Chapter Thirty-Seven: The Darkened Heart of Ice
The sudden appearance of the woman in white was truly bewildering. Although Fang Zhe felt she meant well, Han Tianyue suspected it was not so simple. Unless she intended to use them, no one would go to such lengths for a group of strangers for no reason.
Fang Zhe continued to play his melancholic melody, while Qingfeng, unsettled by the woman’s words, still could not calm his mind. As for Han Tianyue, though utterly exhausted, he dared not fall asleep.
The aura of death roamed through Han Tianyue’s body, and he could clearly sense it gnawing away at his life. “I can’t just sit here and wait for death!” Han Tianyue realized that bearing it with sheer will was not a solution, so his soul pursued the aura of death.
Sensing the presence of his soul, the aura of death turned and rushed toward it.
The instant Han Tianyue’s soul touched the aura, it fused with his soul. At once, his soul turned pitch black.
“How can this be!” He had meant to expel the aura, but instead, his soul was shrouded by it. Han Tianyue hurriedly opened his eyes, and his limbs began to darken.
“What’s happening to me!” He felt his body was about to separate from his soul. At that moment, a roar echoed from deep within his soul, and the aura of death was instantly drawn inward.
“It’s the old man!” Han Tianyue could tell it was the old man who had swallowed the aura. He thought to himself, “Thank you!”
The old man coughed a few times and replied, “I cannot completely destroy this aura of death. I’ve only temporarily absorbed it into the Heart of Ice. You must be careful should it leak again!”
With that, the old man sealed away the depths of Han Tianyue’s soul once more. He was too weary; had Han Tianyue’s soul not nearly been consumed, the old man would not have intervened now. But this intervention would plunge him into a deeper slumber.
Han Tianyue had no idea what consequences the old man’s actions might bring, but he was deeply grateful for all the old man had done for him. At that moment, the Heart of Ice began to mutate again.
“Don’t tell me it’s going to be like last time!” Recalling how he had nearly frozen an entire innocent village, Han Tianyue steeled himself. “I’ll just go into the ring!”
Once inside the ring, Han Tianyue hugged himself tightly while, affected by the deathly aura within, the Heart of Ice began a fundamental transformation, changing from crystal clear to a pitch-black ice core.
Externally, the change manifested as frost forming all around, and the ice, reflecting the Heart of Ice’s change, turned jet black.
A dragon descended from the gate, startled by Han Tianyue’s transformation. “Such sinister ice—your Ice Soul has undergone a tremendous change!”
“Ah!” Han Tianyue let out a thunderous roar, and in an instant, three dragons soared from the gate and circled in the air. “I didn’t expect this to awaken my three brothers!” The dragons spiraled above, repeatedly diving toward Han Tianyue.
By now, Han Tianyue had completely transformed into a demonic figure of blackness. With a single palm strike, the world around him became a sea of black ice.
The four dragons coiled around Han Tianyue, exerting immense pressure on his chest. Yet, he managed to break free through sheer force.
The fifth dragon opened its eyes—
“No!” The pressure from the dragons compressed Han Tianyue’s shattered consciousness, allowing him to regain himself. With this renewed awareness, Han Tianyue began to resist. He refused to fall as he once had. “I must control myself!”
His will and the consciousness within the black ice clashed, weakening his inner powers until, at last, all the black ice within the misty world melted away.
Three dragons returned to the gate to sleep, leaving only one circling above. Watching Han Tianyue, who was now extremely weak and gasping for breath amid the haze, the dragon said, “It seems you are far stronger than I first believed.”
Han Tianyue, by sheer force of will, had regained control, though it left him utterly drained. Even so, he was profoundly grateful to the dragons; had it not been for the pressure of the four dragons compressing his awareness, he would have long since been overtaken by the black ice.
