfeng cried out, “Whatever you do, don’t let him fall asleep!”
Seeing Han Tianyue’s eyelids droop, Fang Zhe shook him awake at once. “Han Tianyue, don’t you dare fall asleep!”
“I feel awful.” Han Tianyue looked on the verge of vomiting, his chest tight and heavy.
Seeing his pained expression, Fang Zhe said, “Feng Shang, keep an eye on Han Tianyue. I’ll play something to help calm him down!”
Feng Shang came over and, seeing that Han Tianyue was about to retch, pinched his nose and said, “Han Tianyue, hurry up and throw up. You’ll feel better after.”
A lingering melody drifted through Han Tianyue’s heart. His stomach lurched, and he vomited everything inside him. When it was over, he gradually calmed down.
Seeing that he had settled, Feng Shang asked, “Feeling better?”
Han Tianyue was so exhausted he could hardly muster any strength, so he merely nodded faintly.
“But whatever you do, don’t fall asleep!” Feng Shang said, his own eyes half-closed with drowsiness.
After a long while, Han Tianyue opened his mouth and said, “Feng Shang, if you’re sleepy, you should sleep. I’ll be fine.”
Qingfeng stepped forward and gently patted Feng Shang. “Brother Feng Shang, let me keep watch over him. You can sleep.”
Only then did Feng Shang realize how considerate Qingfeng truly was. He nodded and turned away to sleep. Qingfeng looked at Han Tianyue and said, “Tonight, you absolutely must not fall asleep. The moment you do, the aura of death will seize your body, and then you will never wake again.”
Han Tianyue nodded. “For the sake of the Crown Prince, I won’t sleep. For the sake of the path to the throne, I won’t sleep.”
Fang Zhe sat nearby, plucking at the strings of his zither. For some reason, he could not stop recalling the white-clad woman. Who was she? Playing with her had felt so seamless, so perfect.
At that moment, a gust of wind swept into the cave.
“You?” Fang Zhe sprang to his feet, scarcely able to believe that the white-clad woman would appear before his eyes.
“How did you get in here?” There was a formation outside the cave; strangers could not simply enter.
The white-clad woman did not explain. Instead, she stepped forward and said, “I came to warn you: return the spirit princess to the Black Mountain Demon. You are no match for her.”
The sudden voice startled Han Tianyue and Qingfeng. They turned to stare at the woman in white. Though they had seen her from afar before, they had never imagined she could enter this place.
Fang Zhe smiled and glanced at Qingfeng before answering, “We won’t.”
The white-clad woman had no choice but to say, “I have said what I came to say. Whether you heed it is your own affair.”
As she turned to leave, Fang Zhe quickly rose and called, “Wait!”
She stopped.
“May I ask you something? How did you get in here?” Fang Zhe asked, both curious and bewildered.
The white-clad woman replied, “I followed your music here.”
“That’s impossible. Sound cannot pass through the formation outside,” Han Tianyue said, struggling to lift his head.
Yet Fang Zhe said, “I believe she can. The moment she entered, I sensed her too.”
At those words, the white-clad woman turned back to look at Fang Zhe, then continued toward the cave entrance. “As for your other questions, I was the one who told the four of them. I could tell they have some deep connection to you.”
“Thank you,” Fang Zhe said.
“And if you truly have the ability, then you should go where you are meant to go, not wander aimlessly here,” the white-clad woman said with a faint edge of mockery.
“Where we are meant to go? Where is that?” Fang Zhe asked.
The white-clad woman stopped and said, “The spirit princess knows. And only she knows.”
Upon hearing this, Qingfeng suddenly remembered something and nodded. “Yes, we were all mistaken. Actually, he is there!”
A slight smile touched the corners of the white-clad woman’s lips.
“Can we meet again?” Fang Zhe asked before she departed.
“If fate allows, we shall meet again.” With that, the white-clad woman vanished at the cave entrance.
“Who is she, really?” Though Fang Zhe did not know her purpose, he was certain she meant no harm. At the very least, she would not hurt them.
Qingfeng stared at the fading figure of the white-clad woman, biting her lip hard. A trace of sorrow appeared on her face, for the woman’s words had suddenly made everything clear. Lowering her gaze to Feng Shang lying beside her, tears began to fall without restraint.
Every tear of the spirits carries a fragment of the love within their hearts, and this time, her tears fell for the most precious memory of all.
