Chapter Ninety-Five: Deliberations
If you really want to put it simply, it is easy enough. Since the time of the siege is known in advance, all one has to do is be willing to make the sacrifice: spread flammable materials all around Dawn City, abandon those houses for the moment, and when the attackers come, simply send them into a sea of fire.
And afterward, one can set out sharp objects and lay traps. After all, the zombies have no intelligence. If there is enough time to prepare, how hard can it be to deal with them?
Beyond that, heavy objects can be prepared in advance as well. Those lower-tier fighters, even ordinary people, can simply stand in the high buildings and hurl them downward when the zombies arrive.
In any case, the zombies have no intelligence. If these people hide in the tall buildings, so long as victory is ultimately secured, there would naturally be no danger.
I cannot believe they could not think of something so simple, and yet they still come here to test me. I truly do not know how this man became a corps commander.
As Fang Xia looked at An Qingyu, his eyes grew brighter and brighter. This doctoral student did have some ability.
It may also have been that a man caught in the middle cannot see clearly. Fang Xia was in the midst of it all, and had always centered his attention on the fifth-tier zombies, so instead he could not think of these simplest methods.
“If, and I mean if, among this horde of zombies there is one that is especially formidable, even a fifth-tier zombie, how do you think it should be dealt with?”
Ignoring the others’ stares, Fang Xia promptly asked another question.
“I don’t know.”
An Qingyu’s answer was simple, yet forceful.
“You—”
The twin sister, Jing Ru, was the first to speak up, but Fang Xia stopped her at once.
An Qingyu said nothing. Her eyes met his with complete indifference.
High-tier zombies, in a battle on this scale, what use would one or two of them be? At most they could hide among the mass of zombies, conceal themselves, and strike when the time was right.
According to those methods just mentioned, first eliminate a large number of low-tier zombies and reduce their numbers, and that would strip the high-tier zombie of much of its natural cover.
Once its position could be locked down, there was no need to speak of martial virtue. Just arrange for more than a dozen fire users to launch indiscriminate attacks and burn it to death.
Even if it managed to escape, the zombies around it would have been burned nearly to nothing by then. At that point, simply use human numbers, together with a few corps commanders lying in ambush, and it would be easy enough.
He did not know how these people could call themselves corps commanders. A creature with no intelligence attacks a city, and they are frightened to this degree, as though the world were ending.
Fang Xia felt somewhat speechless.
If one followed what she said, was this zombie siege simply a delivery of leveling crystals?
But it could not be taken lightly either. After all, when such a sudden crisis struck, people would surely flee in all directions. If no preparations had been made in advance, and if humanity could not unite, they might truly be wiped out by that group of low-IQ creatures.
Sudden incidents were the key point.
In the previous life, the greatest casualties in the zombie siege came during the first one or two hours. Later, when the surviving humans united and began to counterattack, they likewise survived that crisis.
But now that everyone had prepared, it really should not be feared so much.
Fang Xia nodded thoughtfully.
The little loli beside him had gone green in the face. Why was her teacher so stubborn? On the way here, she had clearly said quite a lot about this matter, and now not a single word would come out.
Just when she thought Fang Xia was about to lose his temper, he instead laughed.
“You can stay on the second floor and share a room with Yun Yun.”
Liu Rui had already moved into Fang Xia’s room, and Yun Yun had always slept alone. That was also one of the reasons he wanted An Qingyu to move in.
This commander is just another old lecher.
Fang Xia clenched his fists. Fine, I’ll endure it.
It was still the same reception hall in Chen Gang’s place, but this time there were five people seated inside.
Besides Chen Gang and Mister Zhuge, there were also Fang Xia, Bai Yi of the Blood Robe Corps, and Lone Wolf.
“Today, I invited the three corps commanders here mainly because there is one matter I want to discuss.”
“This is Mister Zhuge. He proposed that we defend against the zombie assault by using fire.”
As he spoke, Chen Gang explained the full fire-attack plan, much the same as what An Qingyu had envisioned yesterday.
So Dawn City did have an impressive figure after all. No wonder it had been able to be established; it was not something that could be done by fighting ability alone.
“However, doing so may require everyone to give up some of their team territories.”
The territories had originally been purchased from Dawn City, and each of these corps had paid a considerable price for them.
Of course, “considerable” was only relative to the time back then; by now, it was nothing much.
Within their territories, they had each built quite a number of facilities, so asking them to abandon them would certainly make them a little unwilling.
“However, everyone can rest assured. The establishment fees and territory fees you paid back then will all be refunded in full by Dawn City.”
“And after the zombie siege is over, you may still choose a plot of land you like.”
“Dawn City still depends on everyone’s efforts to develop better and truly bring a future to the surviving humans.”
Fang Xia did not state his position. He lifted his teacup and took a sip. Tieguanyin—might as well drink it if it was there.
A few hundred first-tier leveling crystals were not even enough to raise someone from second tier to third. Right now, Fang Xia’s team already had nearly two hundred third-tier members. He did not think much of such a small amount.
Fang Xia said nothing, and the other two remained silent as well.
Even Lone Wolf was not truly stupid; he would not casually make promises at a time like this.
“The reason I set the rule that no thousand-person corps could be formed was also to prevent internal strife.”
“But later, Dawn City’s population kept increasing, and even many survivors from the surrounding cities came here. A thousand-person corps certainly no longer matched your standing.”
“And now we are at the critical stage of the zombie siege. Rather than letting everyone fight separately, it would be better for everyone to recruit together and merge the smaller corps. That would make management much more convenient.”
In truth, these words were rather pointless.
Take Lone Wolf’s corps, for example: its numbers had long since exceeded ten thousand. Then, after the second wave of zombie rain, its ranks sharply dwindled, leaving only a little over five thousand.
Yet the very next day, he merged four corps, and now there were two or three tens of thousands in his corps.
The Blood Robe Corps was no worse. It had only a little over a thousand people at first, but after the second wave of zombie rain, it also carried out a major recruitment drive.
Now its numbers had already surpassed ten thousand, not to mention the countless lone survivors and small corps within their territories seeking protection. If they wanted them, a single word would bring them into the team.
The team with the fewest members was Fang Xia’s.
A thousand young ladies were the standard complement, and the newly joined Gale Corps and Tiger Leopard Corps had also been thousand-person corps before.
After joining Fang Xia, their numbers instead expanded rapidly.
Quite a few of the lone survivors sheltered under Fang Xia’s territory could not join his harem corps, so as a second choice they joined these two corps.
Now both had already surpassed ten thousand members.
Fang Xia also turned a blind eye to it.
Cannon fodder—the more, the better.
