Chapter Sixty-Five: Winning Over Liu Rui
So Liu Rui had long since prepared herself mentally.
How could someone like her not stir Fang Xia's heart? Impossible!
Still, Liu Rui had never considered offering herself up so proactively.
“We can’t afford to wait. Look at today—those twin sisters already gave him a back rub. By tomorrow, it might be much more than that…”
“That’s not an option.”
Liu Rui sending herself to his bed was simply out of the question.
Her eyes flickered, and she quickly devised another plan.
…
When she woke, it was already past four in the afternoon. Fighters had physical stamina far beyond ordinary people; four or five hours of sleep was plenty.
Opening her eyes, she saw Bai Xing still sleeping beside her.
Today, Fang Xia had been teased mercilessly by the twin sisters, and now, just after waking, his energy was at its peak.
Without a second thought, he rolled over and pressed Bai Xing beneath him.
Half-awake, she felt a familiar presence envelop her, and Bai Xing quickly came to her senses…
If only she hadn’t used her skill today—she’d try going invisible to see if it gave her a speed boost, and see if Fang Xia could still be so smug.
Bai Xing thought bitterly to herself.
Leisurely lighting a cigarette, Fang Xia looked at Bai Xing, who sulked like a resentful woman.
“How is it my fault? Shouldn’t you blame yourself?”
Bai Xing, looking every bit the disgruntled lover, draped her long, beautiful legs over the headboard.
Her stockings were still on, though now more torn than worn.
She leaned her head slowly toward Fang Xia, and suddenly whispered in his ear.
“I’ll go get Rui Rui.”
The hand holding the cigarette trembled, nearly dropping it onto the bed.
Fang Xia reached out and pinched Bai Xing’s cheek—was the girl out of her mind today?
[Hmph, these two are definitely up to something. Their actions are identical. Poor me and my face.]
A smile crept onto Fang Xia’s lips. Had she secretly said something to Liu Rui?
But he played along, following Bai Xing’s lead.
“That might not be a good idea…”
[Still pretending? Just like Rui Rui, but inside, he must be thrilled.]
[I’m the one losing out here, yet it seems as if they’re the ones who’ve suffered. It’s infuriating.]
Fang Xia laughed even harder to himself, almost losing composure.
“Don’t worry, I’ll talk to her. But from now on, you must treat us both well.”
---
Bai Xing pounded her chest with determination, making her panda plush bounce about. Fang Xia feared she’d flatten it.
“Just wait.”
Afraid Fang Xia might change his mind, Bai Xing hurriedly slipped on some clothes—not even bothering with underwear—and dashed out.
Fang Xia couldn’t hold back anymore, burying his face in the blankets and laughing.
After finishing one cigarette, he lit another, just as the door opened.
He looked up, and his eyes widened.
Liu Rui—he knew her well, saw her every day.
But usually, she wore sharp business attire or combat gear. This was the first time he’d seen Liu Rui like this; even Bai Xing beside her seemed dimmer in comparison.
Her cheeks flushed, caught between coyness and invitation.
She wore a pink, adorable camisole nightdress, impossibly cute yet tinged with allure.
Her legs were bare: long, flawless, needing no adornment—enough to drive countless men mad.
His gaze drifted upward. Normally, Liu Rui dressed conservatively, making it hard to tell, but she was certainly not inferior to Bai Xing.
“Brother Fang…”
Even with all her mental preparation, Liu Rui, at this moment, was no different from any other woman.
Now it was Fang Xia’s turn to take the initiative as a man.
…
Liu Rui was bathing inside, while Fang Xia lay alone at the head of the bed.
The room was thick with a decadent, intoxicating atmosphere.
He pushed open the door.
Four pairs of eyes in the living room turned toward him, the mood awkward for a moment.
Fang Xia cleared his throat, and Liu Rui, still bashful, walked out behind him.
The four pairs of eyes quickly shifted, curiosity fixed on Liu Rui.
Tsk, tsk, tsk—her legs were so weak now.
Liu Rui shot the others a glare, then pulled a first-tier upgrade crystal from her spatial gear and popped it into her mouth.
It worked—quite well, in fact.
“My goodness, what have you gotten yourself into, using upgrade crystals already,” Li Xiaochun muttered under her breath.
But the living room was small, and everyone present was a second-tier fighter; their hearing was sharp, and they all glanced over.
Li Xiaochun stuck out her tongue and quickly turned her head away.
“Where’s Yun Yun?”
With the help of the upgrade crystal, Liu Rui had fully recovered. She now noticed there were only four people in the living room; one little girl was missing.
---
“She’s arranging tonight’s affairs. Look at the time—honestly, you two know how to have fun.”
Of course, it was Li Xiaochun who said this.
With both best friends now wives of the group leader, what was there to fear? From now on, she’d have free rein in the team.
“Shall we eat first?”
Fang Xia glanced at the time—it was already nine o’clock. If they didn’t hurry, today’s zombies would soon reach the battlefield.
“Mm.”
Liu Rui nodded, and Fang Xia began to set the table.
He had no idea what this scene really meant.
As a man, just having put on his pants, of course he’d treat Liu Rui a bit better—and she was the team’s chief steward, so checking in was only natural.
But to the others, it showed that Liu Rui had mastered the art of command.
She’d made Fang Xia submit without effort.
Eating hot pot in the dead of winter was sheer delight, especially with a bowl of fragrant instant rice—a true joy in life.
But the atmosphere was oddly subdued. Aside from Fang Xia and Liu Rui, the others seemed a bit restrained.
Some were embarrassed, some curious, others regretful…
“Rui Rui, we need to find some cooks soon. We'll definitely need them.”
Suddenly remembering something, Fang Xia spoke up.
“Have you noticed? The animals we used to see all the time seem to have vanished.”
Seeing their puzzled looks, Fang Xia explained.
Well…
Everyone had barely survived, so who paid attention to where the stray cats and dogs had gone?
This apocalypse was terrifying—floods, fire rain, and now a city full of zombies.
Surviving was a miracle; it was natural that the animals had died, wasn’t it?
“When the earthquake ends, other creatures besides zombies will appear. If you’re strong enough, you can feast on all kinds of wild game.”
Fang Xia kept it vague, not revealing specifics.
In his previous life, he’d seen a wild boar over two meters tall, weighing five or six hundred kilos.
It had taken Chengang, the Lord of Dawn City, and Guo Yu together to bring it down.
Against such beasts, numbers meant nothing. Without firearms, ordinary fighters couldn’t withstand a single charge.
And post-apocalypse creatures had incredibly tough hides—even zombies couldn’t scratch them. If your attack power was low, you couldn’t even break their defenses.
But the meat was truly delicious. Just thinking about it made Fang Xia’s mouth water, and he hurriedly helped himself to several more bites.
