Time passed swiftly—another five days went by.

In these five days, Fang Xia’s body had fully recovered, the construction of the territory was nearly complete, and the team’s supplies had increased day by day. Weapons especially had multiplied; through both chest-searching and trading, nearly four hundred people in Fang Xia’s team were now armed.

From the moment he awoke that day, Fang Xia felt restless, as if something momentous was imminent. The feeling persisted and only intensified by afternoon.

By six that evening, all members of Fang Xia’s team had returned.

“Liu Rui, make arrangements: tonight, no one is to sleep before midnight. Stay alert.”

“Everyone must eat their fill at dinner. Afterwards, no wandering—stay in your rooms and rest. At eleven, assemble in the courtyard.”

“Remember, bring your weapons and be ready to fight at any moment.”

“And bring your bedding; set up the tents.”

A series of instructions flowed from him, and the logistics team worked overtime to provide everyone with dinner anew.

“Brother Fang, is something big about to happen?” Several people from the second floor gathered around Fang Xia.

“All four of you, stay put tonight—do not come out. Stay quietly upstairs, lock all doors and windows.”

Fang Xia offered little explanation; his face was still troubled.

Dinner was sumptuous as always, but nobody was in the mood for merriment.

At eleven in the evening.

Fang Xia took up his battle blade, leading Liu Rui, Bai Xing, and Li Xiaochun downstairs, while the twin sisters, Doctor Jiang, and the little girl remained upstairs.

Over four hundred young women had gathered, making the vast courtyard feel cramped.

The timing of the assembly made many speculate that their leader intended a midnight raid on the City Lord’s mansion, to claim Dawn City for himself.

Tension, unease, excitement, anticipation—

All manner of emotions coursed through their hearts.

At eleven forty, Liu Rui counted heads again, confirming all were present.

At eleven fifty-five, night had fallen completely, but Fang Xia’s courtyard stayed bright. More than a dozen lamps hung in the yard, ensuring every corner was visible.

Midnight arrived.

Fang Xia looked up at the sky.

The tranquil night was suddenly disturbed by strange sounds, and then a rift opened in the heavens. For many, this scene was familiar.

“Prepare for battle.”

What was meant to come early, came early after all.

Now, every young woman in the team was filled with admiration for their leader—no wonder their group was so formidable, their captain was a fortune-teller.

As the first zombie landed, a terrified scream echoed above Dawn City.

What was thought to be the safe haven of Dawn City instantly became a paradise for zombies.

On Fang Xia’s side, over four hundred people stared at the sky, gripping their weapons tightly, palms sweating.

Ten minutes later, the rift silently vanished, and the battle in Dawn City had begun.

Seven or eight zombies fell into Fang Xia’s courtyard, but before they could even hit the ground, the young women cut them down.

The courtyard gate was left open; tonight, Fang Xia had decided to face the zombie horde here.

“Switch teams. Teams One and Two, fall back; Teams Three and Four, step up.”

“Don’t worry about the second-tier zombies, someone will handle them.”

“Don’t be afraid—we have the terrain advantage. They’re here only to die.”

Liu Rui stood at the center of the courtyard, directing the defense, while Fang Xia, Bai Xing, and Li Xiaochun kept their eyes fixed on the zombies outside.

Whenever a second-tier zombie appeared, they had to dispatch it immediately, to prevent losses among the team.

This zombie rain brought many more second-tier zombies; in their small area alone, over forty appeared.

Who knew how long it lasted, but soon, not a single zombie remained in sight.

Many collapsed on the ground in exhaustion.

From within the crowd, soft sobbing began to spread, and soon it grew louder.

“Brother Fang, forty-one died tonight.”

Liu Rui brought the tally to Fang Xia.

Forty-one—not many, less than a tenth of their number.

Yet the pain of seeing a teammate one moment, and having to strike her down the next, was hard to bear.

They had held out so long only because their nerves were taut; now, with the zombies gone, grief flooded in.

“Brother Fang, why didn’t we wait till daylight to fight? Aren’t zombies weaker then?”

The speaker was the little girl Yun Yun, just down from upstairs. Though she hadn’t fought, she’d watched everything from the second-floor window.

Yun Yun’s voice was loud enough for most of the young women in the courtyard to hear, and all eyes turned toward her.

Yes, why not wait till daylight to fight? Why tonight?

Recently, Yun Yun’s contributions to the team were second only to Liu Rui; every new member was assigned by her personally. Now, with so many dead, she couldn’t hold back her question.

“When zombies first land, their movements are sluggish from disorientation. While this slowdown is less effective against first-tier zombies than daylight, it weakens second-tier zombies considerably.”

“This round, there were far more second-tier zombies. Even hiding indoors wouldn’t be safe.”

“Besides, with so many people in Dawn City attracting the zombies’ attention, we faced fewer hordes ourselves.”

There was another reason Fang Xia didn’t mention.

Soon, he would lead them to camp in the wild—if they couldn’t fight at night, wouldn’t that be suicide?

Did they really think themselves invincible just because they bullied first-tier zombies by day?

Yun Yun wanted to say more, but Liu Rui quickly pulled her away to organize rest and night shifts for the sisters.

Tents were already set up in the courtyard; many of the newcomers had never slept in one and found them novel.

“Brother Fang, should we go out to collect upgrade crystals?” Liu Rui asked.

“We’ll wait till daylight. No rush. Tonight, Dawn City is bound to be chaotic.”

At this moment, Dawn City was a living hell.

Countless refugees without shelter turned into zombies overnight.

Even those who had rooms were attacked, as the destructiveness of second-tier zombies exceeded all expectations.

Dawn City responded immediately.

In the west, more than ten thousand members loyal to Dawn City began their counterattack.

City Lord Chen Gang stood at the forefront, fierce as a god of war.

Flames erupted from both hands, killing any zombie they touched.

“Break through!” Chen Gang roared, unwilling to see his carefully built Dawn City destroyed so easily.

Under Chen Gang’s leadership, more and more humans joined the fight—not only those from Dawn City, but other survivors as well.
